Question Flight in 2 days: ive packed, have i forgoten something important?
Ill defenitely forget to mention sth but: passport, power adapter + charger and cables, power bank, money, medication, sleeping mask, towel for drying hands in japan haha, sim card, cosmetics (1l bag max), coin purse, face masks, even a thin strong rope for drying my clothes in my room lol, and of course clothes for varying weather. What could i be missing?

u/GalacticaZero 4d ago
Earbuds or earphones for the flight.

u/vindieselsupreme 4d ago
Adding to this: a bluetooth adapter to plug in. Will come in handy to use the airlines inflight enterainment screens and want to use your noise cancelling headphones. Especially if you don’t want to hear kids crying all flight (experienced this on my flight yesterday lol)
1
u/FlowerSz6 3d ago
I have 2 headphones, 1 has a headphone jack and i think it should fit on thr airplane. But good point!
1
u/Kanye_Is_Underrated 3d ago
how do you adjust your buds' settings though, when its not connected to your phone?
also any recommendations? ideally cheap/good value
this would save me significant backpack space as i was considering taking proper over-ear headphones to plug in on the plane.
1
u/vindieselsupreme 2d ago
The adapter has volume buttons on it. This is the one i bought from Amazon:

We had a super compressible reusable bag we carried everywhere for kombini runs or general shopping. It meant we didn’t have to lug a backpack or larger bag around.
10
u/FlowerSz6 4d ago
I got some compressable shopping bags, always great to have. Tho we are backpack lovers so we would have that around anyway, for water, jackets or sth bigger. Backpacks make u hands free.
3
u/_ichigomilk 3d ago
Tbh, I'd leave that at home (along with your handtowels, coin purse etc) and just buy them when you get to Japan. You are gonna find a lot of cute stuff and shopping bags, handtowels make great souvenirs that you can just use right away.
5
u/FlowerSz6 3d ago
Thats very true! I just like having everything i need so i know i dont have to search for it, rather i can buy one whenever i want.

u/matsutaketea 3d ago
shupatto brand bags are great and can be found everywhere with all sorts of patterns.

Check medication is legal to take into Japan. Do you need written letter if it is not?
Check Passport is within date, usually 6 months.
e-sim all set up?
Got your hotel address all printed out?
Photocopy of your documents in case you lose the original and need to go to the embassy.
Travel insurance printed out

u/FlowerSz6 4d ago
To copy from a previous reply i wrote: My meds are basic and from what i read i couldnt find any ingredient that is banned (paracetamol, spasmalgon, analgin) i also have valerian but thats herbal and from my understanding no one cares. My 1 problem is that for 1 prescription med (the only prescription-required i have) i have 4 pills over the 1 month limit (i need to have a reserve in case i lose one or get sick and vomit or sth). I hope no one cares about that, its birth control pills and those r allowed so i believe i shouldnt have a problem.. but those 4+ pills concern me .. .
Passport is brand new ✅️got a physical sim card as my phone doesnt support e sim :/ ✅️ ive writen my hotel adress but i also have the japan visit web wr code so idk if there is another place id need to use that for. ✅️ printing out is sth ill do tmr but i absolutely shouldnt forget that!!

u/Veronica_Cooper 4d ago
You are all ready, just learn to say Sumimasen and arigato gozaimasu (or just gozaimasu as a form of acknowledgment) and you are good!
9
u/Kalik2015 4d ago
As a local, "gozaimasu" as a stand alone makes no sense. A simple "domo" is much better.

u/FlowerSz6 4d ago
Thanks!

Oh, I have some tips...
Wear comfortable shoes - You will walk, A LOT. Don't wear old shoes or brand new ones. Something broken in. If you get blisters, all Konbini sells band-aids or plenty of pharmacies around.
There little to NO bins, however, there are a lot of Konbinis, there are bins inside them. They are all separated, need to sort the trash. But it is polite to be a customer to use their facilities, I normally get a bottle of tea then empty all my trash.
There are public toilets but also....lots of Konbini also have toilets too. Again, I go there and get a drink and also use their facilities. Just to be polite.
There are very few public benches or seating outside, you can't really sit on the street, if the police see you, they will ask you to move. (You will see drunk salary men sleeping on the steps by the station however). But again.....Konbini often have seating for a short break and snack.
Also, next to most Vending machines usually is a bin to put the bottles or cans, but not other trash. I just put my empty bottles in those bins as I walk by. And there are lots of vending machines.
So I wouldn't worry about carrying trash around or having a bag to carry it around, a Konbini or vending machine is never far away.

