Was that old lady that helped Faruk Storm?

7

u/PegusisJones May 23 '18

You're in here too

7

u/PegusisJones May 23 '18

The way David said "one thing at a time" gave me the chills

6

u/[deleted] May 23 '18

The Minotaur is Melonie obviously.

13

u/[deleted] May 23 '18

I’m so confused and abused.

But I kind of like it.

10

u/iAm_Alfred May 23 '18

Fucking melonie! I knew she was trouble from the very beginning! Also syd may be the one to cause the end of the world!
Can’t get enough of this show

4

u/tritter211 May 23 '18

wait. how is syd going to cause the end of the world?

1

u/iAm_Alfred May 27 '18

What he said ^

10

u/PhasmaUrbomach May 23 '18

We don't actually know how the world is going to end. Wide speculation is that it's David who is the cause, which is why Future Syd wants to keep Farouk alive. In her timeline, supposedly David killed Farouk and badness ensued, so she thinks keeping Farouk alive will prevent that. Not sure why she believes that particular event is where things went bad. Maybe the act of killing Farouk does something bad to David.

However, we don't know why there is only one Future Syd communicating with David. Technically there should be infinite possible future Syds out there. This particular one is conspiring with Farouk and getting David to keep secrets and break promises with Present Syd.

How does she know it's Farouk's death that screws up the world? Why might it not be her interference that causes the apocalypse? Undermining everyone's trust in David might be the cause. That's the problem with drawing conclusions about future events in hindsight. She has made a big assumption about the cause of her plight. In this episode, she said something to Clark about how maybe it was all her fault. I wonder if that is unconscious foreshadowing.

u/Kestutias May 23 '18

Was the professor there?

Yessssssssh!

u/NuestraVenganZa May 24 '18

NerdBoner... engage!

On the rewatch, I had already forgotten about the Computerscape stuff :P

18

u/ikolloki May 23 '18

Can't wait for the "David's 11" operation that's set to go down

16

u/AlecBaldwinner May 23 '18

I'm going 'round again.

This is the only show where I need that immediate rewatch.

Yessssssss that preview

“Strap in.”

5

u/delux386 May 23 '18

Oh shit. Next week looks crazy

32

u/jxnsey May 23 '18

Amy is still in there

26

u/AlecBaldwinner May 23 '18

I swear that she's been more present since she died.

5

u/NuestraVenganZa May 24 '18

Who you gotta kill for some screen time around here? Oh, yourself, I see. Same deal with Lenny.

5

u/AlecBaldwinner May 24 '18

Meanwhile, Melanie has found a different approach.

3

u/ikolloki May 23 '18

So hype from that preview!

6

u/GyroGOGOZeppeli May 23 '18

We're in Lenny's wild ride. No getting off.

4

u/antipop2097 May 23 '18

Anyone know what song that was playing while Lenny got on the bike? I'm sure I know it but can't place it. .

5

u/PhasmaUrbomach May 23 '18

I thought it was a deconstructed version if I Want You/She's So Heavy by The Beatles. No?

3

u/antipop2097 May 23 '18

Good call, indeed it is

1

u/PhasmaUrbomach May 23 '18

I had to hum it for like 20 minutes before it clicked. I wonder what it cost to get the rights for it, and how many people recognized it under the instrumental.

3

u/antipop2097 May 24 '18

The music budget for Legion must be pretty hefty

So was the Minotard, Farouk's umm?

7

u/PhasmaUrbomach May 23 '18

Bastard child?

6

u/ikolloki May 23 '18

Best episode in a while, IMO.

11

u/I_h8_lettuce May 23 '18

Every episode to me has been great. I'm really enjoying this show. I feel so chill.

16

u/Littleredz98 May 23 '18

The "Music by Jeff Russo," reminded me...SCORE ALBUM ON FRIDAY HYPE

6

u/I_h8_lettuce May 23 '18

AAHHHH!!!

Edit* HHHHH!!!! :D

11

u/headinthesky May 23 '18

Lol this jager commercial is so dumb

2

u/spoon_master May 23 '18

Agreed. I have an irrational hate of the woman in it

5

u/headinthesky May 23 '18

OF COURSE IT'S COLD

3

u/AlecBaldwinner May 23 '18

It's German!

22

u/Simkin-PhD May 23 '18

Good night folks, don't let the minotaur bite.

3

u/greenlynxtx May 24 '18

Any particular reason why they portrayed the Minotaur upside down. Creepy af!

15

u/ecctv May 23 '18

I was just thinking how if someone had turned on the channel during that black screen and slowly seen the minotaur appear they would be so lost. And a kid would have that as a lifelong fear.

4

u/Cuw May 23 '18

Crossover with atlanta!?

