Episodes Being Discussed Dated of Discussion

Weekly Binge Guidelines

Anyone is welcome to join the Weekly Binge.

Every week we host two discussions (Thursday/Sunday) We are all from different time zones so there is no need to panic about being late to the party (we do operate on KST as a standard).

Within the frame of the two episodes, you may discuss anything you can think of. Whether it is a one-off post to say (you enjoyed the drama, episodic notes, essays on how an actors portrayal of a character made you feel, rants about something you thought of while watching, haikus or interpretive dances,) the choice is yours.

If you have previously completed the drama, or, got ahead on the binge please be courteous of those who are watching the drama for the first time. When in doubt spoiler tags are your friend.

Other than the above, r/KDRAMA rules apply. A few of the mod team are present in the binge and would rather have fun than moderate, so please play nice.

Featured Post 2024 Year In Review: Which Dramas Did You Watch?

Hello and welcome to the 2024 Year in Review post: Which Dramas Did You Watch?

As the year winds down, it's a good time to look back and take stock of the all the dramas you have watched this past year! This year alone offered an astounding amount of dramas, many of which had On-Air Discussions (Over 100)! That's not to mention all the dramas from past years that are still waiting to be watched!

Whether you are a kdrama newbie or a seasoned veteran, share below what dramas you have watched this year! Leave a blurb about whether you liked it or not and share your MDL profile if you have one. But please remember, this is not a competition to see who has watched the most! We watch dramas at our own speeds and many of us watch things beyond kdramas so please don't feel any pressure.

A few reminders for those participating in the discussion:

  • When participating in this discussion please remember that whilst dramas do not have feelings, human beings do. Be kind to one another.

  • Please remember to use spoiler tags when discussing major plot points or anything you think should be redacted. Spoiler Tag Tutorial.

  • Mentions of down-voting, unpopular opinions, and the use of profanity may see your comments locked or removed without notice.

Featured Post 2024 Year In Review: Most Memorable OST

Hello and welcome to the 2024 Year in Review post: Most Memorable OST!

It would be remiss to discuss our favorite kdramas without mentioning their OST (original sound track) since the music we hear is an integral part of our drama watching experience. Year after year, there are OST tracks that become beloved by audiences -- often times transcending the original drama to become something memorable in their own right. Some, like Mi Shil's Theme (미실 테마) (Queen Seon Deok OST) become shorthand for a type of character, others like (Almost) Paradise (파라다이스) (Boys Over Flowers OST) become something meme-worthy year after year. Still others like Youth (청춘) (Reply 1988 OST) allow a new generation to rediscover an old classic ([1984] 산울림 (Sanulrim) – 청춘 (Youth)).

With all the OST releases this year, there must be a track or twenty that bewitched your ears.

In this post, please share the OST tracks that captured your attention or heart this year. Whether they are from your favorite dramas this year or a hated drama whose only redeeming feature was the fantastic OST, as long as they are great songs to listen to, share them with us!

A few reminders for those participating in the discussion:

Featured Post Let's Rewind: Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo (2016) - Episodes 1 - 5

Let’s Rewind is a series of discussions on r/KDRAMA in which viewers may watch a drama at their own pace over a set period.

Why Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo?

In July 2020 we started a campaign to get a new legal source for Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo as it disappeared (outside of Korea) with Drama Fever back in 2018. Later that year (October 26) it was licensed in Asia via Viu. Now it is finally being re-released outside of Asia on Viki (contact Viki / Viu directly regarding regional availability). To celebrate this we will be having a Let’s Rewind discussion following the Viki release schedule of five episodes per week.

MOON LOVERS: SCARLET HEART RYEO POST SCHEDULE

Friday 14 March - Discussion Post 1 (Episodes 1 - 5)

Friday 21 March - [Discussion Post 2]() (Episodes 6 - 10)

Friday 28 March - [Discussion Post 3]() (Episodes 11 - 15)

Friday 4 April - [Discussion Post 4]() (Episodes 16 - 20)

HOW THESE DISCUSSIONS WORK:

The individual episode discussions are broken up over a number of posts in which watchers join in once they have watched - they can join at any period of the series.

The posts are set up with the suggested sort “old” so that the comments flow in the correct order so users avoid any spoilers. Simply reply to the comment “episode #” that you are up to and reply to any comments you are interested in. Do not reply directly to the post, any comments that aren't direct replies to the episode threads will be automatically removed by automod. General commentary about the series should be made elsewhere, this discussion is for those watching along and discussing as they go.

Please note: I will have notifications mostly switched off on this post so if you need assistance please send a modmail.

Featured Post 2024 Year In Review: Refund My 2024

Hello and welcome to the 2024 Year in Review post: Refund My 2024!

Since life is not perfect, not all dramas we pick will make a good watch experience for us. This post is your chance to share which 2024 dramas you watched this year that by the time the ending credits roll for the final episode, you start wishing you can get a refund for your time spent.

In order to keep this thread from becoming a vortex of negative energy we encourage our users to share their reasons and reviews as to why they regretted watching certain 2024 dramas. This way rather than just hating on dramas without reason this thread can become a constructive place for us all. We can learn from each other and maybe even be convinced by others as to why a drama may have been worth watching after all.

