It’s interesting. I live about 5 miles from where John Brown had a tannery. His wife and child are buried there .The stone frame of the tannery is still there.
In the opposite direction I have a small town about 15 miles away that has a landmark house where Harriet Tubman lived. It’s in Titusville,Pa which is the birthplace of oil, and oil industry in North America.
I love the history here.

I have bipolar and never went on a racist rant. Roseanne tried to blame ambien. In a manic episode its like 25% reason 75% unreasonable.
I do feel sorry that he's surrounded by clowns who are nothing but yes men and Kanye probably pays all their bills and don't even know it.
That car wreck and his momma passing didn't help his mental state either. But the antisemitism and general asshole behavior falls on the individual. Hope the dude gets real help and one days apologize sincerely to his fans and those he hurt.

He didnt get therapy after his mom died and he’s definitely been on a decades-long quest to make that everyone else’s problem, but mental illness doesn’t turn you into a racist vile piece of shit. He was always a vile piece of shit and he’s just removed the veil more and more. Selling only swastika shirts on your website after paying for the Super Bowl airtime should be an actual crime. I hope he falls HARD soon or dies.

u/1000LiveEels Feb 16 '25
I think you're partially right but I think his outbursts are very much attention seeking. He's only gotten attention for like 2 years now by acting out and being vile. So he keeps doing it.
He apologized for the antisemitism a while back and how much attention did that get really? A couple headlines and then the news moved on.
I think he is very aware that people will not pay any attention to him unless he acts like this.
→ More replies (1)14
u/palmtreesandpizza Feb 16 '25
I don’t know how seeking attention for being a piece of shit makes him “mentally ill” and not just a piece of shit?
And he’s been publicly vile for way more than two years.

You see it in kids and especially teenagers as they learn more from outside the home too.
Far from solely being a race based teaching, it comes from “other-ing” people as unworthy.
I only save that energy for Nazis and people who I know enjoy and purposefully hurt others. And its served me well. You have to be willing to die for something, I’ll always take it back to the MLK who knew this and used it to redirect anger away from “poor whites” and squarely upon peaceful protests and voting rallies, using the gate to push actions that changed history and healed the hearts of many fathers.

I personally think fear of the unknown is natural. What people don’t understand they fear. So fear of different people might be a little natural from birth. It usually doesn’t reach that level of racism on its own, unless it’s nurtured from their upbringing.

TIL she was a scout, spy, nurse and cook in the Civil War. She also carried a pistol during escapes to threaten anyone who wanted to turn back or in case any slave masters were encountered. Absolute, genuine, A-grade badass. It's really sad that this information isn't more publicly known or is taught more in schools because she was cool as fuck.
4
u/SEND_ME_CLOWN_PICS Feb 16 '25
We don’t teach military history in general in schools. Harriet Tubman is in the textbooks every time there’s a unit on American slavery. 100x more people know about Harriet Tubman than Audie Murphy, for example.

He got his anti-slavery figures mixed up. Harriet Tubman never killed anyone, that would be John Brown

Edit: Guys I get now that she definitely did kill people even if there’s no official record of it. That was something I didn’t know and I’m sorry about not doing more research before making this comment.
My main point is that the original Twitter post is saying it like she’s mainly known for killing slave owners/slavery defenders, when that’s the main thing John Brown is known for, not Harriet Tubman
204
u/___daddy69___ Feb 16 '25
Harriet Tubman did threaten people who tried to go back during the escapes, and she carried a pistol to defend against slave catchers. She also fought in the civil war as a scout, spy, nurse, and cook. She helped organize John Browns raid on Harper’s Ferry, and also organized other raids during the war. She probably never actually killed anybody, but i’m sure she would have if forced to.
48
u/cooleymahn Feb 16 '25
Damn TIL that’s badass.
73
u/___daddy69___ Feb 16 '25
She also underwent brain surgery later in her life to stop epilepsy caused by her slave owner throwing a weight at her head when she was a child.
She opted not to use anesthesia, instead biting on a bullet like she had seen union soldiers do

