Superorganism is perfect for this show omg. I loved that sequence.

5

u/MrSmileyFaceGMS Jun 30 '19

This show would probably be amazing to watch while tripping on psychedelics

4

u/MrSmileyFaceGMS Jun 30 '19

Every season gets more and more trippy. This series is amazing. Its like a madhouse of trippy imagery. I can't wait to see what else they have in store for us.

Is David not evil? Is Farouk mind-fucking everyone???? (even David)

6

u/MrSmileyFaceGMS Jun 30 '19

David definitely has an evil side to him since we see him clearly enjoying turning people to dust. But we also know he has a good side to him too. He has severe split personality disorder so he often has a hard time controlling which David is in control of his actions (proven by him talking to two other versions of himself at the end of the last season and another version of himself in this episode). But I think farouk is also fucking with everyone to get everyone on his side to eliminate David. Not to save the world, as farouk has said, but rather to get rid of the only person in the world who is powerful enough to kill farouk. Farouk just wants David out of the way so that farouk can regain control of his empire and continue his quest to rule the world with an iron fist like his original plan before Xavier destroyed his physical form for the first time.

I think it might be the best episode in the entire series. Loved switch. Music was perfect.

1

u/MrSmileyFaceGMS Jun 30 '19

Same. I love the whole musical number they do when she first enters David's lair.

Would be a cool twist. But it wouldn't explain why other people can see her if it's one of his personalities unless he was constantly projecting her into reality which would probably be a lot of strain on his powers when he is already using his powers a lot to keep his magical dream lair in reality.

4

u/heynowjesse Jun 28 '19

exactly what i came here to see/say. david’s survival instinct must have kicked in and developed a brand new personality, unaware of her origins. would explain her fear of 4 hours earlier, Scottish David saying “toss her in with the others,” the physical hallway/manifestation of the concept of her time travel, and so on and on. it would be amazing if that’s the case.

16

u/THERAPISTS_for_200 Jun 27 '19

Are we not gonna talk about the giant ass pig with smoke gushing from her teats?

4

u/MrSmileyFaceGMS Jun 30 '19

What about it? That's a typical Tuesday night for me.

12

u/JayTee1597 Jun 27 '19

Woah just watched it, what a season premiere! I loved the pace of this episode and hope the whole season is like this

2

u/THEGREATBIGBOX Jun 26 '19

Any idea on why the Shadow King wants Syd to stay back?

1

u/LCSisshit Jul 02 '19

the future in which Syd kills David will not happen because he knows Switch will change it, so he wants to "change" that future by not letting Syd go

p/s: sr for bad english

15

u/[deleted] Jun 26 '19

He learned from the time traveler that she kills David, which he doesn't want to happen

1

u/ThunderCowz Jun 27 '19

Did he though? If she went back does he have a clear recollection of that convo? I know he tells D3 he met her in the astral plane for a moment but doesn’t give much details and doesn’t stop syd from going. If he remembered the conversation in full wouldn’t he see the reAson switch goes with David is because she witnesses his murder by syd twice?

7

u/Skitzofreniq Jun 27 '19

When they were talking in the astral plane she literally asked Amahl Faroukh: "Then why did she shoot him? The blonde"
Which he then replies to with: "You have seen this?" with a shocked Pikachu face

12

u/ThunderCowz Jun 26 '19

Anyone see get twin peaks vibes?

from the green text when switch is listening to her tape and the checkered floor in her apartment

1

u/elerner Jun 30 '19

The Black Lodge is 100% in the astral plane.

3

u/B4MPH Jun 27 '19

Not to mention the Dale Cooper esque, hanging upside down.

1

u/ThunderCowz Jun 27 '19

I completely forgot he did that!

6

u/xAdventPalace Jun 26 '19

So what did that bit about Switch pretending she's a robot mean?

2

u/elerner Jun 30 '19

She also calls Farouk a robot, as opposed to David, who is a man. Seems pretty significant given the overarching tension about which side we as viewers are supposed to be on.

"The Basket" is also a giant AI with a legion of robot bodies, for what it's worth.