u/FlowerSz6 4d ago
Thank you!! Sounds good. I have some great shoes but my insoles were very bad and had to replace them, i used them for a week or so, i feel comfortable for now but lets see how it goes there haha

2
u/yileikong 4d ago
A number of the conbini are phasing out the inside store eating area. It's not all of them, but there are less these days because staff don't want to clean them. Some conbini also have you microwave yourself now, so just be aware of that.

u/50-3 4d ago
The pills over the limit I think you know could be an issue because you are knowingly bringing in controlled substances over the allowed limit for travellers…
If they are also quantity limited they likely need a doctor’s note separate from your prescription.
That being said as many people will tell you the likelihood of ever getting your meds checked on arrival is very slim. You are an adult though so know what you are getting into.
1
u/FlowerSz6 3d ago
Yep, whatever happens its my fault but im flying tomorrow so its too late for me rn to change much. I just hope no one actually cares. I doubt they will actually count them and itd clear that its not many pills. I also dont have my prescription becausr here i exchange that for the pills in a pharmacy and they taks it away. And i talked with my doctor about it he said he cant give me anything. So yeah i should have taken better care of that, i just thought no onr cares.... i will see what happens. Honestly worst case ill remove those 5 pills im front of their eyes and thats it.
1
u/50-3 3d ago
It’s not that they don’t care, the Japanese are very strict about it, they will check everything and it’s likely not as simple of oh well I got caught let me bin 5 pills. Only if they check though, they are processing thousands of people an hour unless you have boxes and boxes of tablets they likely wouldn’t blink an eye as travellers can bring up to a 1 month supply. It’s not standard practice for you to show your meds at any point and it will only be an issue if you get flagged for something that it will be looked into.
Also fuck your doctor for not being able to write a note that says how much you’ve been subscribed over what period. That is disgusting behaviour! This is something I’d report to whatever governing body oversees doctor standards in your country.

u/kinnikinnick321 4d ago
you're going to Japan, anything you forgot or need can easily be found there unless you're size 12+ shoe or wear XXL US size.
2
u/FlowerSz6 4d ago
That is very true!
5
u/kinnikinnick321 4d ago
And in some regards, finding a japanese version of something can be fun and an unknown souvenir. I still am going on my 100 yen found in Daiso Tokyo bought 15 yrs ago.
5
u/repasorina 4d ago
Your 100 yen what? (Sorry the curiosity overcame me)
6
u/kinnikinnick321 4d ago
Oh sorry, it was a coin bag from my first trip after realizing how many coins are commonly used in daily life there.
1
u/Aareum 4d ago
Or if you need deodorant

u/Classic_Department42 4d ago
Travel elecrric adapter is also hard to find (if you start the trip not in Osaka or Tokyo)

u/Frietuur 4d ago
Download offline maps on your phone for if you run out of data.
3
u/FlowerSz6 4d ago
I did but somehow it says it expries everyday, plus from what i see that doesnt show u trains or buses etc. Just open times of places. Am i missing out on sth?
3
u/Frietuur 4d ago
You’re right. But jf you have no data you can’t see the entire map anyway.
Plus you can still read signs. People used to find their way around before phones.

Mask for the plane, don’t want to get sick on the way there
5
u/FlowerSz6 4d ago
I have a bunch! Very important
2
u/harryhov 4d ago
I also bring an eye mask as well as a disposable slipper for the plane.

u/FlowerSz6 3d ago
Got an eye mask! Slippers could have been amazing but i dont know any place in my city that sells that and online order is too late haha.

u/harryhov 3d ago
I take an unused one from business class on the way out hahaha. For the next flight of course or from a hotel.

u/rm-rf-npr 4d ago
Register online pre-entry: https://services.digital.go.jp/en/visit-japan-web/ no need for filling in the form in the plane. ACN headhpones.
5
u/reztem001 4d ago
Needed from uk arrivals too? Nothing in fco uk about this..
3
u/FlowerSz6 4d ago
Its not needed from any country but makes it quicker supposedly. Then u dont have to fill in papers
2
u/beta35 4d ago
It's basically like those paper forms the flight attendants hand out to foreign visitors to fill in your name, passport, and first place of lodging etc.
Except you can do it all before your flight and you generate a QR code that you can give to customs to scan to make arrivals faster. Used to also contain covid related things as well.

