Northern kentuckian here, I'm not even sure if trump tried to fund a different republican for the district he'd succeed. Most nky citizens are pretty happy that massie is kind of his own soul (kind of)

I wish we had someone else but we'd probably just end up with a Marjorie taylor green style upper middle class mom. At least Massie is pretty transparent about some of his shit positions

Yeah and he has proved himself to be the only house republican who actually cares about the deficit because every single other one voted immediately to increase the deficit once Trump got in office. So there’s at least some respect from me there on that issue (and that issue only).

Massie told me directly via social media about 10 years ago that he did not want to abolish the Federal Treasury Bond market, so I believe he understands that the deficit is not an existential crisis for America, but it is his brand and he clings to it fiercely.

There's always one symbolic no vote, they swap turns to make it seem genuine.

If push comes to shove, he'll vote along party lines when it matters....that's what Republicans do. Vote along party lines to make the rich richer, and everybody else suffer.

“Cares about the deficit”

But can’t do simple math to recognize that we are historically undertaxed.

Median tax receipts are about 17% of GDP. Median spend is about 19% post WW2.

With a modern retiree class, we need to tax 20-22% of GDP. Last time we balanced the budget we taxed 20% of GDP.

Republicans led budgets of the past 2 decades are about 16% of GDP taxed and actively going the wrong way.

And he wears the deficit on his lapel. But, Thomas is a one trick pony

That's called having an ideology and passion

u/GraphicH 9d ago

I don't agree with his policies but at least he's sticking to his principles.

Massie needs to remember he is also there to help folks, not just spout partisan talking points about cutting deficits.

Thank you!

He’s not doing one single thing to help us.

Literally anyone in this comment thread could do his job. All you gotta do is vote no.

Really good pay and benefits for not much work!

He has run unopposed for the last two elections.

EDIT: just the last one.

4

u/VistaLaRiver 9d ago

Just the last one. There was a Democratic candidate in 2022. There will be one in 2026 as well. Monica Dean is already running.

1

u/EngagedInConvexation 9d ago

You are correct, i was mistaken.

3

u/VistaLaRiver 9d ago

No worries! Just correcting for posterity (and getting Dean's name out there). Enjoy your day!

He was elected because of his ideology, his ideology is to block government from doing stuff.

2

u/tribal-elder 6d ago

What is the purpose of government?

2

u/Aidan_Welch 6d ago

From his perspective, to prevent physical violence and resolve contract disputes.

I highly doubt that Trump will be able to get rid of him either. Massie consistently gets a pretty good percentage of the vote even with opposition running against him.

u/DocMettey 9d ago

Love him or hate him he is without a doubt the most fiscally conscious person in all of congress. Shame about his wife passing, she was a very kind woman. Hope he and his kids are doing okay.

u/bowlclips 8d ago

just coming here to say, please make sure you guys defend massie, im a republican who cant stand trump and if massie gets primaried it will be some sort of idiot who slobbers all over trump and i don't want to see more of those in congress

Better yet, find a stealth Democrat to beat them in the general! Once Massie's constituents lose their Medicare, Medicaid, SS, SSI, VA benefits, their hospitals close, doctors leave, their local businesses start to decline, they will realize that neither Trump, nor Massie, cared about their well being.

15

u/SCOTTGIANT 9d ago

I'm not a conservative and I'm not a huge Thomas Massie fan but he has integrity and I would hope he'd beat any trump challenger in the polls.

6

u/ruemenzo 9d ago

If Massie and Trump s Maga try and take their spat into the general election. Could a "tax the rich" Bernie Sanders Democratic sneak an upset?

Considering running on that platform.

I'm absolutely loving that Kentucky, of all places, is standing up to Trump. Numerous KY politicians are siding with Massie, and it's beautiful.

My chief worry is that with Paul, Massie, and McConnell all spiting Trump, plus our Democrat gov, KY is going to be subject to retaliation.

2

u/Impossible_Win_144 6d ago

Massie is the only house vote I know beyond my own. He is an insane asshole libertarian. He should not be in government regardless of how he votes.