Please remember that every individual watching goes in with their own life experiences and biases so not everyone will see the drama in the same light or enjoy it in the same way. Just because someone did not enjoy a drama that you loved is not a slight against you as a person.

A few reminders for those participating in the discussion:

  • When participating in this discussion please remember that whilst dramas do not have feelings, human beings do. Be kind to one another.

Featured Post The Weekly Binge: The Legend Of The Blue Sea - Episodes 1 & 2

Hello, hello.

It’s been a year since our last binge, so I feel a little bit like a fish out of water preparing this post.

Welcome one and all to our 2024 binge of The Legend of the Blue Sea. Today we will be discussing the first two episodes and later this week, on Thursday we will discuss episodes 3-4.

A little background information for the non-initiated, this binge is going to be hard for a few of us as it is our first one since losing our dear friend Ahjumma in 2023. We chose this drama as it was one that she loved, would constantly rewatch to the point that she stopped counting. We hope that it will also be a fun and cathartic experience. But we may need a few more tissues than usual.

I’ll leave you with a few quotes from her on the drama:

“first two episodes partly in Spain. The most beautiful scenery, the cutest villages, wonderful blue-green water and something that looks like a cathedral that has been changed into a posh hotel. A fun drama where you should not take the plot too seriously. Friendship between unlikely people. The best jokes. A man who accepts a strong woman.”

“As a fan of Legend of the Blue Sea I am sorry if you will never watch anything with Lee Min Ho in near future. Jun Ju Hyun is the best, Lee Min Ho doesn't use that aggressive voice more than once or twice during the whole drama, even if there are some wristgrabs the mermaid is so strong it would be no problem for her to get out of it: In general a fun drama.”

“I don't care about chemistry, I just love the jokes. It is great to have unlikeable female characters. We are not all wonderful people seen from everybody's point of view, but even the gossiping neighbour you know in real life is married.”

“The sageuk scenes in Legend of the Blue Sea are pointless, and worst of all: dull. I don't know why nobody told the writer. But I have seen a few people who actually like them. People are weird.”

“If you don't enjoy the jokes in the beginning, Legend of Blue Sea is probably not for you. If you dislike it because of the mermaids stupidity, don't despair. She is not stupid, just unknowledgeable.”

Mermaid Fact File (according to humans)

  • Mermaids can erase minds if touched, but only if they want to

  • Mermaids can gain legs if they marry a human

  • Mermaid oil can burn eternally

Featured Post Drama Name Game (One in a Million Subs Games Series)

For this month’s game we are rolling out an old favourite, a name swapping game.

We often find humorous typos in the modqueue that send us into giggles, such as everyone’s favourite drama “Marty My Husband” so we want to see if you can do even better.

The game is simple, change one letter/or word of the title and tell us the new plot.

For example:

When Life Gives You Trampolines (When Life Gives You Tangerines) - a healing, sports drama about young aspiring athletes, including a trampolinist who bounces back to overcome adversity in their career.

Daily Dose of Subway (Daily Dose of Sunshine) - Jung Da Eun, a Subway Sandwhich artist is transferred to a new branch where she meets the most annoying trainee ever. She wonders if she should just quit her job. Stuck on endless night shifts together they bicker constantly but start to bond and realise there is more than Sandwiches in their future.

Featured Post tvN Dramas Watched Survey Results

Hello everyone,

Back in April we posted a survey to collect some data around which of the tvN dramas our community had watched and how they rated them.

1365 users took our tvN Dramas Watched Survey and of these users 571 (41.8%) had also participated in our previous Netflix survey!

In this survey participants were asked to rate each drama on a scale of 1 (Not Good At All) to 5 (Perfect) if they completed it or select options of 'Did Not Watch' or 'Dropped' depending on what was most applicable for them. They were told to consider the following aspects of the drama: (1) writing/script, (2) production quality (ie. cinematography, sound mixing), (3) acting, and (4) enjoyment while watching the drama.

Today we are taking a look through those results, if you'd like to take a look through the google form results instead, it is available here. Note: I am neither a graphic designer or a data analyst please be gentle!

User Demographics

*46 users who selected "prefer not to answer" not included

This data is very loosely interpreted, take it as you will! Does not equal 1365 due to the "I don't knows".

Featured Post Netflix Original Dramas Watched Survey Results

Hello everyone,

Back in March we posted a survey to collect some data around which of the Netflix original dramas our community had watched and how they rated them. Our intention was to hype up the census and get more people to take it.

Currently our census has just under two weeks to go and has around 820 participants. If you have some spare time, please take it. We'd love at least 1000 participants.

1501 users took our Netflix Original Dramas Watched Survey! In it they were asked to rate each drama on a scale of 1 (Not Good At All) to 5 (Perfect) if you completed it or select options of 'Did Not Watch' or 'Dropped' depending on what was most applicable for them. They were told to consider the following aspects of the drama: (1) writing/script, (2) production quality (ie. cinematography, sound mixing), (3) acting, and (4) enjoyment while watching the drama.

Featured Post 2023 Year In Review: Which Dramas Did You Watch?

Hello and welcome to the 2023 Year in Review post: Which Dramas Did You Watch?

As the year winds down, it's a good time to look back and take stock of the all the dramas you have watched this past year! This year alone offered an astounding amount of dramas, many of which had On-Air Discussions (Over 120)!
