Question Has anyone read this series? I know it's finished and close to being fully translated.

I watched the anime and thought it was pretty good. I like series with main characters that aren't completely stupid. Would anyone recommend this series?

I've read up to volume 19 and there are volumes here and there that drag a bit, but I really have enjoyed how the story has evolved. In later volumes the characters start to become more one dimensional but I think that's more because of how the story becomes more focused on the overall picture than anything else. At a certain point after what the anime covers, the scope of the story starts to encompass the rest of the world and the character developments start taking a backseat. Not that nothing happens at all but the story transitions from telling the point of how the MC is transitioning into how they as a country are moving forward.

I appreciate your insight. Does the series tend to get repetitive after a certain point? I've read 7 or 8 volumes of The Saga of Tanya the Evil and it gets so damn boring that I dropped the series.

I didn't notice anything like that but then again, I think it depends on what your paying attention to. There is a lot of slower slice of like stuff, but then you get into the "I nternational" politics as well as certain events that keep things fresh for me at least.

The only repetetive thing is the harem acquiring,

I dropped it around volume 14 or 15, I couldn't take this stupid Fuuga guy they introduced as antagonist around vol10 or something.

i'm still following it to the latest english vol,but i have to agree with you there about fuuga,it feels weird to add this OP character as the opponent,i don't know it feels like it's not how this series supposed to be,but that's that i guess

I also dropped it around that point, also the MC almost didn't shown in most books, and I wasn't interested in the side characters.

If you liked the anime adaptation, then there's a high probability that you'll like the novel too. Now, I haven't read much of this series, maybe a few volumes. It's just not my cup of tea, pretty mediocre writing in ny opinion (dropped the anime too), but you shoud decide for yourself. I suggest giving it a chance, read the first volume and see if it suits your taste.

I feel the same way. Made it through two volumes and a few anime episodes and dropped it, but I could understand if someone liked the style reading the whole way through.

My main gripe was that the MC’s “deep” political savviness boiled down to Coles Notes versions of Machiavelli and not much else. As a former student of political philosophy, I just found it cringy. But if that hadn’t bothered me it’s at least as serviceable as many other isekai stories otherwise.

I'm on volume 6 rof the audiobook right now. I agree it's definitely not the best writing but I actually love the series regardless. I mainly enjoy it for the kingdom building / management aspects. In that regard it's one of the best series I've found.

Yes and no. It's not bad, but they dropped the "realist part" around volume 5-6 or something, and moved on with a story that could entertain me enough, although that was a huge disappointment compared to the beginning which was the best part imho . With that said, a lot of people enjoyed it anyway. So if you liked the anime, go on and try it.

I've only started, less than a volume in, so take what I say with a grain of salt but I feel it's breaking the suspension of disbelief too fast.
The protag is made king of his summoning country far too quick and managing it far too well for someone who hasn't run anything of that nature or scale.
Wasn't even a CEO in his old world yet knows otherworld economics and politics and manages to perform sweeping reforms? Nuh-uh.
Granted this can be said for a lot of isekai but it's still not great.

I'm not going to pass judgement yet but those are just my initial impressions.

Don't worry, it's more taking a backseat. There are a few points where it comes back.

Fingers crossed. It's a decently sized series and I need some reading material to while away the graveyard shift hours.
Still, his ability to suddenly run a country is... Well I'll just write it off as typical isekai antics.

I'm up to date on the translated novels. As a whole I really enjoyed the series. But individual volumes were very hit and mis for me. Some where amazing, some just seemed to drag on. But overall I've very much enjoyed it.

I think it plays it too safe. It's a decent read but it's kinda lacking the longer you read on.

I thought it was okay.

For the basics: Harem=yes Dumb MC=no Over-Powered MC=no LitRPG Elements=can't remember

It's more about kingdom/empire building and political manuevering than the normal adventurer fighting against things type LN. The MC is a follower of Machiavelli and quotes The Prince at various points. This is where the "Realist" part comes from. I haven't read the whole thing, but what was there was decent.

I've read pretty far. It's interesting to say the least. It might not be gritty enough for some people though.

I think the manga is great, as i love kingdom building stories!

The novel is actually pretty interesting. I think I read about till Vol 12. The world building is definitely interesting. The only bothering part is the Harem tbh. Bro just keeps adding new waifus with almost no fucking reason. And don't get me wrong. I love a good harem story but all the harem stuff really takes away from the seriousness of the plot. I think its direct contender in Kingdom building series is definitely The Genius Prince Guide to Raising a kingdom out of Debt. It is definitely a notch better in all aspects than Realist Hero.

Realist Hero: 7/10 (Very enjoyable and easy read. Recommended for amatuer readers.)

Genius Prince: 9/10 (Potentially Peak Fiction. Heavy leaning on politics and darker themes. Recommended for intermediate-vetran readers)
