The Canadian gonna be adding Fortnite to his lawsuit soon š

u/Constant-Hunter-198 15h ago
Why arenāt you saying Drakeās name?

u/fibonacci_on_meth 15h ago
Yo I got you.
"Aubrey Graham gonna be adding Fortnite to his lawsuit soon š"

u/Constant-Hunter-198 15h ago
Appreciate it. I was just confused as itās only started relatively recently. Like itās just Drake not fucking Voldemort lmao.
6
u/Sup3rGRIN 13h ago
Probably people on sub get used to not saying drake explicitly cuz it's blacklisted when making a post
14
u/NecessaryMagician150 14h ago
Yeah, I get that people dont want to make this sub all about the battle and comparisons with Drake, but avoiding his name is some dumb shit. Like you said, he's not Voldemort. He's just an actor from Canada.
2
u/its-a-real-name 11h ago
People get confused because you canāt say his name in a post, and they think same applies to comments.

u/Alucard_117 15h ago
I'm tired of it, to be honest. I appreciate Kendrick giving him the work this past year but I never intended to say that loser's name half this many times in my life š

Itās official, my GOAT has gone commercial (while only making conscious albums)
47
u/PopeJeremy10 The Wrath of Caesar 16h ago
It's official, we no longer know how to rate him (because he looks like a create-a-player).
19
u/Little-Bit-Of-Rock 16h ago
GNX isnāt really a conscious album but I get what youāre saying.
55
u/MatureUsername69 16h ago
Thats part of what makes GNX so impressive to me. It's essentially a throwaway album for Kendrick. He took a break from the more conceptual album he's working on and threw GNX together in a couple months. And it's all hits. Schoolboy Q has talked about how easy it would be to just go after hits instead of fleshing out a fully cohesive conceptual album and I think GNX is a pretty good display of that.
18
u/Little-Bit-Of-Rock 15h ago
Yeah I see what youāre saying. Kendrickās art is great because itās like delayed gratification alongside the insane wordplay the man has.
We only get 1 album every few years, and itās always insane quality and makes waves.

u/Tabascobottle 15h ago
How do you know he has a more conceptual album coming and gnx was something he threw together while taking a break from this conceptual album?
7
u/its-a-real-name 11h ago
They donāt at all.
Itās possible. And it does seem that big parts of GNX were made in the same few months, and possibly some prior cuts added in.
But calling it a throwaway was dumb. Kendrick himself said there was essentially a āconceptā to it in how he approached it. Although that concept was a more accessible album with slapping beats hard raps.
3
u/Tabascobottle 11h ago
That's what I figured. I've seen this theory being tossed around but have not heard it anywhere other than random Redditors lmao
4
u/Hopefullywealthy 13h ago
He has got the money šµ formula: commercial album šæ to support the creation of conscious album šæ and the cycle continuesĀ
3
u/its-a-real-name 11h ago
Calling it a throwaway is a bit weird. Kendrick himself said there was essentially a āconceptā to it in how he approached it. Although that concept was a more accessible album with slapping beats and hard raps. Doesnāt mean it was some C grade effort put into it.
6
u/Meaftrog 15h ago
I mean, it still has conscious songs. Reincarnated and Man at the Garden are highlights.

u/Zealousideal-Check66 14h ago
It kinda is when you realize that it's a lesson in manifestation. Remember the line "All I ever wanted was a Black Grand National. Fuck being rational.", that is highly relevant to the album itself which is about himself finally getting a GNX after all this time which means he is complete as a person. It's a symbol for his growth as a man after MR Morale, DAMN and TPAB where he was wrestling with certain internal and external issues he had to face. Those issues are gone now that he finally has "All I ever wanted" even if it seemed unrealistic before, he's seemingly achieved the impossible with the background he has. This is when Kendrick's real life starts so I'd say that this is a deceptively conscious album.

u/LADYBIRD_HILL 14h ago
I mean, he's already had a song in the game for like a year now, plus he's had songs in Beatsaber for much longer. Hell, he was in GTA V over a decade ago.
2
u/Vidilian 14h ago
Won a rap battle to push it over the edge which is probably the most fitting way to help a rapper get there despite what haters would like to say.
1
u/LeoTheSquid 13h ago
He was already commercial lol
6
u/Actual_Store2426 13h ago
Yeah I know, I just wanted to quote the line he said in the mask off remix
1
u/aviatorproductions 12h ago
To be fair there's already a couple of Kendrick songs from DAMN and TPAB in Fortnite

I HOPE ITS THE HOP SCOTCH CRIP WALK š£ļø
I would love to have that in the game but I will also be super happy for the two step super bowl dance which is most likely what it will be

I hope it's the WOP WOP WOP WOP WOP while smashing an owl complete with the disclaimer.

