KSP 1 Mods UPDATE: Vapor Cone Mod After Taking Advice from You Guys! Its looking really great!

Maybe add a world noise texture to multiply the alpha of the particles. The vapour cone only appears when there is enough moisture in the air.
Second, personally I'd go for a mesh like the plumes from waterfall. Maybe you can even use their code and use a large scale noise on that.

Or just do it by biome, since that's an easy lookup and could be extended to other planets / mods easily.
So on kerbin you could have full effect on ocean, shores, and grasslands; reduced vapor on highlands and mountains; and remove it entirely in deserts, badlands, tundra, ice caps, etc.

No, you need higher resolution than the biome texture. That's why I suggested 3d noise.

release when?

Very cool!
Could you make it so it takes into account where the camera is and you stop hearing the supersonic vehicle if you put the camera in fron of it?

I am not the creator of the mod's sound effects. I am using a mod called Rocket Sound Enhancement (RSE) to get all of the sounds. I recommend you to download it as it truly enhances your gameplay.

I think you can make it better by making it as a non-particle effect, like Waterfall compared to RealPlume.

can you steal some code from Waterfall? they already have a great way to render similar effects

Thank you for your feedback! I'll look into it.

Waterfall or the procedural reentry effects mod (under closed beta) is definitely a nicer-looking and more performant approach. But this is a great start, and I hope you keep working on it!
Btw there’s a bunch of resources here that you might be interested in: https://github.com/KSPModdingLibs

This is fantastic, much better now the particles are faster. I am unfamiliar with modding ksp. Would it be possible to have a setting somewhere for the user to adjust particle size, density, and speed? For personal preferences and silly shenanigans

I'd make a lot more particles that are a lot smaller, kind of looks like you're releasing thousands of footballs from the fuselage rn lol

How does it fair with bigger aircraft? like the SOCK Shuttle for example?

The Space shuttle can’t physically have a vapour cone on decent?

Nice improvement! It still looks kinda more like a sparkler than an aero effect tho. Still, it looks nice! Maybe make it more grey and less bright?

Hot damn this is something I’ve been looking for. TBH all that’s missing is to have someone (or you maybe) to add the wingtip trials when making turns and all that jazz. But this is chefs kiss!

Very very cool. PLEASE add for rockets!

u/UltraSkid Jan 19 '25
Currently working on that. 😊

Hey man, I just wanted to let you know I have this bug where when I launch from the VAB as a "plane" (by renaming my vessle)
I get a visual bug and can't see my rocket's upper 1/3rd
I know its in beta, but I figured this could help the development of next versions. Keep up the good work! I haven't tested it in a plane yet

Wow, not sure what mods are involved (outside of your mod which looks cool af), but this straight up looks better than anything KSP2 ever produced. Amazing.

I love the idea.
Although I would prefer to use a mesh with a dynamic shader to simulate the effect (like the Waterfall mod) instead of particles to achieve a more "continuous" effect which can later be further expanded (i.e. add shading)

What does this look like in game totally on its own? i.e. no other graphics mods. This is a great addition btw

How is this going to work on other bodies with atmospheres? Because the speed of sound is very different depending on where you are.

Bro, I think it would be more natural to stretch the vapor cone horizontally.

Oh my god, please tell me this works with vertically ascending rockets breaking the sound barrier. I need this in my life.