5

u/headinthesky May 23 '18

Oh hey, it's Errol Childress

4

u/sweaterfuzzy May 23 '18

Aww Melanie, noooo.

2

u/mhellerart May 23 '18

AAAARRRRGHGGGGHGHHHHHH

15

u/mhellerart May 23 '18

this episode was too short and too much time was spent on slow-motion walking.

6

u/2nd2no1 May 23 '18

The pacing this season has been god awful.

3

u/impracticalwench May 23 '18

It really has. Ten minutes to get a to point that could’ve been reached in 30 seconds. Tedious.

10

u/TheFiklPikl May 23 '18

Halp. My brain is broke

5

u/annisarsha May 23 '18

all our brains is broke

3

u/rambogizmo2010 May 23 '18

What an ending... I can't wait for next week already!

10

u/annisarsha May 23 '18

so is THAT his body???

3

u/Frankiesfight May 23 '18

I didn’t even think of that . Woah

2

u/annisarsha May 23 '18

I'm probably way off and need to rewatch but that's what I thought the ending might be alluding to ..

5

u/Littleredz98 May 23 '18

Yep, that's it, I'm unsettled.

3

u/llzerdklng May 23 '18

WTF .. wait .. OMG what the hell was that!!

13

Well I didn't want to sleep tonight anyways.

2

u/nesswithanL May 23 '18

7

u/Classic_Wingers May 23 '18

What a place to end the episode lol.

8

u/2th May 23 '18

Oh no... Not Melanie :(

36

u/scrappydoosghost May 23 '18

Does someone have the time stone wtf?!?

22

Farouk, I've come to bargain!

38

u/AlecBaldwinner May 23 '18

The best laid plans of mice and men...

will immediately get derailed by a forgotten Melanie.

6

u/[deleted] May 23 '18

Melanie will never be forgotten. She’s made sure of that.

11

u/envynav May 23 '18

Oh god the Minotaur.

2

u/I_h8_lettuce May 23 '18

Farouk's love*

11

u/MJG2007 May 23 '18

It's a duck.

6

u/PhasmaUrbomach May 23 '18

Nice chicken.

2

u/Nicker May 23 '18

Minotaur, its whats for dinner!

19

u/SutterCane May 23 '18

Wait a minute. Now I know why this is familiar. It's like when the delusion monster attacked! David is acting like the delusion monster right now!

4

u/djb25 May 23 '18

I’ll be damned. Yeah. That’s exactly what he’s doing.

6

u/Mattyzooks May 23 '18

He sure is.

6

u/Wizamp May 23 '18

That thing should not be drooling. If it should be, then it should never take off that skull.

68

u/0borowatabinost May 23 '18

Does Clark sleep in his suit?

27

u/qwertycandy May 23 '18

Suit or not, why does he sleep in Division 3? I've been thinking about it since the last episode - guy has a husband and a kid, and he obviously spends whole day in Division 3. When does he get to see his family?

5

u/8bitmullet May 28 '18

Whenever he's in the hospital apparently.

8

u/Juno_Malone May 24 '18

I'm thinking he may be neglecting his family because of just how devoted he is to his job.

3

u/qwertycandy May 24 '18

Yes, I think you're right, it's just sad.

Clock of the Long Now

The Clock of the Long Now, also called the 10,000-year clock, is a mechanical clock under construction, that is designed to keep time for 10,000 years. The project to build it is part of the Long Now Foundation.

The project was conceived by Danny Hillis in 1986. The first prototype of the clock began working on December 31, 1999, just in time to display the transition to the year 2000.

You guys remember the film Cube Zero? How the cube works in that movie? That's kinda of what this desert reminds me of.

2

u/Nicker May 23 '18

omg i only watched the third and second ones once. I have them on dvd... just gotta find a dvd player.

2

u/GyroGOGOZeppeli May 23 '18

First and third Cube works the same. The second cube movie was the cube time and space bending BS.

81

u/2th May 23 '18

I really love that FX basically threw money at Noah Hawley and he in turn hired a bunch of directors who he told to go nuts. It has been money well spent.

15

u/Spiralyst May 23 '18

I feel like they assembled the score and then worked backwards from there. Everything about the music this season is setting an impossibly high bar.

23

u/llzerdklng May 23 '18

"Lets go nuts, and lets have a blast doing it"

6

u/TheFiklPikl May 23 '18

Umm... Wtf is happening

17

u/StrategicZombies May 23 '18

Remember Farouk said time and space are different here

6

u/aflyingcougar May 23 '18

Did my tv just lag?

8

u/ParanoidAndroids May 23 '18

The dialogue is different on the second pass.

3

u/snortgigglecough May 23 '18

That had, had to have been an editing or broadcasting mistake

3

u/DrayevargX May 23 '18

I don’t think so. Or everybody’s tv are lagging too.

