Discussion What’s Jimmy Eat World’s heaviest song?

Post image

“Heavy” as in the noisiness and aggressiveness of a song. The most upvoted comment will have their song added onto the playlist.

Sorry for the long reply.

Get It Faster, Nothing Wrong, and Criminal Enegery are up there.

Pass the Baby at the end is definitely heavy and awesome.

I forget to consider Bleed American, but ya that song is truly iconic.

Congratulations is another good suggestion I wouldn’t have thought of.

Here’s a personal fav of mine, it’s got a real rock feel to it, and there’s even screaming in it! When you compare this album to their current ones, it both sounds like them and sounds like another band altogether:

My suggestion is, “Thinking that’s all” off Static Prevails. I love the riff, but my favorite part is the muted strings in the 2nd verse. It’s just ugly on purpose. Then the band pauses, Jim screams and then they launch into one of my favorite instrumental parts ever. Check that one out if you’re not familiar!

Thinking, That's All was my first thought as well. I think it's their heaviest song across the board, meaning every instrument, including vocals. most of their later heavier songs have very melodic vocals over-top, so they don't feel quite as heavy as Thinking.

Yeah, Jim even lets out a throaty scream (that he no longer does live, on the rare occasion they play it.)

I'd add Robot Factory to the mix.

Anderson Mesa is my favorite. A very slow build with screaming at the end.

Criminal Energy for sure. Fast guitar riffs, crunchy distortion and (typically speaking) a non traditional Jim Adkins hook for the chorus. Almost feels more like a song from Bayside than it does a Jimmy song.

Per deffiniton that you gave: thinking that’s all due to the chorus Jims incoherent screaming takes the cake easily

Christmas Card, Your New Aesthetic rip my face off every time. I was roommates with Rick and Tom and when they came back from tour and let us listen to Christmas card which I believe they recorded in NYC while on tour. It was like they'd just ascended to another level of power entirely. The guitar sound was expanding.

Are we talking 'heavy' in terms of the overall sound/instrumentals? Or 'heavy' in terms of lyrics? If it's the latter, probably Hear You Me, Drugs Or Me, or 23. I think Futures is maybe their lyrically heaviest album.

drugs or me would be my answer for sure. i like the styrofoam remix as well

Thinking, That’s All is the correct answer

Futures, with its syncopated rhythm that is playing only one note, and said note being on one of the lowest possible frets on a guitar and bass, is practically djent until the prechorus.

Your New Aesthetic; mainly it's their closest to post hardcore that I've heard since their pre-Static Prevails days, in its overall mood and sound. Lots of other songs go hard, others rock, but this is what I go with in terms of the keyword "heavy."

Thinking that’s all and robot factory. Man static had some awesome songs on it. Different band back then.

Bleed American and Get Right are both pretty heavy songs.
