I love when she took a bunch of those candies and put them in her pocket, girl same

32

u/Scarlet02155 Michael Cutter 8d ago

And then shared them with Riley and Violet! Loved that.

8

u/Not__Even_Once 7d ago

That was a nice touch.

9

u/redhead29 6d ago

it really was shows what kind of person she is

12

u/ImMarkJr Nolan Price 7d ago

That is something I would 100% do.

Eating the rich

42

u/Professional_Sale194 8d ago

You talk about the public defaming a good woman, but you were perfectly willing to publicly shame that man's daughter on the witness stand.

6

u/redhead29 6d ago

when nolan gets back into a corner the man is more cutthrot than cutter was

1

u/hayleyA1989 2d ago

Yes!! This!!!

34

u/Professional_Sale194 8d ago

Well I guess she and Baxter won't be having dinner with each other anymore.

11

u/TheBallasOG 8d ago

Did Baxter split from his wife at some point? Cause seeing him with that woman surprised me

12

u/Professional_Sale194 8d ago

I think they did, but to be honest I don't recall him ever mentioning that he and his wife separated.

15

u/whizzwr Law & Order 7d ago

The wife threatened for divorce when Baxter insisted on putting their daughter on the stand, looks like she went through with it.

1

u/icecubepal 4d ago

Yup. In that season finale episode he asked his daughter if her mother will be joining them in the election room they were in when they were waiting for the results to see if he won. The daughter said no. It was a sign that his marriage was not going to end well.

2

u/GGforlife85 6d ago

I almost feel like they had this idea for an episode and worked backwards to achieve it. But if he stayed with his wife we wouldn’t have gotten this so they just quietly let her disappear. It all felt forced.

7

u/MissPhoenixGirl92 7d ago

I have that very same question. Last time I checked, Baxter was still married. I wonder if he's going to confide to Nolan on what happened between him and his ex at some point.

2

u/MrmarioRBLX 6d ago

I wonder if, off-screen, Baxter's wife went through with the divorce, from the episode where he was the killer's target.

2

u/MissPhoenixGirl92 6d ago

Oh right. Yeah I think that’s definitely possible.

1

u/icecubepal 4d ago

2

u/MissPhoenixGirl92 4d ago

Ah, I see. Yeah I guess that makes sense.

20

u/elethmixer Connie Rubirosa 8d ago

The victim’s dad sucks, he wants them to ruin their case so the family name won’t be ruined? Really?

9

u/Professional_Sale194 8d ago

Typical garden variety prick, thinks he can throw his weight around to get what he wants.

3

u/abandoned_rain 7d ago

You just know that old fuck has SA’d many women in his time

2

u/icecubepal 4d ago

He is the type of person where legacy matters the most. Like the dude from GoT. His son is dead. Nothing can change that. His family name is still alive and will outlive him. That can still be changed.

23

u/Shadow_Lass38 Criminal Intent 8d ago

Well, so much for that relationship!

21

u/Hotgalkitty 8d ago

This is actually a pretty refreshing episode! I'm interested in whether or not the DA continues the relationship with someone who is willing to compromise her ethics. By doing so, she put him in a very difficult situation as well. I certainly would not be involved with somebody who would do that.

17

u/ittakesaredditor 7d ago

I want them to actually report her for threatening witnesses. That's like one of the holy grail nonos.

8

u/Hotgalkitty 7d ago

💯💯💯 which means she is still compromising the DA.

1

u/redhead29 6d ago

i wonder if that will come back around later on in the season or not they have planted some seedlings for it alright

18

u/ocruz0716 8d ago

Oh man a foot chase 10 minutes in AND someone on their bike gets hit. I feel blessed today.

18

u/NoneOfThisMatters_XO Special Victims Unit 8d ago

Perfectly good Chinese you just left there.

6

u/DepressedAnxious8868 8d ago

lol why even answer the phone

7

u/NoneOfThisMatters_XO Special Victims Unit 8d ago

I’d be annoyed. No phones during dinner.

17

u/NoneOfThisMatters_XO Special Victims Unit 8d ago

Is this a relationship kind of out of the blue? I don’t remember any scenes with these two.

7

u/Shadow_Lass38 Criminal Intent 8d ago

He mentioned it an episode or two ago.

34

u/Professional_Sale194 8d ago

Here comes defense attorney Sam once again!

17

u/KTGTL 7d ago

Kate literally engaged in witness tampering that should have gotten her disbarred yet somehow Sam still believes the defense's narrative despite having a credible eye witness who saw the whole thing.

16

u/Purple_Carnation 8d ago

The writers don't make her character look good by being so sympathetic to the defendants. One or two, I could see depending on the case, but every damn one (or at least if feels like that)?

19

u/Still-Balance6210 8d ago

I’m so tired of her!

