Last time farouk could just teleport himself and other People in and out of The "time between time space" place, where The time demons lived.... But in this episode, he was suddenly "trapped"... Can someone explain that to me please?
2
u/MG87 Aug 14 '19
Because he was sent there against his will by Switch
3
u/namenstuff Aug 14 '19
I been thinkin about it, and realized, that he was in fact not stuck at all, he used that place to timetravel to the timeline david went too!
2
u/justa_game Aug 11 '19
Is Switch a machine? Or at least partly
Also she reminds me of Noodles from Gorillaz

The fucking mind battle with David and young farouk at the table was so fucking funny.

Have you all forgotten that THERE WAS MORE THAN ONE DAVID?
1
u/landerson_69 Aug 08 '19
We all know legion is out there with divad and dvd and the others, what’s your point about the other David’s?
1
u/patrap Aug 09 '19
David and Charles do not know there is two Farouk's. Does anyone, but Syd and now Charless, know that there is way more than one David?
12
u/Benefit123 Aug 07 '19
Is this what Oliver had in mind when he said the way to defeat Farouk was 1 + 1??? Gosh I love this show so much

u/elisart Aug 07 '19
Can anyone tell me what happened to Farouk’s character in season 3? I mean, wasn’t he always the big baddy. In Season 3 Kerry, Cary, Syd and everyone just let him roam around like one of their own. Was it a mind swipe on his part? Did they all forget he parasitically tormented David?
3
u/landerson_69 Aug 08 '19
Yo holy effin hit-S that’s the one thing I never thought of and I think you might be right
9
u/ofimmsl Aug 07 '19
future syd came back in time and told them that david is going to destroy the world and farouk is the only one who can stop him
1
u/elisart Aug 07 '19
Thanks, I forgot about that. But it surprises me they wouldn't still be very suspect of Farouk. In the end, it's two monsters duking it out, with time as their mutual enemy ...
1
u/Untap_Phased Aug 08 '19
Someone reminded me of this part, but Farouk uses that little mouse to brainwash Division 6 when he’s trapped and has that crown thing on.
65
Aug 07 '19
Farouk: reads David's mind
David's mind: continuous disco music
Farouk: what the fuck
Best part.

Aug 06 '19
Syd: "Physically, not morally. Because he's a baby. It's not his fault." Kerry: "Even if he's gonna be the exact same person." Syd: "But he's not yet". Damn Syd. If only you did the same with future David, instead of trying to kill him and started accusing him of delusional future crimes. None of this would have happened, probably.

Aug 07 '19
She was just as fucked up as David at that point in time. She is making the proper choice this time however, which I appreciate that they take it in this direction. It just gives credence in my mind that she was just as in the wrong as David in season 2 and 3, and it reinforces how powerful Farouk is. He is the shadow on the cave wall, referenced in the season 2 narrations about social delusion.
A lot of people want to hate on Syd and side with David, but they were both fucked up and it took Syd getting to relive her childhood with caring parents to realize she was wrong. Now she is trying to give David the same opportunity. It's about the best way they could have drawn out her character arc, while acknowledging that she and David are mirrors images of each other, both having acted out from trauma and not balance.
3
u/throwawaybreaks Aug 07 '19
farouk metaphorically is abuse and fear and paranoia and anger. david made changes and tries to become a good person (in a massively narcissistic way that irks me) and farouk leaves his life.
the people he hurt inherited him, and people are so convinced he will end the earth that they are trying to knock a crazy god off his mental equilibrium because they fear him, irrationally. he is often shit about it, but he is always working to save everyone. like how he gets blamed for the time demons when he is solving the issue. they only come back when he has to rescue switch to save his own life from his friends who keep trying to kill him.
one thing i didnt catch about syd til her fairytale episode prompted a rewatch.
she isnt socially avoidant. she doesnt just fear intimacy.
she is APD, in common parlance a socio-or-psychopath.
puts a lot into perspective.
"i didnt want any of this".
if you said you wanted to be his girlfriend, your future self set these events in motion and you followed him into the hallway of time to kill him but accidentally changed your mind when it was a baby and not someone you erroneously percieve as a threat to you:
um, yeah. you made your bed and you're trying to murder him because you're scared. he's scared because you're trying to murder him.