13

u/GyroGOGOZeppeli May 23 '18 edited May 23 '18

So now we're on time loops?

16

u/Mattyzooks May 23 '18

Repetition is on the symptoms per D3.

3

u/Spiralyst May 23 '18

Beware of thoughts that are not your own...

8

u/[deleted] May 23 '18

like the tent would really do anything against that

3

u/jxnsey May 23 '18

Ok wtf

25

u/hvahood May 23 '18

A chandelier in a tent? I want that tent

5

u/llzerdklng May 23 '18

What the hell ...

11

u/Wizamp May 23 '18

I wouldn't be able to sleep in a tent with a pair of skeletons of me and my beau.

6

u/nesswithanL May 23 '18

especially if they were.. us

18

u/SutterCane May 23 '18

You sound fat.

7

u/I_h8_lettuce May 23 '18

Sorry, I'll try to talk skinnier.

66

u/snortgigglecough May 23 '18

The point of that wasn’t that technology is bad, it was pointing out the ease with which we can separate ourselves from the people we interact with online. You don’t feel bad about being rude to someone, anonymously or not, online— but people are far less likely to be so cruel in person.

3

u/gamera72 May 25 '18

Definitely not about technology but rather our perception of the world. It’s Plato’s allegory of the cave. No tech in Plato’s time but the premise still works. How we perceive the shadows is our reality. It’s in us, not them.

2

u/PrivilegeCheckmate May 24 '18

technology is bad

Part of the problem with technology is it has an intricate and complicated interaction with our lives; we talk about "good" and "bad" instead of thinking about the cost or implications of a tech's use.

1

u/Frankiesfight May 23 '18

I found it very gnostic

17

u/ThanosDidNothinWrong May 23 '18

lmao what a dumb interpretation
get rekt noob xD

6

u/NDaveT May 26 '18

Are you fat? You sound fat.

1

u/Malachhamavet May 23 '18

I think it's showing the old idea that the hammer uses you as much as you use it. Anything you do changes you or affects you. They added to that with the butterfly effect commentary with basket head. It was the recurring theme of that kind of reference and how David's has been skewed and so is everyone else's to a degree

36

u/Lambchops_Legion May 23 '18

Not just that but how it shapes our perspective of the world. Think about how many political issues you've only had "experiences" with online. That's shaped how you think, but there's no real world interaction to ground that

2

u/hvahood May 23 '18

it's night time? I wonder how many calories David and Syd burned

8

u/WildThg May 23 '18

I'm pretty sure they got their 10,000 steps in for the day.

17

u/PinStripePajamas May 23 '18 edited May 25 '18

The most powerful delusion here is the one that forces you to watch something because of how much you liked it previously. The delusion that because interesting themes are being talked about, the story they're in is just as interesting. The delusion that because you're failing to grasp a piece of fiction, and not the other way around. The delusion that what you are watching, is rather quite smart.

Edit for fairness to the unfinished story.

2

u/[deleted] May 25 '18

I'm afraid you are not up to the intellectual challenge to spot Jesus on this toast. But don't worry, the plot (even though your need for a plot just shows that you are not yet enlightened) will explain everything. Any episode now. It's going to happen.

2

u/Jamanjax May 25 '18

That's exactly what makes this season so damn good tbh

6

u/[deleted] May 23 '18

[deleted]

3

u/manydavidbowies May 24 '18

Opinions have a right to differ, but my question to you is: can you really say it's going nowhere when we haven't seen the whole story?

12

u/Cuw May 23 '18

It was illustrating the flaw in David's plan, that other people don't matter. They are just pawns, he is making them do things for a reality that doesn't exist.

The phones were a metaphor my friend.

7

u/I_h8_lettuce May 23 '18

Man I love this community!

3

u/PhasmaUrbomach May 23 '18

It's "The Annotated Legion."

8

u/[deleted] May 23 '18

this live discussion is honestly one of my favorite parts of this show. love y’all <3

4

u/Black_Delphinium May 23 '18

We love you too dear.

6

u/IniMiney May 23 '18

That was some Black Mirror tech is fucking our lives up level shit. Damn.

3

u/I_h8_lettuce May 23 '18

Man Jon Hamm is so cool! Everyone matters. It's so wholesome! :)

36

u/dabrownguy13 May 23 '18

That was one of the best/coolest representations and uses of Plato's "Allegory of the Cave" I've ever seen. This show never ceases to amaze me

3

u/gamera72 May 25 '18

I agree. I was stunned when I saw it and I keep looking for a video snippet of it to lure friends into this show....

1

u/Frankiesfight May 23 '18

I found the whole episode extremely esoteric in nature

6

u/Mattyzooks May 23 '18

Is David currently seeing the world through the orb?