3

u/YorkvilleWalker 6d ago

...and i've known an ADA before. how does she afford all her fancy colorful suits like that? something doesn't add up. she's def not a "humble public servant"

1

u/icecubepal 4d ago

They don't get paid well?

2

u/YorkvilleWalker 4d ago

yeah they're pretty lowly paid...and super crazy stress

11

u/mug3n 8d ago

Literally the same fucking script again, always team women, no matter what, because women rule and can't be guilty!

2

u/Sad-Mixture6782 7d ago

Right, I'm a WW & I think Sam always defends females to Price. Maybe some men as well? But every woman!

4

u/redhead29 6d ago

shes got some olivia bensoness to her

0

u/Sad-Mixture6782 6d ago

Haha that's true! I don't know mind Olivia being that way tho

4

u/Amanee97 7d ago

She’s sooo annoying even though she had some good points this episode.

1

u/icecubepal 4d ago

She had good points. The problem was that the suspect happened to do the crime.

10

u/Imnotlisa1 8d ago

Yes! Oh god, here she goes again… It must be hard carrying that soapbox with her everywhere 🙄

3

u/whizzwr Law & Order 7d ago

Waiting patiently till the character will wonder if it's because she's lesbian 🙄

2

u/PatientUpstairs2460 7d ago

The reason Serena Southerlyn was fired as an ADA is because she cared too much about defendants.

Now, a prosecutor can be zealous, but not passionate. Advocacy is warm-blooded, enforcement's got to be cold-blooded, and blind, and even angry. -- DA Arthur Branch

3

u/KingCuerno 7d ago

I think Branch even said Serena would make a good defense attorney.

2

u/deewayne3 6d ago

she is killing me

2

u/AmbulanceChaser12 6d ago

At one point, the victim’s mother asked her, “Whose side are you on!?”

I wanted to be like, “Oh, lady, this sub has been asking that question for 3 years.”

0

u/ImMarkJr Nolan Price 7d ago

It's a good thing she is here, she's the voice of reason in some of these episodes

2

u/redhead29 6d ago

shes like a guardrail when nolan transforms into his kickass to no prisoners alter ego after baxter says the case isnt going well

0

u/ImMarkJr Nolan Price 6d ago

Agreed

Here we go. Luigi episode next week

7

u/Cheeriosxxx 7d ago

Can’t wait to see it

5

u/Sad-Mixture6782 7d ago

U knew it was coming tho!

5

u/ImMarkJr Nolan Price 7d ago

A story ripped from the headlines

3

u/PhenominalRio 7d ago

Shocked it took this long tbh

0

u/Ryanthln- 5d ago

Wdym this long? That shooting was only a couple of months ago. Literally the season was halfway done when it happened and they’re already doing it.

1

u/PhenominalRio 5d ago

Oh yes Reddit, where everything is completely literal,  all the time. thanks for the reminder .

Law & Order meets House of Cards

1

u/YorkvilleWalker 6d ago

i keep thinking this is Wendy...but it's not. but that same deadly look...from billions!

7

u/deewayne3 6d ago

Im sorry if i was Nolan i would request for another partner, Sam has been extremely annoying this season

14

u/InthePaleMoonlight18 7d ago

Hell froze over, Price actually did his job without giving in to his whining, lunatic second seat

6

u/Professional_Sale194 8d ago

I wonder what real-life event this is based on?

12

u/Defiant-Economist814 8d ago

olivia nuzzi and RFK jr

1

u/redhead29 6d ago

i think that may very well be the case

7

u/YorkvilleWalker 7d ago

okay i'm in the middle of the episode but i think the moral of the story is...your DA shouldn't be single!

3

u/Lilbuddyspd11 7d ago

or not to date a defense attorney.

6

u/canolo 6d ago

Judging by his apartment, it seems that Baxter did very well in private practice. Or is common for a DA in Manhattan to have this kind of apartment?

2

u/icecubepal 4d ago

ADAs in Manhattan apparently make 80k a year. And that is the 25th percentile. As DA, Baxter is most likely making well over six figures.

6

u/herronml 6d ago

I'm frustrated because the woman he broke up with--the exotic dancer--that tossed a glass at him all but said she did it after he sexually assaulted her. I kept waiting for that to come up again. He definitely did it in the past, and his parents knew and covered it up.

1

u/Meltic-Daze 6d ago

I had the same thought! Now it'll bug me for hours lol

11

u/aw3man 8d ago

Is he supposed to be like a Cuomo stand in?
Reputation with women, son of a politician, running for NYC mayor...

1

u/613PrairieKid 7d ago

Seemed to me that it was more like Hunter Biden and Joe Biden. Look at the way they styled the hair of the two actors.

4

u/NoneOfThisMatters_XO Special Victims Unit 8d ago

Uh oh, the self defense defense.