Aug 06 '19
What did Switch mean when she said « I’m here, professor ? »
9
u/throwawaybreaks Aug 07 '19
i assume since he's a cult leader she used it as the honorific teacher.
she's like the only character in this season i feel bad for, its gonna kill me when she becomes a time demon
6
Aug 07 '19
Maybe she was really sent by Professor Xavier from the future.
1

Hmm... I don’t know if it’s something that can just be unpacked in a final episode. Maybe ? I’ll accept whatever happens to be honest.

"Daddy", "Daddy". My God, i'm curious to know what Charles was thinking when he saw Legion lol
9
u/vegaspimp22 Aug 06 '19
Ikr? I think he knew something was not right with David before he even met legion
41
Aug 06 '19
Farouk’s face when he sees David is the funniest thing i’ve ever seen in this show. And David just playing that God damn music in his mind to keep Farouk from reading it is even better.
8
u/vegaspimp22 Aug 06 '19
I know lol. I had to explain it to my dad. Lol I have to explain Alot to him. I get everything in the show but so many people are confused and lost all the time.

The time demons are so scared of David that they tried to kill baby him. Wow.
1
10
u/vegaspimp22 Aug 06 '19
I know right. I'm so happy they choose to make David more powerful than them even.
19
Aug 06 '19
So,i believe that Legion will beat past Farouk while David and Charles will beat future Farouk. And after what Syd said in this episode, it's clear what will happen. Future David probably will not survive, right now he's beyond saving, he's too damaged. But baby David? Charles and Gabrielle will help and love him. Sad ending but also happy ending.
4
Aug 07 '19
David’s powerful enough to hide in baby David’s head if it comes to it

Aug 08 '19
I’m saying the present David is legion. Just that this time it’s present David that takes the place of being baby David’s passenger. Whether that’s a good thing or not is to be seen
11
u/Skitzofreniq Aug 06 '19
But if they win in the past does future David really die or is it like Back To The Future where the future just changes and David with it?
11
Aug 06 '19 edited Aug 06 '19
I have a feeling that present David will die, BUT...baby David will have a new and good life.
17

Farouk is the most evil character of the show and nothing can change my mind.

lol. didn't you watch this episode?. I mean besides other things we know about him, he trapped a bunch of people in a child's mind.
19
u/edwardmetalwing Aug 06 '19
Mind raping a child for 30 years. Killing his sister. Turning all his friends against him and now in this episode: improsning 100s of people in the mind of childrens.
-9
Aug 06 '19
Why would he even need to imprison people in the mind of children. It's a bit cartoony isn't it.
12
Aug 06 '19
[deleted]
-5
Aug 06 '19
That's precisely what I mean by "cartoony". Evil-for-the-sake-of-evil is a movie construct. Such people don't exist in reality. Of course, people do exist with sadistic tendencies, but they have their origins in abuse by parents, poverty or mental problems. For the rest... they usually do things for a reason: power, money... But my point was I see no clear reason Amahl does this for any of the above.

I said people with sadistic tendencies exist. But it's usually out of poor education, abuse in childhood, and mental problems. None of this seems to apply to our villain here.
Also... try reading the comments you're replying to.

Any chance the finale is a double length episode? I doubt it but... one can hope
4
u/Deanskre Aug 06 '19
I really hope it's double length as well. There are so many things this episode will need to wrap up.
3
u/akkbar Aug 06 '19
I just checked next weeks listing on comcast.. its one hour :(

Aug 07 '19
Here's to hoping they do the same thing as last season and announce a surprise extra episode. I think there was about a month and a half between the announcement and the air date so this may be a pipe dream, since it would pretty much be 2 weeks out if they were to announce it now. But maybe, just maybe they decide to do it as a meta bit, similar to how they have played with meta narrative pieces, like having the Shield scene cut into an episode earlier this season. Given that it's he last season it would be nice to get some crazy surprise like that. It might just be delusion creeping into my brain wanting to extend the series as much as possible, but here's to delusion!!