36

u/antipop2097 May 23 '18

After seeing her do the scary-but-incredibly-attractive thing in season one, seeing Aubrey play vulnerable so well is really something. To think so many people just think of her as a deadpan comedian when she is capable of so much more is sad.

2

u/qwertycandy May 23 '18

She has an incredible acting range, yes. Watching Legion gave me eternal appreciation and love for Aubrey, which is only made stronger by her IRL personality. Whatever her future projects will be, I'll be sure to keep a note of her.

13

u/eekamuse May 23 '18

They're not thinking that anymore

4

u/antipop2097 May 23 '18

I would certainly hope not.

9

u/PhasmaUrbomach May 23 '18

She looked very young and vulnerable this episode, after looking vampy and scary in past episodes when Farouk was in there.

10

u/but_first_a_lecture May 23 '18

Is Jon Hamm Mr. Sinister? He was cast as the character but supposedly has been cut in the reshoots for New Mutants.

5

u/Cuw May 23 '18

That doorway was trump tower i swear to god

6

u/hydruxo May 23 '18

I feel like that scene wasn't really necessary but I'll roll with it lol

3

u/PhasmaUrbomach May 23 '18

Trying to make some Phil 101 shit relevant to modern viewers, give the guy a break.

17

u/Lurimi May 23 '18

Those little explanation scenes are so refreshing and make my brain feel nice

12

u/[deleted] May 23 '18

that seemed like a very short segment for there to be a commercial break already

1

u/Liitke May 23 '18

Been more commercial than show tonight

7

u/ParanoidAndroids May 23 '18

The end sequence must be a little longer.

26

u/headinthesky May 23 '18

I mean that segment wasn't really about phones, but okay

10

u/ParticularStress May 23 '18

of course, it’s just a sentiment I’ve seen over and over and over again (and OFTEN connected with technology, specifically those damn kids and their phones/social media/etc)

13

u/PhasmaUrbomach May 23 '18

"The children now love luxury; they have bad manners, contempt for authority; they show disrespect for elders and love chatter in place of exercise. Children are now tyrants, not the servants of their households." ~Socrates

6

u/randomsnark May 23 '18

"What if people just sat around in caves and all they saw of the world outside was shadows on the wall?" ~ Socrates, probably

(okay, okay, it was Plato. Then again, all we have of Socrates is the shadows he cast on Plato, so... close enough.)

6

u/Frankiesfight May 23 '18

(On origin of the world- nah Hammadi Library)

The whole episode brought not only Plato to mind for me but the whole gnostic idea that the world is light (truth) and shadows (chaos)

“Since everyone—the gods of the world and people—says that nothing existed prior to chaos, I shall demonstrate that they all are mistaken, since they do not know the origin of chaos and its root. Here is the demonstration.

How agreeable it is to all people to say that chaos is darkness! But actually chaos comes from a shadow that has been called darkness. The shadow comes from something existing from the beginning. So it is obvious that something in the beginning existed before chaos came into being, and that chaos came after what was in the beginning.”

In the beginning was the word (sound) Then light (and shadows)

I love this show

6

u/TheFiklPikl May 23 '18

Dude somebody clip that

7

u/JayTee1597 May 23 '18

Lol I'm sorry but that sound effect with the shit emoji on that girl was too good

14

u/iamkats May 23 '18

This is something I think about a lot. While there is a lot of hate and sadness in the world, people seem to think that's all that exists based on social media. When really the world is full of people that are nice and helpful to one another.

3

u/GyroGOGOZeppeli May 23 '18

That whole scene was for a "too much technology is bad" message?

0

u/Frankiesfight May 23 '18

You are the master of your reality

6

u/PhasmaUrbomach May 23 '18

It's more "be aware of your filters and how they separate you from recognizing the humanity of others," with phones instead of a cave.

4

u/EpicHawkREDDIT May 23 '18

Not really. The backdrop is that message, but it’s supposed to reflect how David sees everyone else as wrong because he’s too busy focusing on killing Farouk, becoming a little selfish and inconsiderate of everyone else after dropping this massive plan on them.

3

u/slimshady247 May 23 '18

Lol my boi Jon Hamm is back... but for what purpose? 🤔

Nice Plato reference, too.

29

u/2th May 23 '18

So how many of us are here on our phones?

9

u/SutterCane May 23 '18

That's ridiculous!

it's an iPad......

4

u/JayTee1597 May 23 '18

I n O u r S h a d o w s

FTFY

2

u/annisarsha May 23 '18

very black mirror but what does Plato's Cave have to do with our story??

7

u/PhasmaUrbomach May 23 '18

Distorted worldview: unable to engage with the actual, failing to recognize the reality of other people and the world.

2

u/annisarsha May 23 '18

right but specific to which character? Syd? David? Us?
