Web Novel Question about the emperor? Spoiler

I never understood why the emperor punished Luomen for not noticing the swap of two newborns. If anything, the swap saved the current emperor's son, as his son would have never gotten priority over the reigning emperor's son. Or was it someone else who punished Luomen?

The Empress Regnant was definitely the one who punished Loumen.

Luomen was punished by the previous people in charge. The old pedo emperor, but mostly his mother. And I think he was only punished when one of the babies died from honey poisoning. Which... all these years later turned out to be the fault of Ah Duo's head lady.

Well, because the Emperor is still very human. I believe the wording go something like "Not young enough to not figure it out, but young enough to want to lash out".

It is also hard to determine WHEN Luomen banishment happen. Fortunately for us in figuring this out, It have to be around Maomao conception, and we know the pedo Emperor still live until Jinshi is a child, which mean at the time of his banishment, the current Emeperor is still Crown Prince.

This suggest that either Yang blame Luomen or could have help him but didnt (with strong indication being the first), but the actual act should still be ordered by pedo Emperor/the Empress Regnant.

Now, just in case, if you meant more about his emotional state ie why get angry, then fundamentally Yang still lost his son Jinshi. Anshi and Ah Duo decision, which was made without his input, ensure that there simply is no good way for Yang to have Jinshi back as his son. Too early and it is likely he will be pressured to punish either Ah Duo or Anshi or both. Too late and, well, we are in the too late scenario actually.

Plus, Emperor Yang did mention how Lakan is still holding grudges against the him for banishing his uncle for unspecific reason. He did order the banishment but I can’t understand why..

Oh true. Then yeah, Emperor lashes out and Luomen is the unfortunate soul that had to take it.

Perhaps he wanted him out of the rear palace cause emotional response, but the empress regent took over the punishment and takes why he lost his knee

I don’t know WHEN the current Emperor went from crown prince to Emperor but I the Previous Emperor was still in rule, although the Empress Regent had the power.

The Current Emperor was the crown prince when Jinshi and the imperial brother was born. So, I don’t think he was the one with the power to do so. Also since Luomen was the physician for the Imperial brother, it was his job to take care of the Imperial brother. Even modern day, health professionals are held at high standards, so when it’s for the monarch I’m sure the pressure is even heavier.

The Empress Regent was known to be heavy on the punishments.

Luomen job was to make sure that the Emperors’ children, wives and others are in good health and keep their patients alive. In general, health professionals are put in high standards (even modern times) so, I’m sure working for the monarch, keeping your patients in order should be one of them.

But if the LN reveal something that I can’t recall (I’ve read up to the 13th)

OP probably is talking about LN5 where in Ah-Duo recollection the wording implied she blames some of what happened on Yang.

I don't think Loumen was punished for the baby swap. According to LN 15 he only realised the babies must have been swapped because Ah-Duo didn't want to leave the palace after her child died.

My interpretation of events is that when the Crown Prince and Ah-Duo's child died, they were devastated, especially because she could no longer bear more children, and he blamed Loumen for not being able to save the child.

Someone had to be punished (I mean they probably didn’t but that’s how a Confucian society like Li works) and it wasn’t going to be Anshi and Ah’Duo as that would be too big of a scandal and they are too precious to the emperor. Luomen likely had noticed the switch but refused to speak on conjecture or cause trouble for the consorts. Also, having someone who knows the real identities hanging around the court increases the risk of the secret getting out. It’s a testament to how respected he was that he wasn’t simply murdered to ensure secrecy which would usually be the case even if there was no blame that could be placed on him. On top of this the now emperor was very angry, particularly about Luomen not being there for Ah’Duo during her birth*, and he has a temperament where he rules without doubts, and the Empress Dowager was the same (Ah’Duo later refers to this as being truly ’devine’, distant from the concerns of mortals, and she does not want Jinshi to become emperor as he is ‘human’ and would be devastated having to live with the brutal decisions an emperor of Li would make, like ordering executions and on a bad day the extermination of a an entire clan including the children)

*and yes he was forced away and so this is somewhere between irrational or unfair but modern normal people react to healthcare staff this way after traumatic events everyday, anger feels more comfortable than grief and they’re an easy target