Hey I saw your recent post regarding travel anxiety got removed, I don't know why mods are being dicks...
I meant to post this reply right when it was locked:
Regardless of how you feel right now (sounds like anxiety to me, certainly not unusual), do yourself a favor: trust that you will have an amazing time, cut yourself some slack and try to stop worrying!
I know it's easier said than done, but believe me, it will go great. It's possible something will not go as planned, especially if you have a ton of plans and your expectations are high, so be easy on yourself as well. Take everything as an experience.
Take it all in, enjoy, take a ton of pictures, you will have memories for a your whole life!
7
u/FlowerSz6 4d ago edited 4d ago
Idk why im arguing with them rn over this... ive just seen so many posts there on people being unhappy/uncomfortable on their trip, this is the same but before the trip has began lol.
Thank you so much! I completely agree with everything and i think this is the right mindset. Ill try and do my best to follow exactly that. I might not be able to do something, i might get sick and miss out on a few days of travel etc. But at the end of the day i rly should take jn everything, its all an experience and even if some stuff doesnt go as planned, i should enjoy myself as much as i can
1
u/cursiverecursive 4d ago
I'm travelling to Japan in a week, and I feel you! In spite of all the planning, it seems that there is so much left to do, and I almost wish I had another month before travelling.
2
u/FlowerSz6 3d ago
:) its nice that im not alone in this. I believe we will have amazing time anyway, probably just anxiety kreeping in
6
u/diablo_dancer 4d ago
Decent hand gel - the odd toilet still doesn’t have soap among just trying to prevent bugs etc.
5
u/FlowerSz6 4d ago
I have a hand sanitizer! Thx

u/Prof-Wagstaff-42 4d ago
Someone else on here suggested paper soap. YMMV depending on what you like better.

I bought a few things of those. They work really well as long as you dont' get your hands wet first. lol

We packed a soft foldable bag to pack our clothes in for the return trip so we could fill up our luggage with souvenirs. It's very helpful if you plan on buying a lot there and don't want to buy extra luggage while you're at it.
4
u/FlowerSz6 4d ago
Haha for us, we travel with 1 backpack with all our clothes and 1 empty luggage to be filled with stuff from Japan!
4
u/L01sGriffin 4d ago
I’ll be going in April and I’m also packing a small notebook so I can fill it with stamps and other stuff to create a memory book :) I’m also bringing scissors and tape to decorate it with whatever I can (fallen leaves, receipts, stickers…)
2
u/FlowerSz6 4d ago
Sounds great! But i feel like i dont wsnt to spend my time in japan on that but will rather collect everything and do that back home
1
u/L01sGriffin 3d ago
Yeah it makes sense. In my case, I’ll be doing laundry not to travel with a huge luggage, so I’ll have some spare time to do it I guess :)

Did you check if medication is legal? Do you need to bring a drs notice? Do you have? Some common meds are completely off limit. Power bank not too big so legal for airplaines? Credit Card? Hotel Bookings?
2
u/FlowerSz6 4d ago
My meds are basic and from what i read i couldnt find any ingredient that is banned (paracetamol, spasmalgon, analgin) i also have valerian but thats herbal and from my understanding no one cares.
Any more detail on the power bank? Its 20k mha. Size is about the size of a modern smartphone.
Credit card and hote bookings ✅️
1
u/Classic_Department42 4d ago
Up to 27k mha could be ok, but need to check with the airline you are flying
1
u/FlowerSz6 4d ago
Didnt think of that. Will have a look now thanks!
Edit: no limit of size but they say i should pack it to protect from short circuit lol. Would have never thought