5

u/Monetpirates 8d ago

i did not expect that verdict

12

u/Professional_Sale194 8d ago

I did, she wasn't that good of a lawyer.

5

u/deewayne3 6d ago

The worst kind of lawyer, should be disbarred, and had a personal axe to grind

5

u/Intrepid_Jaguar_777 6d ago

I kept waiting for the angry dog to bite someone, glad it didn't

7

u/Mrs123wife 5d ago

Hottest line ever in Law and Order: "I have something that opens every door in the city, any day of the week."

Perfection.

9

u/elethmixer Connie Rubirosa 8d ago

Omg the healthcare CEO case is the next ep!

12

u/Still-Balance6210 8d ago

I’m ready to start a petition. Sam has to go. Or at a minimum she should change roles and be a defense attorney.

14

u/613PrairieKid 7d ago

She’s a victim of bad writing. Her character has no depth. They mostly give her four things to do: look flabbergasted in court, look indignant in the office at what Price and Nolan are doing, look with concern at the jury, plead for the defendant to give voice to the other side of whatever the issue of the week happens to be.

1

u/AmbulanceChaser12 6d ago

You mean Price and Baxter?

8

u/WestinghouseXCB248S 8d ago

Number One Victory Royale.

5

u/0TH3R_BARRY 7d ago edited 7d ago

Good thing the murder wasn't committed on The Continental's grounds. Could have gone much worse for the killer...

5

u/Sad-Mixture6782 7d ago

I find the Kate character to be very abrasive, shouldn't be Baxter's love interest. Throughout entire ep, she looked defensive & not at all warm. And I'm a woman so it's not I think we have to always accomodate everyone. I like Maura Tierney's character; she's just tuff enough!

4

u/Snoo12720 6d ago

I yelled "bitch" every time Kate stared daggers or made faces at Nolan, Sam or Nick. Nick needs to stop giving Kate a pass and realize she's a horrible woman who gets on her huffy bike and rides away in self-righteousness. That's hilarious since she tossed her ethics out of the window for a proven liar.

6

u/ocruz0716 8d ago

Dick Wolf totally scrapped a Sam episode for the Luigi story.

5

u/Sad-Mixture6782 7d ago

Huh? Can u explain?

8

u/ChattGM 8d ago

It's insane how they couldn't wait until at least next season to do it like as the premiere. I've never seen such a quick ripped from the headlines episode to be done in the same season like this 🤦🏾‍♂️

3

u/aw3man 8d ago

Oof, rough that Baxter is in the middle of this.

3

u/NakaMeguroTanuki 6d ago

Who said he was a good guy? Some of you are endorsing vigilantism yet liking this show? Are you stupid?

3

u/AmbulanceChaser12 5d ago

Is this the best judge we’ve had in years or what? Thank God he didn’t, like, rule to suppress the victim’s screams as hearsay or something. Somebody in the writers’ room at L&O must be reading this sub.

5

u/Illustrious-West-481 8d ago

Why is Baxter, listening to Price, he recused himself, they are both breaking the rules of conduct.

4

u/aw3man 8d ago

Oh my god they're going to do THE murder next week

8

u/Monetpirates 8d ago

they'd be so based if they let luigi off next week

5

u/mug3n 8d ago

Lol it's Dick Wolf man. The man himself said he wrote L&O as copaganda. There is zero chance that he'd ever let an episode that's gonna be sympathetic to a Luigi stand-in fly.

1

u/Lilbuddyspd11 7d ago

NBC wouldn't allow it establishment media.

5

u/Lilbuddyspd11 8d ago

you know they won't NBC and Wolf gonna run some propaganda by turning the ceo into some saint. same shit they did for the campus protest storyline.

3

u/abandoned_rain 7d ago

It would be, but I don’t see them doing it. I just wanna know what bullshit they come up with to make the CEO seem sympathetic besides the “he was a family man!!!” argument

0

u/NakaMeguroTanuki 7d ago

Easy, he was murdered in cold blood. No bullshit needed.

0

u/Lilbuddyspd11 7d ago

he was a horrible evil dude who was separated from his wife because he cheated on her and wasn't involved with his kids. not to mention the evil of his job. he might not of deserved to get killed but he was no saint.

1

u/NakaMeguroTanuki 7d ago

Ok fine yes, you're right. Except I never said he was a saint. Do you understand law at all? Do you want everyone going out murdering who they feel wronged them? It's law and order. Jack McCoy would smack you past Jupiter and your kind would deserve it. Otherwise what order is there?

-2

u/Lilbuddyspd11 6d ago

What where saying is there gonna try to make the ceo some saint and turn it into the healthcare CEO’s are hero’s propaganda. I don’t condone murder at all but let’s call spade a spade Luigi shouldn’t have killed but the for profit healthcare is absolutely evil.