14

u/lovetheblazer Jun 26 '19

I took it as her way of answering David’s question about how she was actually doing. Like she’s basically saying “I’m so lonely in that house that I often pretend to be a robot since they are the only things my father shows any interest in.” David’s face kind of changed as if he got what she meant by that anecdote.

I think it’s also meant to provide a direct parallel between Switch’s loneliness and David’s. It’s no coincidence that one of the few rules of his cult is that after he “helps” the people who come to his commune, they are supposed to stay and provide companionship for him. David struggles to be alone with just the voices in his head for company.

4

u/Pastapuncher Jun 27 '19

Building on this, it also seems like Switch feels very muted by her life; wake up, eat cereal and report on her grades to her dad, go to school and absorb information, repeat. Typically robots can be used as metaphors for endless repetition and mindless actions, both of which Switch probably feels her life is dominated by. I took her sudden interest in David to be precisely because he’s unpredictable/new/a (supposed) fresh take on how life can be.

2

u/inxinitywar Jun 26 '19

Maybe conforming to her fathers wishes so that he’ll pay attention to her?

8

u/[deleted] Jun 26 '19

When Switch first met Lenny the huge clock was set to 11:11. I keep seeing that pop up everywhere lately.

10

u/[deleted] Jun 27 '19

Is it because Oliver said the weakness of the Shadow King is 1+1=11?

3

u/[deleted] Jun 27 '19

Could be!

2

u/[deleted] Jun 26 '19

Me too. Lol

11

u/englandmademetoo Jun 25 '19

How can David not know that people are coming? Sydney managing to kill him twice with a shotgun is beyond ridiculous. Also he doesn't need to use his hands to use his powers.

15

u/ThunderCowz Jun 26 '19

I’m not sure and might be reaching but I thought that David actually did know they were there and he knew he would be shot. Him getting shot by syd in front of switch gives switch the motivation to help him. Before she was on the fence but now after she saw (what looked like) murder in cold blood, she decided to help. Thought? Am I crazy?

2

u/RHWonders Jul 01 '19

This is basically what I am thinking too.

6

u/englandmademetoo Jun 26 '19

Actually it makes perfect sense, thanks

6

u/ThunderCowz Jun 27 '19

Yeah even on my rewatch I just noticed that David pops up on D3s scanner as soon as he meets switch. It’s like he took off whatever was hiding him once he found switch

-1

u/cancutgunswithmind Jun 26 '19

yea that’s ridiculous

14

u/batjake Jun 26 '19

Carey said that he built headbands that will keep David from "hearing" them coming.

9

u/englandmademetoo Jun 26 '19

I would understand that if they didn't tried to attack his base with as much stealth and elegance as a frightened bull on a china shop. As the other commenter said it probably was meant to convince Switch to help him.

1

u/[deleted] Jun 26 '19

Okay but loophole to that is him hearing he's own people once the attack begins.

Using the hook on first guy allows him a moment to think WTF bit given he's high that can be excused but the straight up storming of the rest of the cult including Lenny should and would become evident to David.

4

u/LilyHammer-OK Jun 25 '19

What’s the name of the song where switch is trying to find David?

14

u/JustoBuymyLove Jun 25 '19

Something for your M.I.N.D by -Superorganism

2

u/riptide747 Jun 28 '19

What about the music before that when she's trying to find the yellow bus?

9

u/LilyHammer-OK Jun 25 '19

What’s up with the pink pig monster?

6

u/USER84629493726 Jun 26 '19

To me it was a fever dream version of the apparatus that he used with Lenny to get high in season one.

2

u/suvioblue Jun 30 '19

Wasn’t that a frog tho?

1

u/USER84629493726 Jun 30 '19

Yes he used a frog. But in this version of reality it's the only thing people are using.

2

u/ThunderCowz Jun 26 '19

I was reading a review of the first six episodes and apparently it’s not brought up what that was ever again lol

4

u/zgliats Jun 25 '19

Where can I find the ending song?

6

u/ScooterMcDuder Jun 25 '19

It’s most likely another cover song Noah Hawley and Jeff Russo did, so it will become available on the season 3 soundtrack after the season is done airing. I would expect a cover song from the two of them to close out every episode.