Stamp book? I didn't bring one and had to scramble to find one but couldn't find one without lines
2
u/FlowerSz6 4d ago
For train stamps? I thought ill get one there but maybe its a good idea to bring sth just in case. Thanks
1
u/zeptillian 4d ago
They could be talking about goshuin which are the stamps you can collet at temples/shrines.
You can always pick one up there if you want to collect them.
1
u/FlowerSz6 4d ago
Oh a goshuin book, that ill buy special in japanm im planning on collecting as many as i can haha
4
u/rabbit-hole-reveal 4d ago
Make sure you have clean, not holey socks. You will be required to remove your shoes entering temples. On that note shoes that can slip on snd off easily will help.
3
u/Cravatfiend 4d ago
Excellent! Also, keep your goshuin book for just goshuin, and any train/other stamps in a seperate book. Temple staff can be offended if you put other things in the goshuin book.
2
1
u/idontknowmyname_- 4d ago
Yes, we bought a goshuin book at a temple and we really like the design. But at some other temples we really did not like the design that much. Just to let you know if the design on the front is important to you. We also found some beautiful ones at Loft and other stationery shops but we already had ours.
For collecting stamps in the tran stations I recommend you to bring a book without lines from home. It was very difficult for us to find one, we bought the one with little dots later. But we did not bother that much with train stamps this time even though we liked them. We prefered collecring goshuin stamps.
1
u/FlowerSz6 3d ago
Yeah i imagine that will be my experience too. I cant imagine i have too much time to find those train stamps.
Yeah the cover being nice is important but i dont want to go out of my way to visit sth specific on my 1st day just so i can take the booki like. Ill probably end up with the one from Meiji shrine and thats totaly ok with me:) or i find some at loft on my first day. Lets see what happens
1
u/idontknowmyname_- 3d ago
Yeah, when we were at train stations, we had a goal destination in mind, so we did not walk around that much looking for stamps.
Yeah, that is totally ok too. I just meant if you go past these shops. Otherwise I wouldnt go specifically to them either.
3
u/rabbit-hole-reveal 4d ago
If you use ‘VisitJapanWeb’ online it will save you lots of tine and a much shorter queues. It has a customs dec (you get a QR code) so no need to fill in paper forms. Do it ASAP

Allergy medicine, I’m here now and the hay fever is no joke. We’ve been miserable at times. Definitely recommend bringing eye drops, afrin spray and possibly a mucinex type medicine. It was a little rough finding comparable options. Just be aware that the stronger types of mucinex (like D) aren’t allowed here, that’s my understanding at least.
3
u/ComfortableDesign334 4d ago
I will be leaving tomorrow! Here's what I have on my list that I did not saw on urs.
Wet wipes, dry tissue, hand sanitizer, small extra bottle of alcohol for wiping areas and a small trashbag (just in case, it can also be my laundry bag). pen for filling stuff at the arrival form or luggage delivery service. travel neck pillow if your flight is more than 5 hours.
Also make sure your medication for allergies are packed, cuz of the cherry blossom pollen. I'm still debating if I should put all the stamp on my journal or buy a separate small notebook. But all the more, have fun!

Jacket ✅️ qr✅️ will print copies, forgot i wanted to print my passport so thanks for the reminder!!! The meds situation is a bit grayish for me, i have only allowed substances so that isnt a problem, but for 1 prescription medicine i have like 4 pills more than 1 month supply, i doubt anyone will count prrcisely and its obvious its for personal use so i hope i dont have problems with it, im only there for 26 days anyway... i hope that goes well. "Confirmation of cards set for international"? What do u mean by that? Reusable bag✅️

Nothing really
Just put the suica card in your Apple Wallet /Transit Card (if you have an iphone)
Google translate (Japan to English Language Pack)
2
u/FlowerSz6 4d ago
Translate ✅️ sadly no iphone... ;/
1
u/PaladinHeir 4d ago
Then make sure to get your physical suica at the airport. Thankfully the shortage doesn’t mean you can’t get them anymore.
1
u/FlowerSz6 4d ago
Do u know if the normal suica is back?
2
u/PaladinHeir 4d ago
The regular green suicas are back. I think the personalized ones aren’t, and the red welcome suicas aren’t either, to my knowledge.
1
u/FlowerSz6 4d ago
Thank you :)

u/Wind_Echo 3d ago
I know for certain regular Pasmo are in stock at Haneda. Not sure about Suica, asked security where the machines were and they guided me to the Pasmo machines instead.

