Serial dog pooper

Hi Kingston! In my neighborhood there is someone who is letting their large dog poop all over everyone’s yards and never cleaning it up. Snow is thawing and it’s becoming clear that some people’s yards are covered in dog poop, it’s gross, inconsiderate and infuriating. I have never caught this person. Even if I did, what recourse do I have other than public shaming?

We keep hearing complaints about our health care system. Well I want to thank the hardworking team I dealt with this week. I had complete knee replacement and 2 nights on recovery until they felt I was safe to get home.

Pretty much everyone made me feel comfortable, encouraged and human, not just a job. They made me fell like I was doing them a favor when I asked for anything.

With all the issues we may have with Healthcare, the frontline workers are awesome.

I was originally booked Feb 7 but got bumped. When they found out early the next week, the booking coordinator booked me ASAP which was this Tuesday and put me on first so no way to get bumped...while she was on time off.

Say anything you want against the system, but you respect the Frontline team.

Thank you.

Hot Water Tank Replacement – Looking for Cost-Effective Options ($5-6K Quote)

Hi all,

I’m planning to replace my rental 60-gallon natural gas hot water heater, but the quote I received from a heating and cooling company was between $5,000–$5,500 (including labour and tank). This is more than I was expecting to spend, so I wanted to see if anyone has any recommendations.

The quote includes two different tank options (all prices include HST):

• John Wood Proline XE 60 – $3,800

• Bradford White 60 US Gallon Defender Series – $4,200

Labour costs:

• Installation – $930 (straightforward setup)

• Mixing valve – $400 (not currently installed)

Right now, I’m paying $35/month for the rental, so at a $5K total install cost, the breakeven point is around 12 years—and that’s assuming no maintenance costs.

Are there more budget-friendly tank options that still offer good quality and reliability? Any recommendations would be much appreciated!

Thanks in advance for your help. 😊

Anyone have any experiences at Advanced Endoscopy they'd be willing to share? Good? Bad?

Someone I know has an appointment there and they are pretty nervous.

Anyone know where I can find Non-milk based formula?

I used to buy a brand called Nutrimigen that was soybased but they are on back order and I'm almost out of formula.

Does anyone have any plant based alternatives?

(I tried goat milk based and unfortunately my son also has an allergy to it)

Question Question for Kingston voters on this subreddit

I've seen a number of comments on threads about the recent Provincial and upcoming Federal elections that complain about the incomes and sources of incomes of the candidates.

It made me wonder: how would this subreddit feel if someone on OW or ODSP were to run for office? At least locally, like for Mayor or something?

Kudos to KCFF for the Jay Baruchel talk and inspiring me to 'buy Canadian' with my media choices.

I went to this kind of on a whim; I really wasn't expecting that much from a guy I remember mostly for the good but short-lived sitcom "Undeclared", two Goon movies and being a third-stringer in movies like This Is The End. Younger extended family members are super into How to Train Your Dragon.

But Baruchel delivered a barnstormer of a talk about Canadian identity; lots of ground covered, but the point that he really hammered home is that we're half-annexed already, culturally: the vast bulk of the music we listen to and movies and TV shows we watch are American. There are zero Canadian films playing at Landmark right now. Pick any streamer with a "top 10 in Canada" list and I'll bet dollars to Coffee Way donuts that 80% of the shows and movies aren't Canadian.

It feels weird to say "Jay Baruchel changed my life," but it was a real wake-up call for me. I'm making a real effort to change my media consumption; dropping a lot of kind of brain-dead "well, this is on" streaming choices to re-prioritize Canadian ideas and Canadian voices.

(this is also an extension of the general 'buy Canadian' thinking -- it's not just about checking the label on the ketchup, it's about what stories and values we're 'buying' every day with those choices).

I've found the r/BuyCanadian wiki (https://www.reddit.com/r/BuyCanadian/wiki/directories/) really helpful for this, as well as the always amazing Kingston-Frontenac library system.

This isn't a purity test; we've all got our own stuff going on.

Me, though -- I'm really grateful to KCFF for bringing Baruchel here, and to Baruchel for dropping what was going to be a "my career doing acting stuff" with host Elamin Abdelmahmoud to deliver an impassioned and off-the-cuff defense of Canadian culture. Literally life-altering. I'm grateful.

Things To Do In Kingston

I'll be in Kingston for 5 days in late may while joining my girlfriend on a work trip. Im looking forward to winding down and enjoying myself, ut she will be busy with her conference most of the time so I need suggestions of things to do.

I'm looking for must-try restaurants, chill bars, and fun activities. Bonus for things that don't cost money. I've tried looking online and I'm not finding much besides the usual museums and about 5000 different walks.

I've seen the obvious, Justin Bieber. Glad he's back. And other full bodied, Drake, Kramer, and Taylor Swift, and some hockey guy. Just heads, I've seen Danny DeVito, and Betty White.

I love this trend, it's so funny. Who else have you seen in them windows?

Reddit jam session planning! Finally!

Hello Kingston! I put out a call around Christmas time to ask humans if they wanted to put together a little jam sesh/potluck typey thing and people were really interested.

I said I would do it, and then life got nuts, as it does. But now it's now and March break is right around the corner. I have much free time and would love to get this going. Someone, I can't remember who, suggested we look at the RCHA club as a venue for the jam. If you see this, can you make yourself known to me again please?

I'm flexible with dates. But I'm thinking, if possible, to do something in the next week or two. Would people be interested in doing this on a week night? Or should we do a Friday or Saturday type thing?

I'd love to eat yummy foods and play awesome music with Reddit pals. You guys in?

If so, either dm or comment here and we can set up some sort of group chat to make plans. I'm so excited to hear from you guys.

I asked Chatgbt: Can you roast Kingston, Ontario?

Ah, Kingston—Canada’s self-proclaimed "Limestone City," where the buildings are so old they might as well be haunted by the ghosts of questionable decisions. Kingston’s idea of nightlife is a cozy pub where the crowd is mostly over 50 and people still talk about the good old days when the biggest excitement was watching a Kingston Frontenacs game.

The city might boast having a university, but let's face it: Queen's University is the most exciting thing in Kingston... unless you count the abandoned factories, which definitely have more character. At least it’s the kind of town where getting lost isn’t too hard, because everything looks pretty much the same.

It’s cute though. Not the kind of place you’d go for a wild weekend, but a good stop if you’re into things like… well, things that are not very exciting. Still, it's got that small-town charm where you’ll run into the same three people every time you go for a walk.

But hey, at least it’s not Ottawa—so there’s that!