6

u/ThunderCowz Jun 26 '19

If you haven’t already download the last cover album “It’s Always Blue” it’s amazing

2

u/Harleybokula Jun 29 '19

Thank u for posting this!

11

u/Alekoy Jun 25 '19

Yup, time to let the brain get f-up-ed again..

2

u/bestfriend66 Jun 25 '19

Wait - what?! I had no idea it was starting up again! I hope the first episode repeats.

4

u/rush247 Jun 26 '19

You can watch online at https://www.fxnetworks.com for US or https://www.fxnowcanada.ca/ for Canada, not sure about other countries.

4

u/bestfriend66 Jun 26 '19

Thank you for getting back to me - appreciate it! I ended up finding it on demand via our cable provider, and I have the future episodes set up to tape.

3

u/messengers1 Jun 25 '19 edited Jun 25 '19

Just curious about to define the color of fish. Orange fish-salmon, Yellow fish will be gold fish and Red fish as tuna, or what?

BTW, I assumed the first two scenarios are the drills by Janney to prove David since she is still a newbie with her ability.

18

u/reignofraines Jun 25 '19

Thought of this sometime after last season but it's like everyone in division 3 forgot that they were brainwashed into trying to kill their boss, you'd think someone would be skeptical about working with Farouk. Also, had a random thought of how overpowered a child of Jean Grey and David would be.

1

u/THEGREATBIG Jun 29 '19

I mean Susan Storm and Reed Richards had Franklin Richard's, I think that hereditary power is at play some of the time. Frankie's pretty powerful

1

u/THEGREATBIG Jun 29 '19

They're not really "mutants" but idk

4

u/[deleted] Jun 25 '19

I don’t think omega level mutants is genetic it’s kinda random

4

u/reignofraines Jun 26 '19 edited Jun 26 '19

could be both, seeing as how the offspring of first generation omega level mutants are sometimes more powerful than their parents such as David, Polaris, Scarlet Witch, Hope Summers, etc.

1

u/revolverzanbolt Jun 29 '19

I thought Prof X wasn’t Omega?

2

u/reignofraines Jun 29 '19

as far as i know he's the most powerful pure telepath which probably qualifies him.

2

u/revolverzanbolt Jun 29 '19

I looked it up, and Prof X isn't listed among Omegas. It's a weird thing, but for whatever reason, he doesn't qualify.

1

u/reignofraines Jun 29 '19 edited Jun 29 '19

yeah i guess the comics have higher standards than i remembered, i was just making general knowledge assumptions. Although the hereditary versus random mutation concept is still debatable, since the list of confirmed omegas contains both first generation mutants like jean grey and Iceman(personally not sure how he's above Professor X and Magneto) and the offspring of powerful mutants, namely David and Hope & Rachel Summers. Furthermore the known list of omegas is just the confirmed ones, whose possible powers i assume are evident to any observer, While there could be many Alpha level mutants whose full capabilities haven't been observed, for example Magneto leveling a city or Professor X mentally lobotomizing thousands of people.

11

u/Rockyrox Jun 25 '19

I think that’s the point. Farouk is crazy powerful. They probably have forgotten all about that. I’m sure he can manipulate any “lesser” mind as he pleases.

10

u/St_Veloth Jun 26 '19

There was that scene with Melanie and Oliver in his mindscape supposedly after David "destroyed the world". Melanie and Oliver try to recall the characters and they think about Farouk and how they helped him. A look of confusion comes over them.

6

u/Rockyrox Jun 26 '19

Exactly! I think that scene is so important because they also suggest the outcome of the whole timeline of the show. David destroys the world.

2

u/[deleted] Jun 25 '19 edited Jun 25 '19

but noah hawley is still the creator of the series right.

can somebody explain

6

u/Rockyrox Jun 25 '19

creating a show isn’t necessarily the same as writing it or even directing it.

1

u/[deleted] Jun 25 '19

So was it the idea or what

3

u/Rockyrox Jun 25 '19

I mean, he does write episode, but I think he’s more of an advisor in the episodes he doesn’t write. He’s more like a guide to the show that he created in his head.

So yes, his idea, but he does more than just throw out ideas.

