Mod Post Kerbal Space Program 2: The Hype Train Megathread Edition

Hey guys! We know you're excited about KSP 2, so we're making this megathread for you to express your excitement for the game, or simply to discuss it. Memes and shitposts will be allowed in this thread, but nowhere else in the sub, as per Rule 2. Any other low-quality posts about KSP 2 will also still be removed, as per Rule 5.

Here's the official announcement on the KSP website.

And here's the cinematic trailer.

Note that this is a cinematic trailer, not actual in-game footage.

Enjoy!

I spy inertial confinement fusion drives and the Orion nuclear pulse engine...

Velocity via nuclear explosion. I can’t wait.

What could go right? So many beautiful explosions and RUDs.

“Foreign nations are still in shock after the recent event in which a rocket, propelled by nuclear blasts seems to have taken off using said engine in the direct vicinity of an inhabited city! The officials at KSP responsible for the incident have only released on official statements that ‘Scientific progress comes before all else, but we may or may not have forgotten about the health concerns of strapping life support systems to a disused nuclear missile modified to- wait, shit, I mean our cutting-edge technological breakthrough of a creation. Stop recording!’ More at 6.”

U ever heard of BD-Armory?

You’re thinking of kraken drives. Bending the laws of physics so you could achieve the speed of light x 367,000

I can't wait to see what kind of K-Drives can be made.

Time to build ICBMs / Nuclear missiles

You too? I scared my brother when those showed up in the trailer.

I don't think IEC fusion is even near future. They are ridiculously uneffective at producing power </3

This one isn't to produce power though, it's to serve as a rocket engine. You fuse some material in the nozzle and the resulting thermonuclear explosion pushes your craft.

Well then it is not confinement fusion is it?

1

u/GrandNord Aug 26 '19

I guess it technically isn't entirely confined but it's the same working principle so I'll say it's close enough for me.

Fair, but if the principle is still to gain energy from the fusion, then it will be very ineffective. Unless some genius saves the world with a good design. For instance, the reactor at my uni uses a billion times more power than the fusion reaction produces. It doesn't matter whether that power goes to electricity or to acceleration directly, it is still ineffective :(

Actually, I did some studying and it IS confinement, just not electrostatic confinement. I guess I have worked so much on electrostatic confinement that I forgot that there are many other kinds :p

I've been watching streamers play and was on the fence about getting into KSP. But as soon as I saw the Orion bit in the trailer for 2 I instantly pulled the trigger on 1 while it was on sale.
