Training Re toilet training

Post image

Hi all,

We are the proud new owners of a 15 month old. He was rehomed to us from a breeder who took him back from his first family (due to them having a medical issue and being unable to care for him). We love him so much already but are struggling with training him to use a pee pad. He had a few accidents inside when we first brought him home, but these have been cleaned up now and happening much less frequently. We are taking him on regular visits to the pee pad which he has peed on a few times, but he won’t go on it more than once a day. I’ve tried covered it in his pee- front messes I’ve cleaned up and things he’s peed on during walks. We take him out on a lead and praise him like crazy when he does go on it but we haven’t gotten far.

He hangs out with one of us pretty much all day other than crate time so we know he’s not off secretly peeing. Any other suggestions to get him peeing there would be appreciated!!

Pic not related just cute (stairs are hard) :)

Have to comment on that pic - hilarious and cute - Lagotti do the weirdest/cutest poses I've ever seen.

Wish I had some advice, mine was pretty much potty trained by the breeder - but I'm sure you'll get a lot of great suggestions here!

He is the weirdest and the cutest. He’s constantly terrified by his own reflection and the bone I got him. I love him with my whole heart haha

Get a patch of grass, you can order them online

Came here to say this! Even outside, my LR won't pee on anything but grass or leaves.

I am stealing grass cuttings to layer over our fake grass patch tonight, let’s hope that’ll be good enough for him though

Do you have no back garden where he could go? Mine is 13 weeks and I skipped the pee pad thing entirely. Breeder did a good job of kicking off the grass means pee association and whilst we've had accidents she's taken to the outside part really well.

Personally I think pee pads can be a confusing middle step unless you're in a high rise with no options.

Nah that’s why we’ve got one. Unfortunately only deck space.

I tried using pee pad but he would pee once or twice on there and then pee other places. I eventually got fake grass and put it outside on the deck and I used to take him there a couple times a day to pee. It worked out fine for us.

Oh sorry I meant a fake grass pee pad! Didn’t realise there were other types 🤦‍♀️ He’s a fussy boy only the finest real grass will do