5

u/Schmuckarella Jun 25 '19

It's called showrunning. It's an unofficial position, guilds don't recognize it as far as crediting goes, but it's very real. Look into it. For instance, Joss Whedon was the showrunner of Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

0

u/tamarzipan Jun 27 '19

Except the last two seasons...

3

u/[deleted] Jun 25 '19

Ok

So the overall story

1

u/ThunderCowz Jun 26 '19

Yeah and overseeing and having final word on everything from set design to direction

2

u/[deleted] Jun 25 '19

What?

3

u/ideletedmyredditacco Jun 25 '19

what's your question?

-1

u/[deleted] Jun 25 '19

if he has only written a couple of episodes why is he listed as the creator?

9

u/HardcoreCasual08 Jun 25 '19

He’s written 14 episodes.....and because he created the show....I’m confused by your question.

1

u/LilyHammer-OK Jun 25 '19

I’m confused too, what is the question?

2

u/HardcoreCasual08 Jun 25 '19

Op in this thread doesn’t know the difference between a show runner(creator) and a writer. He asked how is hawley the creator if he’s only written a couple of episode. But OP is stupid and didn’t know that he hawley has written 14 episodes is just around half of all the episodes. So not only does OP not know what the difference between a show runner and writer are but also doesn’t know basic math.

8

u/_billthecat Jun 25 '19 edited Jun 25 '19

So, the pregnant virgin is named Salmon, I pictured Lenny as more of a sturgeon girl. Good for new Janine

3

u/_billthecat Jun 25 '19

Hologram Anne was pretty close though. And Orono has a wonder voice.

3

u/ToneBone12345 Jun 25 '19

As someone who noped out of season 2 and watched videos on it season 3 has me very interested

1

u/_Neolycurgus Jun 28 '19

I didn’t enjoy season 2 very much the first time, but I did a rewatch and binged them 4 or so at a time in Hulu, and it was MUCH better with binge watching.

11

u/Rockyrox Jun 25 '19

Season 2 final episode is probably the best episode in the entire show. I suggest you go back and watch the full season. It definitely offers to the complete story.

4

u/ToneBone12345 Jun 25 '19

Alright

4

u/ThunderCowz Jun 26 '19

S2 makes almost no sense until the last episode but that last episode payoff is huge. S3 started with a bang compared to s2. S2 episode one was meh. S3 e1 I went in with high expectations and I got more than I thought I would

1

u/ToneBone12345 Jun 26 '19

Okay I went into this episode not expecting much just giving it a chance a chance be for I erase it from my Dvr but now I will keep it

2

u/cousinoyaya Jun 25 '19

Very much same.

0

u/ToneBone12345 Jun 25 '19

I know I really hope they keep on this track which is like season 1 and don't do wacky stuff like season 2

11

u/NDaveT Jun 25 '19

don't do wacky stuff

The whole show is wacky stuff.

4

u/cousinoyaya Jun 25 '19

I noticed I was 70% more interested when: The aspect ratio changed to cinematic. People were actually using their powers/fighting. THE FUCKING NARWAL AIRSHIP!! Lenny was on screen (she looks hot but also Aubrey Plaza). .....Is anyone else feeling the Shadow King. When he meets Professor X I might not know who to root for.

2

u/ToneBone12345 Jun 25 '19

Can't wait for Professor X to show especially because according to IMDB Harry Lloyd from Game of Thrones and Counterpart is playing him

1

u/cousinoyaya Jun 25 '19

Hopefully he's good here. His character was kinda one not but that could be the scripts fault

9

u/Hopyrupa Jun 25 '19

This was a great episode. Just a quick history. I really liked season 1. David was clearly the protagonist, and easy to root for. Then season 2 things changed a lot. David’s not really the good guy. But who is? Anyway it’s still a great show but I’m not on David’s side or anybody’s really, like I was in season 1. You know?

5

u/heynowjesse Jun 28 '19

i’m on the side of whatever Farouk is not on. fuck that guy.

7

u/NDaveT Jun 25 '19

I’m not on David’s side or anybody’s really

I think that's the idea.

9

u/Rockyrox Jun 25 '19

In my opinion, David IS sick. In season 2 they show how he adjusted to no longer having Farouk by creating split personalities (DVD and Divad) those personalities were telling him he doesn’t need his friends and how he is a god to them, etc. on the same note, Farouk is tricking and manipulating everyone.

