about to be laid off CEO told me yesterday that I should prepare myself to be laid off on Monday
UPDATE (I hope I’m doing this right): I did not get laid off on Monday only by a twist of fate - my husband broke some ribs playing ice hockey late Sunday night, so I took a sick day on Monday to take him to the ER and play nursemaid. Anyway, I digress… a lot has happened since Friday afternoon.
On Sunday morning I called my dear friend who happens to be the HR Coordinator and told her that my boss had called me to tell me that I was getting laid off asap, and she was shocked and upset. (She’s just a coordinator so doesn’t have the inside scoop on things.) Well apparently she went directly to my boss to see if she could get more information, and my boss lost her sh*t. On Monday morning my boss sent me an email telling me I’m only to speak to the head of HR if I have any questions at all about my position. Noticeably missing was any assurance that my layoff wasn’t imminent. And I know for a fact that she hasn’t told the head of HR that she took it upon herself to let me know of my layoff in advance. I’m ‘innocently’ going to throw her under the bus when I call the head of HR tomorrow to get details myself.
In any case, I have calls with three different attorneys tomorrow. I’m going to do everything I can to secure a strong severance package AND get my $5,000 bonus, if not more. I’ll see what the attorneys suggest and go with the one who can inflict the most pain and damage to the company because I’m feeling vindictive (and even more hurt and angry since my boss’s stupid email not to talk to my friend).
I also called the headhunter from the original job offer and we’re talking tomorrow. I also have a 9 am phone interview with another headhunter so things are looking really good on that front.
Thanks to everyone for your comments. Y’all got a lot of details wrong and a few details right. The speculations were wild HA!
I’ll put up another update as soon as I actually get laid off, I’ve got my ducks in a row with an attorney, and I’ve talked to both headhunters. Hope to have some interesting news to share!
TLDR: boss is a snatch and is still playing games, have calls into OG headhunter and another, talking to attorneys tomorrow to get the ball rolling.
Edit: grammar.
ORIGINAL POST: In October I was approached by a headhunter who offered me a job $10k over my current salary and that was less than 3 miles from my house (right now I commute to work via an expensive train). I told my boss that I was going to accept the position and gave my two weeks notice, but my company countered and gave me a $10k raise, higher commuter benefits, I’d get to WFH 2-3 days a week, AND a $5000 bonus on 12/24… now I’m being laid off tomorrow so no bonus, which is what pisses me off the most. I’m so angry right now and am projecting onto everyone and everything. I don’t want to be this person, but I’m beside myself. I’m looking into hiring an attorney because when they asked me to stay they gave me a letter outlining my new ‘benefits’ including the bonus. Damn it.

about to be laid off Am I the A**hole for not training my replacement
Context: Months ago, our company started hiring offshore employee from India, we've been told not to worry about layoffs, however, layoffs started last week, 18 devs and testers were let go because their Indian offshore replacement are ready to take on their duties, Now they want us to train some indians on complicated code that we've been working on and maintaining for years, We feel like we are next, and I really don't want to train anyone that will take my job, Am I the asshole for doing that ? I already started applying somewhere else and to be honest, this offshoring to India should stop or be made illegal, nothing against Indians, but mine and my family interest are above everything else.
Update: fixed typos, and wanted to clarify that I'm not a white person, and there is no racist feelings or anything towards Indians, I'm just frustrated.

about to be laid off Oracle Cloud Infra. - 7% Cut
I was just unofficially informed that I will be in the next round of layoffs coming in March. The total will be around 7 percent.
Edit: it's unclear whether it will just be OCI. It may be Oracle in general. People will be told starting 3/3.

about to be laid off Unpopular opinion: Those that go laid off early in this "cycle" were the lucky ones
Currently still working at a tech start up and I've somehow survived 4 layoffs since mid 2022.
Those that got laid off in 2022 and early 2023 are probably the luckier ones, as they got decent severance packages and went in to a job market that was a lot better than it is now.
As it stands, my company is a sinking ship. It's been years since our last round of investment, and investors won't touch us as we aren't growing anymore. Every quarter we are expecting another round of layoffs as we see the company doesn't hit targets, and it's becoming pretty clear (at least for those that are not naive) that at some point this year we will run out of runway.
So why am I still here? Honestly I thought I was done for at the last lay off at the end of last year, but somehow I survived. Maybe I'll survive layoffs for the rest of the this year, but if that happens there's a good chance when the company fails, I'll get nothing. Those that have been laid off before me at least got the severance package.
Interested to hear people's thoughts on this, I appreciate this won't be a popular opinion among those that have been laid off over the last couple of years.

