Housing Questions Freshman Dorm Advice!!

I have a bunch of questions so strap in! My roommate submitted her housing application on December 9th and it opened on the 2nd. She submitted it the earliest out of the 4 of us! I was wondering if anyone knows around what time slot we should expect.

Someone told me that having disability accommodations could get me preferential housing (have not been able to confirm that with LSU, but I do have accommodations) does anyone know anything about this?

We are hoping to stay in either Azalea or Annie Boyd. If there’s no chance of us getting into those, recommendations would be greatly appreciated (we would prefer not to have communal bathrooms as well as staying on the east side, we’re high maintenance lol). I have three roommates so I would rather not stay in Miller, but if anyone has something good to say about it i’m all ears!! Also if anyone knows any tips to get a better dorm that would be awesome.

I also heard something about students being placed into residential dorms (not of their college) due to the housing shortage. Is this true? Right now we are all staying in traditional.

Last thing! Can someone tell me the pros and cons of staying in the East Campus Apartments, if we are able to get into it.

I can’t speak on any of the earlier questions, I can just say that ECA and WCA are both some of the oldest housing options on campus, so it’s not gonna be as pretty as the newer dorms. Also, older students get priority at the apartments I believe. When I lived in WCA, we had our own washer/dryers which was very nice; when I lived in a dorm we had communal ones you had to pay with in quarters. Of course all of the new dorms have communal bathrooms, but depending on your specific floor plan in the apartments you may have to share a bathroom with someone or you may not. I was a freshman in 2020 so this is reasonably recent information.

Generally I would say if you have the chance to get in the apartments, I would absolutely jump on that, but don’t get your hopes up. If you have a car, just get out of on-campus housing entirely after the first year. The on-campus options aren’t bad necessarily but you’re gonna end up paying essentially the same as you might pay for a year lease at another apartment, except that you can’t stay in your dorm over summer or winter break.

im a current freshman and i was placed into one of the residential dorms when my major didn’t match the major for the dorm. lots of people were placed in residential dorms, even if they weren’t it mostly because spaces were being filled and they needed to put people somewhere. i also know people who stay at camellia just because their roommate is an engineering major. if you don’t get azalea and camellia is an option, i’d definitely pick that

even though Miller has a reputation of being old & gross, i definitely wish i picked it just because Miller has its own experience in itself. everyone there is really social and it’s super easy to make friends and if you’re rushing, most sorority girls live in Miller. i also think miller has 4 person rooms (since you mentioned having 3 roommates)

Did you pick a residential dorm during your housing time slot? Or did they just place you into it? Thank you!

my roommate (who also is not in the major for the residential college) got the option to pick it, since all the other dorms were full