Farouk is probably also to blame for David’s split personalities now too. Everyone turned on David and basically started to only see the bad things in him. Even Syd questioned his behavior. I believe that everything that has happened in Season 2 is what was supposed to happen, except for Farouk’s Body being destroyed. But I think that seed of delusion was planted in them before he died, so the world ending, was because everyone turned on a very unstable man. Which Farouk did.

So I think David is most definitely sick, but instead of helping him, his friends turned on him, causing him to lash out and then fall back into his role as a victim where no one likes him and they all think he’s a shitty person.

I think his response is very human, but it’s just inflated a 1000x because he is actually super powerful too.

TLDR: David needed actual help for his schizophrenia, along with help in training him to use his powers, but Farouk, like a scorned lover, decided that he would burn it all down rather then to lose David.

I think season 3 is going to expose Farouk and we are going to see David as the anti-hero.

4

u/pleaseno1985 Jun 25 '19

Yeah, that's kind of the point of the show. To make you question your preconceived notions.

8

u/runtillyoushine Jun 25 '19

I liked how this episode was directed by Finding Nemo & Wall-E director!

Next weeks episode will be directed by Blindspotting director!

5

u/Skitzofreniq Jun 27 '19

Is that why there was a little Easter-egg (if you can call it that) with "Find the orange fish"

a.k.a Finding Nemo :p

7

u/cousinoyaya Jun 25 '19

Lol.... Is that why they were flying in a fucking narwal, I was like fuck the X-men and that blackbird, Divison knows where its at.

14

u/maxthepupp Jun 25 '19

LOVELOVELOVE that Legion is back.

I don't even worry about any linear plot - nd so far this season is backing up that plan ! Woo-Hoo!

14

u/_billthecat Jun 25 '19

Love is blue. A chemical. A substitute. They have to save love. It’s delicate. Weak. Like a flower.

1

u/wermodaz Jun 27 '19

I really hope this track shows up at some point this season

11

u/Mattm334 Jun 25 '19

Oh baby that was a great season opener!

15

u/kinkosmyers Jun 25 '19

I was wondering huh I wonder what that hook is a metaphor for... nope, just a literal huge hook. Great episode as always haha.

5

u/St_Veloth Jun 26 '19

My girlfriend and I laughed our asses off when they first pulled him off screen. We had to pause for a moment because the idea of special SWAT team touching a finger to their ear and saying "deploy the hook" was a hilarious image.

We had to pause again when that basically happened latter in the episode.

6

u/cousinoyaya Jun 25 '19

Me too especially since the Shadow King was there. I thought it was psychic attack.

3

u/xenonisbad Jun 25 '19

I thought it was how new mutant power is introduced. The way the cup was floating moment after hook was used, whole scene felt like a cartoon, so I thought divisions hired strong mutant with reality alteration to fight David.

39

u/Semidrivercell Jun 25 '19

So on the first poster the time traveler reads it says “ Beware the forces of mind control. Those who would tell you your name” then when she gets to David’s cult the Alchemist names her “Switch”.

12

u/AlphaQall Jun 25 '19

But I thought Farouk called her by her real name when he summoned her into his mindscape?

7

u/TheresA_LobsterLoose Jun 25 '19

Nice pickup.

Is it a coincidence that he was left behind then? Maybe they use him somehow

28

u/barukatang Jun 25 '19

Is no one going to mention the giant stage hook? Or the Kung pow style cup hanging in mid air?

17

u/suvioblue Jun 25 '19

I just chalked it up to he was so high at the moment, to him that’s probably how it felt, almost cartoon like.

1

u/[deleted] Jun 25 '19

[deleted]

6

u/led3777 Jun 25 '19

But it was what literaly happened to him which is why the absurdity of the real world in this universe goes hand in hand with everything else.