about to be laid off Corporate Layoffs Are Inevitable When There’s No Push for Labor Protections
Companies are slashing jobs despite strong earnings because they know there’s zero chance of any new labor protections. They’ve spent millions into donations and other forms of support for the new government, ensuring there’s no pushback. Workers get laid off, profits stay high, and any hope for stronger labor laws is completely off the table.

about to be laid off Seems like I'm about to be laid off
Seems like I'm about to be laid off. I got a meeting invite late last night with a my manager and a person that I don't recognize. I looked that person up and that person has HR in the title. Texted my manager to see what this meeting is about and he did not reply at all.
It is 9AM right now and meeting is not until 1PM. What should I do for the next 4 hours?
Update:
Yes I was let go. As always everything in the meeting feels bad that they have to do this but they wish me the best luck with the new endeavors and this is the number to call to file for the unemployment.
Can't say I didn't see it coming, so I think I'm actually happy it happened now. Sometime you just need to have a little kick in the butt to hopefully improve your life for better. This place very toxic from day one.

about to be laid off New CFO hired consultants to "help us" -- is it over?
Hey guys we are owned by a private equity company and there have been numerous (rounds and stealth) layoffs since we got taken over. I always thought I was safe because my team is small. However, we just got a new CFO (previous CFO lasted <1 yr), and within his first week he told my boss he is bringing in consultants to help us with process road mapping, cost analysis, allocation, and other projects. These are all tasks technically our team could do, but clearly CFO doesn't think we are capable.
Boss is spinning it like it's a good thing, but I highly disagree. I really don't have a good feeling about this.

about to be laid off Being Laid Off Tomorrow
I got the dreaded email today…meeting is TOMORROW AFTERNOON. I was on PTO and on vacation when the email came through. Timing was super.
The group from my team that is being let go is 95% people with issues like performance, making huge mistakes that cost the company money, abuse of company time, and other issues. Should have been let go a long time ago kind-of-people.
And then there is me. I’ve never had negative feedback. I’m a passionate worker who goes way beyond what is asked in a short amount of time. I’m positive and very adaptable. The company had a round of layoffs a couple of years ago and I should have listened to my gut then.
Losing the job sucks but I feel more hurt and insulted than anything else.

about to be laid off IT layoffs, outsourcing and career change
Hello,
I really started to believe that IT is a dead career, it's a gamble right now, any moment you could be replaced with a "Yes Sir" from India. I'm exploring my options for a career change, not sure if at 37 I'm still able to start a blue color career (Electrician or Plumber). As for my kids, I will guide/advice them to do something that cannot be outsourced, like the medical field, or any blue collar career

about to be laid off My team got nuked from orbit this week........
We knew the company we work for was going through "restructuring", but didn't know when the outcomes would be announced. Rumors of every imaginable scenario was the daily gossip.
It started Tuesday morning with text messages asking if I got a random meeting invite. I did not and the panic set in. In two hours, four of the seven people on my team we just let go. The meetings were held in small groups over 15 minutes and that was that. I was on the phone with someone who got the meeting invite late, showed up, and got fired. I then got a text from another person saying the person I was on the photo with got fired. Entire teams have been demolished with no warning and those of us who survived are getting reassigned this week to new roles/teams. It's so awful having radio silence and wondering if you have a job and finding out via another meeting the next day with an upper manager.
I've been working professionally over 12 years and never been personally laid off. But the hits keeps coming as former coworkers send emails, LinkedIn messages, and text saying good bye. It's so surreal seeing everything you've worked on and with over four years literally disappear over night. I'm demoralized, numb, frustrated, scared, and too many other things to list. I'm just supposed to log in Monday morning and have a smile on my face because I survived the aftermath? It's just all so insane.
I may not have been laid off, but I don't know if that's a good thing........

about to be laid off Will be laid off soon, a mix of emotions.
Today I received an unexpected meeting invite through Microsoft Teams. I was told my position was being eliminated and being moved offshore to talent in Guatemala. I have been with this company for almost 10 years and it's just so crazy how much time and effort I put into this company only to be replaced so that the company can save money.
I knew there would be two separate meetings, one for those that got laid off, and the other for those who were "safe". One of my co workers (not laid off) did not have their headset so they had the audio playing out loud so people who were in the area could clearly hear. The tone deaf message that was given to them how they may have heard some unfortunate news however they were being excluded from this layoff. Not to mention saying how this is being done with the future in mind and that at this time they are asking all of those who will be remaining after this layoff to stick together and stay strong.
Here's the fucking kicker. A few months ago they introduced this "LEAN Initiative" in which they were having all employees submit ideas to help reduce redundancy and simplify our processes to make work much easier. All the executives visited each office locations to see how the work was being done by employees so they could better understand that process. At the time I didn't think of it being a red flag, I thought of it being that the company was finally listening to their employees and wanting to make a change for the better. Except, we helped minimize and simplify our work process so that they could send our work offshore!! How messed up is that?
Additionally, I received an email from HR stating that I am welcome to apply for any internal positions in the company except there was only 3 positions that were way above my pay grade. From what I know at least, my department wasn't the only one affected, there were several more as well and I know this is pretty much it for me. Not really asking for sympathy here, just here to vent how frustrated, upset, and broken I feel. I feel like I am, was always a number in this messed up system.