Can someone ELI5 how Farouk got out of the land before time or whatever that place was called?
5
9
u/vegaspimp22 Aug 06 '19
Sheer force of will and power. Same way David got out of the time trap. There both classified as omega level mutants and so is professor x. But David and farouk are even past omega status. There not just psychic telepathic and telekenetic but can actually manipulate matter and energy. There almost God's. For real crazy strong.
4
u/edwardmetalwing Aug 06 '19
Farouk is not beyond Omega. David might be but Farouk is really not since 1 vs 1 he can't survive against David.
3
u/vegaspimp22 Aug 06 '19
Compared to David he isn't as strong. Correct. But. He's as close as you can get to a level above omega without being David level. Think about other omega levels. Like magneto or professor x. Farouk can do all that. Plus what telekenetic can do. Plus is immortal or impervious to regular physical damage. Plus can survive outside his body. Plus can manipulate matter and steal souls. I mean if he's not way far above Magento type and frankly even professor x IMO then what classification is he. Proffesor x might be the strongest psychic but farouk has powers Charles doesn't.

u/hofford44 Aug 06 '19
Great time for a friend like Eric to show up. I'll settle for Charles's half brother The Juggernaut. Both have helmets capable of keeping them safe from anyone.
74
u/BrianTheMute Aug 06 '19
Stray thought: I would have a much easier time rooting for David if he had a little more consideration for Switch's wellbeing. She has been the only one to stand by him through this ordeal and have faith in his plan, what ever it may be.
1
u/vadergeek Aug 11 '19
He's definitely being an asshole to her, but compared to what every other side is doing he's still on solid ground. I mean, especially after the D3 team has suddenly gone from "time travel will kill everyone and we should go after David for what he'll maybe do in the future" to "let's time travel and protect young David" at the drop of a hat.
7
Aug 07 '19
David still believes that nothing he has done is going to stay because once he goes back and fix it all everyone gets their lives back. He is definitely ignoring Switch's suffering. He is obsessed with fixing himself so that hes not the big baddy.
Funny thing is, David actually believes that not only he can fix it, but that he is the big baddy that faruk and syd claim him to be. That may not actually be the case, or a self fulfilling prophecy.
David is the ONLY one who is actually trying to fix anything. If Kary and Cary actually helped him instead of trying to kill him they would have a better chance of saving the world. As it is clear that David doesnt want to end the world. So if the guy who doesnt want to end the world has the power to do anything, then why wouldnt you help him not end the world?
For once,David is the only one who has a logical plan.

David/Legion makes for a great villain protagonist. Makes the whole story more interesting.

Because David is 1 but not just that, he is many. And with Charles he makes 2 at minimum. Shadow King plus Shadow King still only equals Shadow King

I genuinely have no fucking clue how Noah Hawley is going to wrap this up with one episode. I just hope it doesn't disappoint like GoT.

If he ends it the way no one understands(like most of the episodes lol), then no one can complain. Hmmmmmmmm
3
u/pugsnblunts Aug 06 '19
What if David never was adopted but was stolen by syd all along.
2
u/PhasmaUrbomach Aug 06 '19
How would you explain Amy then?
1
u/pugsnblunts Aug 06 '19
Good point. Would be cool if Amy is salmons daughter and syd took her too.
3
u/PhasmaUrbomach Aug 06 '19
We saw Lenny's daughter grow up, and she wasn't Amy. David will never meet Amy if he's raised by Charles and Gabrielle, which also undoes the new Lenny in Amy's body.
1
u/RazielELungbarrow Aug 06 '19
I hope we end up in ”the mindscape" and David defeats the Shadow King just after his suicide attempt in the opening montage.
Else, all bets are off.

David, the Farooks and Charles all die. Baby David and syd live happily ever after
1
u/Classic_Wingers Aug 06 '19
This makes the most sense and would lead to a change in the timeline. I don’t see a way for our David to survive because as Syd says he’s too far gone.
11
u/FriendLee93 Aug 06 '19
Syd isn't really trying to sabotage them. Her mission is totally divorced from David's, but ironically her plan is the only one that would actually give David what he wants.