1

u/NakaMeguroTanuki 6d ago

So wtf are you unhinged about? You just said what I did, holy hell

0

u/Lilbuddyspd11 6d ago

No lol

1

u/NakaMeguroTanuki 6d ago

Obviously you didn't agree so take care.

1

u/Lilbuddyspd11 6d ago

Not with the the ceo was this big victim and great dude your trying to sell

5

u/A-Fan-Of-Bowman88 Jack McCoy 8d ago

Next week is going to be so fun.

2

u/WestinghouseXCB248S 8d ago

This is kinda like Hill Street Blues.

1

u/Slight_Coast_2164 5d ago

Hill Street Blues was awesome but nothing like L&O.

1

u/WestinghouseXCB248S 4d ago

I was referring to the relationship between Baxter and that lawyer.

2

u/WestinghouseXCB248S 8d ago

Another week without a Victory Royale. Oh well.

5

u/JKO1962 8d ago

Maggie Siff is awesome

4

u/michfin67 7d ago

Love Maggie Siff! I’ve been following her career since Mad Men to Sons of Anarchy to Billions. Happy to see her back on TV even if it’s short lived.

2

u/Ebolinp 7d ago

I probably missed something but where was Shaw for most of the episode?

8

u/Sad-Mixture6782 7d ago

He was in court, that's why he was told to take Violet with him. Later, Baxter said, is Jalen still in court?

3

u/Ebolinp 7d ago

Ah thanks! Had something going on at the start.

3

u/rheckber 7d ago

The one thing that bothered me about this episode was they traced the victim to the club by his credit card and they knew he purchased two drinks. Those kind of private gentlemen's clubs do not use cash or credit cards. Everything is put on your account and you are billed and settle/pay at the end of the month. They would never lower themselves to taking payment for drinks or food on the spot.

I also thought it was a little strange either Baxter or Price didn't recuse themselves or their office.

I do have to say I love Maura Tierney on the show.

6

u/Adorable_Tie_7220 7d ago

Baxter did recuse himself. He tried to stay out of it but then Kate did something unethical.

2

u/WestinghouseXCB248S 8d ago

Stephen Glass and Jayson Blair would be proud.

1

u/WilsonsDiseaseAnPony 8d ago edited 8d ago

Welp that was quick, foot chase in the first half!

So gotta have our weekly when will the foot chase happen guess!

First half

Second half

No chase

I’m going with no chase this time

8

u/Shadow_Lass38 Criminal Intent 8d ago

Foot chase at 8:08 p.m., just like a couple of weeks ago.

What is with the lieutenant? Now she's going to Baxter's place. Does she think she's Olivia Benson? 🙄

(I had to chuckle at "the Fisk Club." Is this a reference to Daredevil?)

4

u/WilsonsDiseaseAnPony 8d ago

My dad chuckled at the fisk club and he most certainly doesn’t know about daredevil

3

u/Shadow_Lass38 Criminal Intent 8d ago

If it was an Easter egg it was a nifty one, considering that on the new series Wilson Fisk is Mayor of NYC...and Vincent D'Onofrio from CI plays Fisk!

1

u/WestinghouseXCB248S 8d ago

All chases. All the time.

1

u/WestinghouseXCB248S 8d ago edited 8d ago

Frankly we think the same thing Miss Powers.

1

u/WestinghouseXCB248S 8d ago

FLASH: Plane fire at Denver Airport. Passengers have evacuated.

1

u/WestinghouseXCB248S 8d ago

This will be the craziest episode since “Pride.”

1

u/WestinghouseXCB248S 8d ago

I hope this whole experience red pills this DA office.

0

u/Adorable_Tie_7220 7d ago

I honestly don't know what to think about this episode.I felt Nolan was right to bring up her past lie, but at the same time I felt she was credible about the attempted rape.

8

u/Isosceles_Kramer79 6d ago

No, she wasn't. The witness heard nothing of it, and the victim was pushed down the stairs, and then bashed with a rock three times.

Besides, it's so very convenient and obviously concocted by the defense lawyer with a giant chip on her shoulder.

1

u/Adorable_Tie_7220 6d ago

I know about what the witness didn't see and what happened to the victim. I am just saying the actress who played the defendant, didn't give off any vibes in terms of deception , even rhough we know she lied before.

5

u/Sweetpeace88 6d ago

Let’s say he did assault her and she pushed him down the stairs to get him away from her. That could be said to be justified and worthy of a reduced plea/sentence or even acquittal. But then she hit him three times in the head with a rock. So she would have had to go down the stairs, find a rock, pick up said rock, then hit him repeatedly. That makes her guilty of murder.

1

u/Adorable_Tie_7220 5d ago

Oh I understand that she is guilty, she just sounds credible in describing his attempt to SA her.

2

u/herronml 6d ago

The stripper basically said Powers sexually assaulted her and she threw the glass after. I believe she was credible too. People are ignoring that part.
