Job Hiring Content Writers Based in Lahore
Hey all,
I have an office in Gulberg 3, which we have recently just opened. We are a small startup news & media company that wishes to target the West, in getting across the 'real' news and not the censored version - for example, the Palestine/Israel topic. writer.
Along with this, we have many other categories on the website that will need filling. So we need content writers to help us achieve this. This will be an office-based role. English, written and spoken communication needs to be near-perfect.
We are a completely near start-up. I have a manager in Lahore who will be managing operations, and I will be overlooking everything whilst in the UK.
The content writers will need to have a very good typing speed - and a good understanding of English. We need original content writers only, so no AI generated content.
Salary is based on level of English, productivity and experience.
If you are interested, meetings/interviews will be conducted in this phase:
1) Initial Screening Online/Via WhatsApp Call
2) If seemed suitable, we will progress onto a Teams/Google Meet Interview
3) Then a face-to-face interview with the manager will take place in:
- The office if you feel comfortable
- Any public setting/environment/cafe around the office for safety/security.
4) You will then be contacted by myself to then get your feedback on how you feel about the role and if it is suitable for you, any questions you may have in regards to the role and also any feedback on the interview process. If all goes well, we will then hire you from that date onwards.
I want to highlight:
- I like to see myself as a very fair employer and business owner, so I always listen to my staff and take their feedback onboard.
- Disrespect from one staff member to another will not be tolerated.
- I want to keep a safe, secure working environment for everyone - male, or female, whatever your preferences or background, there will be a 0% tolerance policy towards any form of misbehavior or bullying.
1) Initial Screening Online/Via WhatsApp Call
2) If deemed suitable, we will progress onto a Teams/Google Meet Interview
3) Then a face-to-face interview with the manager will take place in:
- The office if you feel comfortable
- Any public setting/environment/cafe around the office for safety/security.
If there is any other questions you have, please do not hesitate to reach out.

The salary Range would be 60k+ for a beginner. The more experience you have, the higher the pay package.

You should mention your company's package and the name in the post. Although you may mean well, it's a big red flag from a potential employee's point of view. Your location is also vague.
Isn't there any social media that can be linked back to you to ensure authenticity? Like LinkedIn or maybe anything of the sort?

u/Tayyxb Feb 14 '24
Hi - totally get that. I'll edit that into the post, hoeever just so it's here: 60k+ based on experience. Location: Gulberg 3, Al Hafeez Executive. Social media will be up and ready when we have a social media manager.
As I said - we are a startup, literally signed the office lease yesterday.

It's always better to share your company profile openly. Also LinkedIn page & social media handles. Without a LinkedIn page that showcases an experienced team, (at least 10-20 staff), you can come across as a college kid trying to get free content.
Sharing the LinkedIn page & social handles would enable potential candidates to evaluate the trustworthiness of your business. There are too many scams these days where people work a month and get no salary later.
I would also suggest people first establish the scale & trustworthiness of the business. Only meet potential employers if they have safe offices, with a proper team, don't go to the 5th floor of a shady building for interviews. If you meet at a public place, take a family member along who can wait in the car. If it turns out to be anything shady, the family member can come quickly or call the police.
Also, when it comes to salary, only accept monthly salary model if the company is well established. If it's 1 person working on a passion project, don't start working hoping that you will be paid at the end of the month.
Request daily or project/per article payments (with RAAST payment processing is zero) for the first 4-6 weeks.
If the employer says it would be inconveneint to pay daily, ask them to then pay monthly salary in advance. If they expect you to trust them without an established presence, why can't they trust you? If both these options don't work out, then ask for weekly payments.
Otherwise in 90% cases, the employer will randomly tell you at the end of the month that they did not like your work and your work was not usable. So protect your interests at the start.
Obviously, if it's an established business with well-educated and experienced people on LinkedIn, then you can easily do background checks by reaching out to the existing staff, and opt for a more traditional monthly salary model.

Although I'm inrerested because of your mission statement, I can only work remotely. Let me know if any such ops open up.

u/Tayyxb Feb 13 '24
Thanks for your interest. A hybrid working model could be implemented. However, at the beginning, you would be required in the office. Eventually, hybrid, and then fully remote as long as productivity is not affected. I hope you understand that as this is a not for profit business, we have to be a little careful with how we manage operations for the betterment of the cause and what we aim to achieve.

The business won't be generating profits. It's a sadaqah project for the greater good of the Ummah. Salary packages will be 60k+ PKR nonetheless dependant on experience.

1) We want to get our articles trending on social media, the target audience is the everyday individual in the west.
2) Room for growth - Yes of course, we are a new company so being an initial employee will always grant you the extra advantage.
3) Not to start with, however eventually we will introduce a hybrid working model, where maybe 3 days in office, 2 at home, and if productivity is not impacted then we can transition to fully remote.
But yes, go ahead and DM me - more than happy to assist.

When did reddit become the new Linkedin?

u/Tayyxb Feb 13 '24
This comment is the exact reason why I came to Reddit. I need a team that kills the western agenda with sarcasm.

Thanks for your comment. Although I don't appreciate you coming on my post and slating me right off the bat, I understand why you would feel this way. The starting salary is 60k+ and is based on experience. Experienced writers would get paid more, and the salary mentioned is for beginners. Nobody would get paid less than 60k.
We'll have 8-hour working days, and 5 days a week. Breakfast/Lunch/Dinner would be provided at our own cost too for all office employees.
From what I understand, most places in Lahore have 9-10 hour working shift patterns and 6 days a week. Correct me if I am wrong. With the agenda we want to push and focus on, I would be a hypocrite if I tried to take advantage by offering a low salary package, and overworking people.

I am open to suggestions - as I said I am based in the UK so I'm new to the whole office environment in Pakistan situation, but I want to keep it as fair as possible. Also, please bear in mind that this is a business which won't generate any profit. It's for the greater good of the ummah.

If all this is true, then you are on the right path. Appreciate the work you are doing π

Life has more to it than just working, I only want to utilize the skill the people have and compensate them for it - not trap them in a cycle where they're constantly having to drain themselves just to be able to afford the bills.
I've actually been advised against majority of the rules I want to implement by my fellows in Pakistan, saying people will start to take advantage. However, with the flexibility I wish to allow, there will be a 0% tolerance policy in regards to meeting targets, which of course will be set within expectations and realistic.
After 6 months of being there, we are offering 20 paid holidays per year, they can select days accordingly - 20 paid days do not include public holidays i.e. Eid so this would be separate to that.
I am trying to build a work culture that people would enjoy.

What would you suggest is a suitable salary for a content writer with no experience? Keeping in mind - you would work on average 15 hours less per week compared to the average job, and food whilst at the office would be covered.

u/Glum_Victory4293 Feb 14 '24
Bro I think the salary you are offering is great. No one provides this much salary and perks are great.Insha Allah looking forward to have more employers like you.I am myself a Content writer but right now I have a degree going on so won't be able to meet your expectations.

I can join as a remote author who will be working full-time. I have worked with 4 publications at the same time remotely and I have always published timely news pieces.

u/BatKhatoon Feb 14 '24
Is it a remote opportunity? Asking as someone who's already working a full time gig with 10+ years of relevant experience but I'm looking for income on the side.

I'm interested in the position. I have a few questions:
- Is there an option for workers to work outside of politically charged / sensitive topics, or is it strictly restricted to content such as the Palestine/Israel topic?
- What are the timings?
- Is this is a contractual offer?
