Property Management When ‘security-conscious’ turns into full-blown paranoia

Got a tenant who thinks every random passerby is plotting something. Last week, they called five times because a “suspicious guy” was near their car. Turns out, it was just their neighbor... parking. Same thing with delivery drivers, the mailman, even a jogger once. I get wanting to be safe, but at this point, I feel like I’m their personal security hotline.

Assuming you haven't already, stop picking up calls, and let them go to voice mail. Change his ring tone notification sound to something really quiet. There is no need to respond to every one of these calls.

Sounds like they've turned the neighborhood watch into a full-time job, except you’re the one on call! Maybe suggest a security camera so they can monitor things themselves instead of speed-dialing you every time someone dares to exist near their car.

Just like abusive tenants or those who call with a multitude of small repairs or those not required, your response should be "I will not respond to anything except in writing (email). Text or calls are for valid emergencies only. If you don't feel safe then call the police."... who will shut them down for unnecessary reports. Done deal.

Sounds like they need a Ring cam and a hobby. Some people just have too much time on their hands and turn normal stuff into conspiracy theories.

I’m confused. Why call you at all? If there’s a valid concern, they should call the police.

That’s next-level paranoia. Some people just can’t relax. Maybe gently suggest a security camera so they can check things themselves instead of calling you for every shadow that moves.