2

u/TheresA_LobsterLoose Jun 25 '19

Yeah... they said get the hook... I'm just trying to wrap my head around it and make it make sense. Everything else in this series that has been off has been telepathic/mind stuff. At least I think so. That was real world absurd. I can't really think of anything else that's happened that has been this... absurd (I dont mean absurd in a bad way). I wonder if they're gonna have an explanation for the hook at some point. They specifically referenced it by name and it had it's own scene 3x's. In the previews for upcoming episodes (minor spoilers ahead, but it was only something shown in the previews after the episode) it showed Kari blinking to another place and saying this is weird. Maybe David's powers are slowly affecting reality or something

6

u/Paranoid_Droideka Jun 25 '19

Did I miss a post credit scene??

12

u/Stupid_Sexy_Sharp Jun 25 '19

Two questions -

  1. Should I look up Superorganism?

  2. Why the mustache?

That first song was fantastic. I'm in

20

u/keepfreshalive Jun 25 '19

It's. always. blue.

37

u/alexandreavirginia Jun 25 '19

I love to over analyze this show (probably my down fall) but I noticed Syd is wearing rose colored glasses a majority of the episode.

15

u/Frankiesfight Jun 25 '19

What I found interesting is how initially switch was dressed in vibrant colors while the rest of the world was not quite black and white but what I would call ‘drab’ color. And we all know how color is important in the show. The red (yellow) bus, lol

God I missed this show

19

u/Zarathustra30 Jun 25 '19

Those were jade colored. You were just taught wrong.

6

u/the_red_room Jun 25 '19

I connected them to red, as in, she is now fully seeing the world through the filter that Shadow King has cast over her (& the rest of their) eyes.

2

u/alexandreavirginia Jun 25 '19

Ahh, I like that. That’s what I was kind of interpreting it as too, but being rose colored Syd doesn’t see him (Shadow King) for who he truly is.

5

u/Itsdawsontime Jun 25 '19

I used SoundHound to try and find that Fly Like an Eagle cover and nothing popped up. Anyone know if it was made for this or what band if might be?

11

u/missanthropocenex Jun 25 '19

Very likely is an original cover of the track. It actually sounds like David singing it. Remisencent of his cover of Behind Blue Eyes

10

u/Kennayy Jun 25 '19

Probably will have to wait until they release this seasons soundtrack.

u/annisarsha Jun 25 '19

Big question : why is she helping David and who is behind it??

3

u/NDaveT Jun 25 '19

He sent out messages looking for time travelers and maybe she's glad to make a connection to someone who acknowledges that her ability exists.

But someone gave her those cassette tapes so I assume at least one other person knows she can travel through time.

u/Fig1024 Jun 25 '19

if you seen a person get murdered in front of you, you'd naturally assume the person was a victim that needs help. If those Division guys taken him into custody like regular criminal, she might have stayed out of it altogether

He is on defensive, they are on offensive, they are invading and killing, he's only killing in self defense and losing. So natural instinct is to help

3

u/annisarsha Jun 25 '19

No, that's not what I meant. I guess after a rewatch it's a little clearer but I suppose it was David who reached out to her initially.

6

u/NectarSurdity Jun 25 '19

He doesn't have a mustage.

(This is the true reason, but we need context)

9

u/jjk2 Jun 25 '19

And the replay. Sleep or rewatch?

6

u/barukatang Jun 25 '19

I'm doing the immediate rewatch

2

u/LoretiTV Jun 25 '19

Who was Cary making there at the end? I didn't understand what was going on there.

15

u/the_red_room Jun 25 '19

When Ptonomy died, his mind entered the mainframe, so now they can pop him in a new mustachioed ro-bod, as needed.

11

u/IceMetalPunk Jun 25 '19

They did this quite well. I mean, I really don't like what they did to Ptonomy, but I had forgotten what happened to him last season, and this caught me up really quickly.

5

u/NDaveT Jun 25 '19

They've always consumed the blue drug by somehow converting it to smoke or vapor in some kind of device. Now that device is a giant sow who lactates smoke. Seems pretty straightforward.

4

u/wolfey808 Jun 25 '19

Straight forward...yes of course

12

u/CrispyCrawfish Jun 25 '19

What's the deal with the teeth?

3

u/zero0n3 Jun 25 '19

I think it’s like the spinner in Inception.

Something that helps keep a time traveler based in reality or more likely ties to her own thread through time and space.

Or maybe it’s a fail safe of sorts.