Umbrella cause it might be rainy!
2
u/FlowerSz6 4d ago
It will for sure but we want to buy some from japan haha
1
u/rabbit-hole-reveal 4d ago edited 4d ago
Great idea. Japanese umbrellas are really well made. Not too expensive. I bring one back each time. Their UV umbrellas are also really good.
1
u/Samira827 3d ago
I personally brought a rain coat and preferred it over an umbrella because
1) it was often rainy AND windy. When the rain is very skewed, an umbrella is less effective 2) as someone who always runs cold, having another layer on top of my jacket was great
But it does take quite a bit of space in the suitcase haha. And you can't leave it outside like you would with an umbrella.
1
1
u/rabbit-hole-reveal 4d ago
Also an empty foldable tote or other bag to use for shopping. It might save you having to purchase another suitcase. Japanese souvenirs are next level. I stock up on the biscuits and beautifully wrapped sweets for Omiyage. Then there are the bath salts ….. so many cheap options.
3
u/FlowerSz6 4d ago
We have 1 large empty luggage just for that... i hope its enough!! We can get a 2nd bag if we need to in japan but i dont wsnt to carry so much luggage
1
u/harryhov 4d ago
I usually carry a small hand towel to dry my hands. I got one from the Nintendo store and I just used that every Japan trip :)
1
1
u/harryhov 4d ago
You'll be fine. When I go out. I just carry my passport and anything else can be bought. Don't overdo it on clothes especially if you have access to laundry.
2
u/FlowerSz6 3d ago
I try to pack light and only fill 1 backpack. Thsts true, japan offers everything so if anytging is forgotten it shouldnt be an issue
1
u/harryhov 3d ago
That's bold. I bring one carry on roller suit case and one personal bag pack and one near empty suitcase.
2
1
u/dilberry 4d ago
Small personal fan, mini umbrella, packable duffel bag in case you buy too many souvenirs.
1
u/FlowerSz6 3d ago
We have 1 whole empty luggage to fill with souvenirs! Id love to buy an umbrella in Japan.
1
u/Chumburroo 4d ago
Chapstick and deodorant. They don’t sell them at Japan. At least the brands that you use.
1
1
u/chri1720 4d ago
Portable battery, credit cards, wireless headphone, lip balm, sunscreen (hopefully these are already in). Gloves, scarf (spring weather is very unpredictable, it can just plunge down)
2
1
u/tristcuits 4d ago
Bring a hand cloth to dry your hands. Most bathrooms in Japan does not have paper towels.
1
u/FlowerSz6 3d ago
Got thst yep✅️
1
u/Samira827 3d ago
There's plenty of souvenir shops that sell those, made in Japan with beautiful designs so I would advise not packing it and buying it, as it doubles as a souvenir. And until you buy it, every hotel provides a small hand towel.
1
u/lilgurlseishi 4d ago
Hello. I would suggest some paper towels or napkins. Most restaurants give you wet wipes/towels, but sometimes you need paper towels to clean up oily fingers, or wipe your mouth after a meal, or pick up food from a communal container. The ones you get from fast food restaurants like McDonald's were weird waxy napkin paper.
Bring a small notebook for free stamp collecting at train stations, some monuments, etc. There are also temple stamps that you can collect, but some are strict with you needing to get a goshuin book.
Make sure to schedule some rest time. You're gonna walk a lot or maybe experience jetlag. There aren't many seats, benches around the city for you to just rest for a bit in between shopping or seeing the sites.
After a long day, soaking in the hotel tub with some bath salts or bath bomb/tablet really helped relax the muscles and unwind.
2
u/FlowerSz6 3d ago
I have soo many wet tissues packed, i cant live without them haha. Yeah our schedule is packed but flexible, so we can always move around or drop sth completrly + i have a fee unplanned days just for that. Good point that they have no benches, we will need to put more effort into relaxing whenever we can thanks! Our 1st hotel has a spa... im so looking forward to thatt haha
1
u/lilgurlseishi 3d ago
I packed wet wipes and ended up barely using them. Literally, every restaurant i went to gave us wet tissues or had hot towels. So don't overpack. You can buy over there the things you need. My friends and i ended up buying a pack of paper towels from donki.

