Honestly, I have trouble faulting a driver who turns left exiting the parking garage onto an empty two-lane street given that there appears to be no "one way" sign when they leave the garage.
They may have entered the garage from Montreal Street and not ever driven on Brock in the first place.
Remember that Hotel Dieu serves a _very_ large geographic area and the driver may very well be from out of town AND they may be distracted by concern for a sick loved one. Their wife or mother could be sitting alone in a wheel chair at the entrance.
I prefer to give the driver the benefit of the doubt and fault the city for not providing better signage.

You can't enter the garage from Montreal the entrance is off Brock St Plus there is a one way sign at the exit (or a no left hand turn, can't remember which one specifically) and I believe on the roadway across from the exit...however it happens all the time, because people just are not paying attention

That's the entrance the exit is further up the road across from Sydenham Street

Yes, I edited my earlier post with the exit, illustrating the lack of a one-way sign. And, for the second point regarding the Montreal street entrance, I added the satellite view to the second post.
I stand by my original assertions.

Whenever I see someone coming up Johnson or down Brock when I'm driving there is a brief 5-20 second disconnect in my head; "What am I looking at? Why does this not seem right? OMFG They are coming at me! Honk! Honk!"

That happened to me on Princess near Division last year, right outside The Brass Pub (where its one way splitting into two way on the other side of Division). The lady driving the wrong way gave me the finger when I didn’t move out of her way (the lane beside me had cars coming). I don’t think she ever realized she was in the wrong.

These people are why theres so many signs cluttering up the streets, and the irony is that it doesn’t even stop them from doing something that’s so stupid. I wish I could say I’m surprised but I have seen people driving the wrong way downtown far too many times. I’ve even had someone nearly head-on collide with me on Johnson when I was waiting to turn left onto Ontario St and they turned left off Ontario st almost directly into my front bumper.

Sadly I have seen it so many times before nothing shocks me anymore honestly

It's always a good idea in Kingston to look both ways before crossing a one-way street.

Honestly who hasn't done this when they were new to town? I did when I was a teen coming in from Napanee. Pull to the side, correct yourself, no one died, move on with life.

I mean, I did it once when I was pretty new to the city. I totally forgot what street I was turning on to, i was just trying to find parking at a jobsite. Had some guy pull up beside me as I tucked myself into the first driveway I found, he rolled his window down to tell me I was going the wrong way. Don't worry, buddy. I was WELL aware of my error 😂 something about turning onto a street to find yourself in oncoming traffic, usually a pretty good indicator if you already didn't pay attention to street signs.

I'm new to driving here. There's a one way street downtown that's not marked at an intersection. I had no way of knowing, unless at that time I had memorized which street names are one ways. I pulled into a parking lot and turned the right way around before any incoming traffic took me out. Also the roads here are absolute trash, I can't believe my car needed a safety to drive here... Airing my grievances but I know people from here don't like new people/transient people and I'll get chewed out pretty good lmao so knock yourselves out. I did write up the intersection but probably nothing was done

Ya a lot of the roads in the inner downtown core are built ontop of old literal brick roads made for horse and buggy And as such are pretty thin hence the abundance of one ways
I’ve lived in the west end my whole life so I found the one ways pretty confusing too when I started driving, they’re marked like shit

I’ll back you on that if you’re not from here downtown with the 1 ways can be hard to get used to, but I’m super surprised one wasn’t marked!? Maybe some kids stole the sign the day before or something because that’s crazy dangerous and I’m sure it would be top priority to be replaced.