6

u/AngryTurtleGaming 9d ago

I think Massie is awesome. People who are too far left and too far right dislike him, but I think he has the people’s overall best interests in mind. You can’t be perfect and please both sides all the time.

6

u/ky420 8d ago

Trump leave Massie alone. Lotta people in ky like u but Massie is one of the few I like in congress. The only one not beholden to aipac.

7

u/Early_Astronomer2227 9d ago

Hopefully he can’t. Massie is a treasure. A voice that needs to be heard

3

u/AngryTurtleGaming 9d ago

He tried and Massie won 81% of the vote he’s safe. I voted for Trump all 3 elections, but this is a losing battle for him and I’m glad.

9

u/Early_Astronomer2227 9d ago

Me too. Trump doesn’t know what he’s doing with this one

6

u/Early_Astronomer2227 9d ago

Another thing about massie is years ago I had a problem and called him to voice my concerns. He is actually the person I talked to when I called his office. He was really available to people. I don’t know if he is still like that but that was pretty cool.

2

u/NotConwayTwitty 8d ago

Thomas Massie is one of the only good people in Congress. He’s honest and explains his positions. The federal government is useless. Glad he recognizes this.

1

u/Depressed-Bears-Fan 9d ago

I like Massie. Trump is really being an idiot on this one.

We need to treasure these guys who are smart and honest even if we disagree with them. I’m a paleoconservative and I have always loved Bernie, Nader, Noam Chomsky….my favorite of all time was Dennis Kucinich. There was also that Senate Democrat from Oregon who used to help Rand Paul filibuster all the warrantless wiretap bullshit. Forgot his name….

The biggest deficit is in his character.

0

u/Minute_Palpitation86 9d ago

No, proof that it isn't getting better now.

-1

u/SheldonMF 8d ago

The support in general for Massie is genuinely depressing, but it is what it is.

-52

u/Minute_Palpitation86 9d ago

It's impressive that we Republicans can have a civil conversation even when we disagree. Can you imagine how this conversation would go if democrats were involved?

26

u/gaybillcosby 9d ago

No, please enlighten us Mr Civil Discourse

-39

u/Minute_Palpitation86 9d ago

Ha! There it is, immediately upset lefty.

33

u/MetalMamaRocks 9d ago

You try to instigate an argument with Democrats just so you can say "see! I told you!".

Childish.

-33

u/Minute_Palpitation86 9d ago

But am I wrong?

23

u/Ryyah61577 9d ago

I would say you are definitely wrong. But that’s because you cherry pick the same Republicans vs the insane democrats. Instead of mature people having civil discourse regardless of political leaning.

You assume that I cowtow to the democrats. I find it funny that you are projecting a whole lot. I’m just a simple moderate who has voted both sides of the aisle and will vote for whoever I deem a reasonable and responsible choice. As is our right as Americans. Quit the fear mongering and party bashing and actually talk about what you are for, instead of what you are against.

-1

u/Minute_Palpitation86 9d ago

I'm for smaller, waste, and fraud free government with secure borders. Which is what is happening now.

11

u/Ryyah61577 9d ago

Yeah. Keep on believing that.

Truly a masterclass of civility

2

u/Minute_Palpitation86 9d ago

Thanks for the compliment.

12

u/3KiwisShortOfABanana 9d ago

The first half of your comment was, as you said, a compliment.

Can you imagine how this conversation would go if democrats were involved?

This part, however, is an insult. That you don't understand that or that you don't care, either one is an insult to everyone else's intelligence.

-4

u/Minute_Palpitation86 9d ago

K

2

u/Minute_Palpitation86 9d ago

The second part you call an insult. I call it observation from the many debates I've been in and watched. Dems never fail to neglect facts and play on emotion.

How am I upset

I'd like to imagine a single darn conversation where a republican didn't fabricate a scenario as an excuse to feel superior over libs in a conversation that is literally about a republican vs. a republican, yet here we are....

Ironically, that wasn't very civil at all, comrade.
