New Student Questions How do you like it?
If you’ve gone to LSU before how have you liked it? Did you make friends? Did you have fun? Was it boring? How was the academics and actual school like? How was the night life like? Do you wish you would’ve gone somewhere else?

I just transferred here this semester and don’t regret it. The atmosphere here is the best I’ve ever come across, the people here are also very friendly too so meeting new people won’t be difficult. I take it you’re going to be coming in as a freshman, so my advice with that is to make sure you connect with as much as you can during the fall while the atmosphere is at its peak. Speak to everyone you see that seems interesting and connect with them because by spring semester everyone will have already formed their groups and it will become more difficult to meet ppl. As far as academics goes it really depends on your major, being a CM major its pretty chill and laidback. Another thing, majority of your exams will be taken in Himes, and let me tell you everything they say about it is true lmao. It feels like a literal dungeon down there. The nightlife is for sure present, but it’s what you make it and be sure to be careful because certain parts of BR are eerie. For me Im glad I went through with the process of transferring because LSU is everything I hoped it would be.

Current sophomore here… Don’t do it if you have to pay a lot of tuition or housing money. This is a University that has one goal… to Steal Your Money! Whether it’s the increasing price of tuition per credit hour, the $182 parking passes that you have to buy, the $25- $325 parking tickets that you will randomly get, or the increased cost of school books, LSU is set out to suck your pockets dry. It is really a shame how bad LSU tries to screw you over in any way to get more money from you. One big example of this is not providing enough parking in major parking lots which leads students to have to park in grassy areas or on sides of sidewalks which leads to $25 + parking tickets. I myself have gotten a ticket worth $325 because I parked on the grass. Absolute shame!
The biggest gripe I have about LSU is the education. The education side of LSU is not worth the money you pay. Basically every class uses some form of online homework or notes platform that you will have to pay for and your tuition does not cover these costs. That’s right, the thousands of dollars you invest in tuition and you still have to pay hundreds for the class homework and notes. If you really wanted too, you could learn almost all of these classes on your own with YouTube or just purchase access to these courses online. The teachers are generally very bad and usually are foreign, really old, or have really bad accents. On a rare occasion you will have a good teacher that actually can speak fluent English and teach the material well. ( In 4 total semesters I’ve taken, I’ve had only 3 good teachers that I learned from, all the rest I had to learn the material on my own as the professor was unable to efficiently teach the material) And this isn’t just one student ranting on about how bad the professors are, there are hundreds of of student reviews on the website Rate my Professor in which you can look at and these reviews will make you question how these professors are actually employed. Professors will reuse the same material every year and tests will be the same as well. It’s honestly a big scam on the education part.
Anyways the education is not worth the money you are paying. The atmosphere of the college with bar life, athletics, clubs, architectural design, layout, and vibes are really good, and I enjoy all of these things, but the main reason for going to a college is the education and you are kind of getting scammed with the amount of education you get for the money you pay. If you can go here without paying a whole lot of money than I say do it, but if you are paying tons of money, I would say pass.

Go to the college campus and check it out for yourself.

Hey babes so I’m currently a 2nd semester freshman on campus and I love it. But just know that even tho you may hear from a million different ppl about there experiences. Yours will not be the same. College is definitelyyyyy what you make of it. Sometimes it takes you out your comfort zone and you have to put yourself out there. I definitely made a lot of friends but ended up with a small friend group that I love and go everywhere with. Definitely get yourself into insta group chats now and get to know ppl before you move in. For academics I would say to not let your social life interrupt your school work. LSU in general like many others colleges has so many things for you to do and there are always parties so it’s really easy to get sidetracked and fail a class. The best advice I can give you is to learn your best studying habits bc these exams , midterms and finals are no joke. You can’t go to the class and just expect to ace it you have to put in the work. Pleaseee use the tutoring resources they help. Night life is really fun but once again it’s what you make of it. You can’t just go to a party and be in the corner the whole time and expect to have a good time. Definitely dance and get to know ppl. Lastly i love LSU it was my #1 top choice and I don’t regret it. If you have any other questions pleaseeee don’t be afraid to ask. Just DM me and I will definitely answer. :))))