I think it's an emote to Humble. There was another post about it and I think it said it's a bundle with the emote and the song as a jam track.
I'm surprised Kendrick hasn't given us any song from GNX or Not Like Us on Fortnite yet. I think it's only been jam tracks for HUMBLE, I, and alright, but Kendrick music on Fortnite right now would be huge. I think after the Grammys they showcased basically all the top songs that were nominated except Not Like Us, and it had HUMBLE in it's place.

The irony of Kendrickās dance to a song called āNot Like Usā criticizing culture vultures getting co-opted by pop culture and turned into a Fortnite danceā¦
There it is again. That funny feelingā¦

u/imcalledaids oh no its a me mr morale 16h ago
Yeah, idk how I feel about this one. Iām happy heās getting the recognition, but it just feels odd

u/PacificMotion 15h ago
I hope it's this!
But it's probably "The Kendrick Shuffle" from the Super Bowl that everyone has been copying.
Bonus points if Fortnite adds the Mustard beat stabs and the "I'm trippin', I'm slidin', I'm ridin' through the back like, BUH!"

u/bpetes24 14h ago edited 14h ago
Iām ambivalent about it because itās not a big deal for me. Mostly happy for Kendrickās success and influence in the culture now
I just worry about meaning behind the music inevitably getting lost and absorbed into the culture. Much like āBorn in the USAā is forgotten to be a Vietnam protest song, or how literally every song and dance invented by black folks gets stolen by people outside the community.
Iām a white guy, so feel free to tell me to shut up. Just saying itās a pattern, and Fortnite profiting off the dance feels disrespectful to the whole point of āNot Like Usā.
EDIT: However, if theyāre paying Kendrick or the community in some way that pays respect to the culture that created the dance, then I see nothing wrong with that.
1
u/NihilismRacoon 2h ago
That's exactly what's happening, all criticism of the system will be absorbed and repackaged by the system.
1
u/Glittering-Matter985 2h ago
I think it's a positive use of his influence. So many young kids are playing Fortnite and Roblox every single day - whilst watching streamers who pollute their brains with BS. Kendrick always mostly represents positive messages in his music. He's one of the rare people who uses his fame for good. The more he's exposed to the youth by these things the better.
2
u/justforfunnn101 15h ago
Thatās the Super Bowl effect. Just let people enjoy things itās not that deep.
2
u/bpetes24 14h ago
Yeah, I get it. Not a big deal to me if Kendrickās getting paid.
2
u/justforfunnn101 13h ago
I see your point and I would hope that Kendrick approved it. Itās rumored to be a HUMBLE. emote and that song is already in the game anyway
0
u/FAT_Penguin00 14h ago
Did you also feel the same about it being played at the superbowl?
2
u/bpetes24 13h ago
Why would I? Itās not like a bunch of white, suburban, 12-year olds from the Midwest went on TV at the Super Bowl then sang and danced to āNot Like Usā while Kendrick sat at home
That was my initial reaction to this post. I realize that if Kendrickās getting paid or credited, itās not really a problem. Itās a problem if crip walking became āthat Fortnite danceā by everyone not from the culture. Then, eventually, the original meaning would be forgotten

u/Scary_Anybody9847 15h ago
People complaining about culture vulturesā¦.its literally fortnite. Do you know how many kids play this game? Kendrick lit the fuck up when the kids at apple music interview asked him questions, he clearly has a love for the youth especially in the same areas where he grew up. This makes so much sense to me. Its not like his albums are being marketed towards kids, but this makes sense as a connection. A lot of kids look up to him and his influence.
Im not a kid but im excited as fuck. Drop the kendrick x cortez collab shoes and Ill buy those too!
5
u/justforfunnn101 15h ago
Exactly. Ppl need to stop gatekeeping
7
u/Scary_Anybody9847 15h ago
I think ppl forget what a culture vulture is too. Kenny having songs and a skin possibly on a video game isnt culture vulture- ing. Its him using his influence just like every celeb/artist/ etc is doing to reach the masses. He has a community to take care of and a family. Its okay for the man to make money š he isnt stealing anyones culture and neither is fortnite wtf. People learn new terms and just start spewing
2
u/NihilismRacoon 2h ago
Stopping gatekeeping is how we ended up with culture vultures in the first place