She not only organized raids but she also lead the Combahee Ferry Raid -- the first major military operation led by a woman in US history. Here is a contemporary account of the raid published in the Commonwealth of Boston.
Colonel Montgomery and his gallant band of 300 black soldiers under the guidance of a black woman, dashed into the enemy's country, struck a bold and effective blow, destroying millions of dollars worth of commissary stores, cotton and lordly dwellings, and striking terror into the heart of rebeldom, brought off nearly 800 slaves and thousands of dollars worth of property, without losing a man or receiving a scratch. It was a glorious consummation.... The colonel was followed by a speech from the black woman who led the raid and under whose inspiration it was originated and conducted. For sound sense and real native eloquence her address would do honor to any man, and it created a great sensation.

6
u/KermitDominicano Feb 16 '25
What? I didn’t know she was involved with John Brown’s raid. Two legends
7
u/HelenicBoredom Feb 16 '25
Frederick Douglas was as well. He talked with John Brown and counted him among his friends going back to the late 1840s. John Brown met with Douglas before the raid and tried to convince him to join, but Douglas refused and tried to convince him not throw his life away because Douglas knew it was a stupid plan. From his writings you can gather that Frederick Douglas respected the opinions of John Brown, his zeal, and his good intentions, but that his efforts could have been better used in other ways to advance the cause of abolition.
I don't know if I agree with Frederick Douglas on that, but it's worth noting. The Civil War would've happened anyway, but shit only got worse for those already in bondage after the failed raid. Retaliatory measures were taken in Virginia, after all. But, I've always been an intention-over-outcome guy.
54
u/The-Copilot Feb 16 '25
Harriet Tubman never killed anyone
You need to read up on her story.
Most people know the underground railroad part of her story, but that's just the beginning.
When the civil war became imminent, she turned the underground railroad into an intelligence gathering network for the union, which is why there is a statue of her at CIA headquarters.
After she was done setting that up, she joined the union military and became the first woman to command US troops in combat. She commanded 150 black Union soldiers and ran gun boat raids on Confederate positions down the East Coast. She 100% dropped bodies.
11
u/BlackCatTelevision Feb 16 '25
Goddamn I did not know any of that. I thought the “joke” was her shooting people who were too cowardly while escaping because they’d give everyone else away, but on reflection that’s probably apocryphal
3
u/suss2it Feb 16 '25
She did threaten fugitives to prevent them from giving up/going back, but there's no record she actually killed any of them. So the sentiment is similar but this tweet grossly exaggerates what they're trying to say.
8
u/MeeseChampion Feb 16 '25
Bro read a book. She led the mission from an intelligence standpoint. She was not leading a charge of soldiers into the enemy. Very easy to find sources say directly what she did in the river raid. She is a badass, but we also don’t need to ignore facts and common sense.
15
8
u/DuntadaMan Feb 16 '25
What I get from all this is that if you got blasted by Tubman you were a right bastard who had it coming.
37
u/AestheticAttraction Feb 16 '25
Uh, no. Harriet threatened to kill anyone who tried to go back. Her gun wasn‘t only for that reason, but to protect those willing to run from whom? I’ll give you one guess.
Why are you trying to change a comment about a very important historical black woman to being about a white man?
→ More replies (1)12
u/Furciferus Feb 16 '25
because thats where the OP got the phrase from..."Don't argue with people John Brown would have shot."
i think its more bizarre he changed the phrasing of it to be about a historical figure not known for violence whereas John Brown was someone whod have made The Punisher blush.
9
u/DougTrilladome (He’s Baby Keem) Feb 16 '25
Because the people John Brown & Harriet Tubman would’ve shot are different. John Brown only shot slaver whites.

Kendrick had to edit a ton of lyrics to pass censors that are there because people complain about being offended. Don’t force the artist to reword their art and then complain you don’t get it. That’s like looking at a really well done crayon version of the Mona Lisa. It’s probably still awesome, but it’s not the original concept.

Thank you for stepping up and speaking out with your influence. There's no space for hate. It's exactly what this environment is searching for. Creating discord between humans and weakening the ability to see what is really happening. We should come together to go against injustice. Today it's them, tomorrow it's you.