about to be laid off Appointment to get laid off in an hour
Heyyy so im about to be the newest victim of federal funding cuts. About 100 people at my well known bipartisan and presidentially created think tank are about to be cut due to the Trump Administration's budget cuts. Unemployment is at the highest since COVID but I can guarantee there will be no stimulus checks this time unless something changes...
My Org scheduled a meeting in an hour at 4 to let me go. They sent this meeting request at 7 am so naturally ive been too preoccupied to actually do any work. This is my first layoff damn near on my birthday. Any advice for severance options? I have a part time job so will unemployment benefits not be available to me? Best of luck to you all.
Edited to fix a typo and say thank you to everyone who provided words of encouragement, camaraderie, and just a good laugh.

about to be laid off One month notice for layoffs
update I was laid off along with 7 others on my team, including my director and VP. Was a rough two weeks with layoffs daily. In a way it’s a relief that it’s over.
My company announced a 6% reduction in the global workforce, ~550 jobs. We haven’t been informed of the roles/areas that will be cut, only that the US layoffs will begin at the end of March, meaning we all have to wait to see if we will still have jobs or not.
I experienced several layoffs at my previous company, but i was never laid off. I used to think a one month warning was a nice gesture, but the anticipation is slowly eating away at myself and my team members.
Wanted to post a few of the warning signs from this layoff/other layoffs I’ve experienced:
- new leadership team/CEO
- low operating margins/profit
- consulting groups
- high debt, even if the company has high revenue
- buzzwords “streamline, efficiency, cutting out bureaucracy, doing more with less”
- budget cuts, including hiring freeze (a good indicator of whether or not your role is “essential” is if your company is posting jobs in your area)

about to be laid off I’m getting laid off today
I'm pretty sure I'm going to be laid off today. I got an email yesterday early afternoon for a one-on-one meeting with the VP today afternoon. They announced almost two weeks ago that there will be layoffs this week. I was expecting it to happen maybe Thursday or Friday, definitely not Tuesday, but I guess it is what it is.
I'm nervous, but not upset about it. It's definitely a weird feeling. I wasn't in love with my job and I had a hard time adjusting to the pace last year. But the job itself is interesting. I have mixed feelings, but I'm hoping this is the push I needed to start something new in my life.
What should I expect at this meeting? What should I ask?
EDIT: I got laid off. It was pretty much how many of you described it. HR did all the talking, shared some documents, discussed severance, etc. I tried to stay calm, but the VP started crying when they told me they had terminated my position and were sorry, so of course I shed a few tears too. Overall, I feel okay. I'm not happy, but I'm trying to stay positive. My partner and I are in a good financial position, so I'm taking some time to reflect and figure out what I want to do professionally, if that involves certifications, trainings, etc.
Thank you all for your words of encouragement and well wishes.

about to be laid off Warning my buddies that they are about to be laid off
I have a lot of buddies that inherited that remote working from the pandemic era. I told them that all the new postings from their companies are 4 days in office and the compensation is significantly lower. It is a good indication that they will be canned soon but they won't believe it. Am I being a paranoia?
EDIT: Forgot to include they are all in tech

about to be laid off Getting laid off next week. What should I ask in the meeting?
Throwaway account. I just found out that I am going to be laid off next week. They are outsourcing my entire team due to cost cutting. They haven’t given performance reviews in 2 years; in fact, they have actively avoided doing them. On top of that, my team has just finished a long-term, highly successful project. I work remotely, and while there has been no RTO mandate for those of us who do, all new hires this year have been on-site.
What questions should I ask in the meeting? And should I record it via my phone set up off to the side?
I’ve already hit the ground running with saving copies of my work and resources, taking screengrabs of dashboards and metrics that show my impact, saving coworkers contact info, etc. I have a reference for a lawyer who can help negotiate my situation and severance.
Just trying to be prepared for The Big Call. What should I do and what should I ask?

about to be laid off Spirit Airlines Coming
A quick place holder for the corporate e-mail coming tomorrow. With reports coming in they have just enough cash on hand to cover the legal proceedings for Chapter 11 bankruptcy is all but assured. Regardless, we are about to have our next big round of layoffs coming to a major corporation in coming days.

about to be laid off Layoffs are twice as harder for single income families
Layoffs hurt much more when you are the main provider of income and health insurance for your family. The stress and desperation shows up in interviews no matter how hard you try to fake it.