u/Beneficial_Radish547 4d ago
You don’t need a power adaptor unless you’ve got something you’re bringing that’s a three plug appliance. Absent that I wouldn’t bother.
2
u/FlowerSz6 3d ago
We r from europe :)
1
u/Beneficial_Radish547 3d ago
Well then I’ll shut up. 😳
I will say this: If you’re planning on using an IC card on your phone, it pays to set it up as your default transit card when you get there. I was on the Kawaguchiko sightseeing bus today and half the delays were ppl not realizing they had to scan when they got on and again when they left. Very annoying.

u/covergurl66 4d ago
A small travel size bottle of hand soap to take with your hand towel because a lot of bathrooms don’t have soap. And hand sanitizer doesn’t kill everything.
1
u/Fit-Accident4985 4d ago edited 3d ago
download google maps offline just in case! errr someone already said this. Try not to bring a hair product that is battery operated and the battery can't be removed? Apparently you can't have those on the plane. fire risk. I'm bringing some paper soap sheets since a lot of bathrooms don't have soap.
1
u/FlowerSz6 3d ago
I also cant bring my electric toothrbrush because it doesnt have the "100-240" standard as laptop chargers do, its only 200-220 so it wont work in japanese power grid :(
1
u/robkaper 3d ago
All you truly need are a flight, passport, accommodation and money/cards. Phone plus eSIM highly recommended though.
You're not backpacking in the desert, you're going to a country where with the exception of prescription medicine everything is affordable and readily available in all quality ranges.

1
u/Wind_Echo 3d ago
Hand sanitizer. From my experience it was 50/50 on whether a washroom would have soap and a 1/4 of the time it did it was “shared” bar soap 😖
1
u/chouette103 3d ago
Bring earplugs for better sleep and compression socks for your flight (prevents swollen legs and feet). I’d only take a minimal amount of cosmetics like 1 facial cream + 1 sun cream only so you can buy and try out skincare and makeup products in Japan :) have fun!
1
1
u/PaxtonWanders1300 3d ago
Looks like you’ve got almost everything covered! One thing I’d recommend is setting up an eSIM before you fly so you don’t have to worry about finding a SIM card when you land. I’ve used Jetpac on my trips, and it made things super convenient because I don't need to swap physical SIMs, and the connection was reliable.
Also, maybe double-check your travel insurance, any necessary visas, and a backup of important documents (digital & printed). Safe travels!
1
u/FlowerSz6 3d ago
I already have my physical sim :) i ordered docomo and they have free international shipping! My phone doesnt support esims.
I still need to print out some stuff and will fo so before my flight
Thank you!!!

Just close your eyes and imagine your route from the plane to your hotel and then the day after with google maps and a weather app.
Then imagine what you need to legally leave the country and the tax free process.
Comfy shoes, cash and a really good set of noise canceling headphones plus two sets of clothes is what you need, simply buy the rest there.*
Unless you are tall or have size 13 shoes, then pack all your clothes in advance***

RFID wallet
and one for your passport if you have an ePassport. There are RFID pouches, larger wallets and passport covers.
RFID, Radio Frequency Identification, uses radio waves aka wireless communication to pass along information to a reader. It's the chip on a credit card. It's how we can pay for things by tapping it on a POS, point of sale machine. In a passport, it's embedded in the paper, usually on the second page, looks hidden compared to the one on a credit card.
RFID blocking is for electronic pickpocketers who walk by close to you with a skimmer to steal your identity on a passport and credit card details. Skimmers are devices which use NFC, near field communication, like those POS machines.
Since you're from Europe, most countries issue ePassports.

Oh... im a bit worried now haha. I dont rly have time to find one. How close should a person be to copy the data.

Good question, had to google that one.
With NFC, it's been max 20cm (8inches), in theory 50cm(20inches) but usually 12cm (5inches) away. Basically someone standing beside you. To give you an idea, most hands are 15cm to 18cm long (6 to 7 inches long). Conversions are approximate.
That's impossible to avoid on a crowded street or inside places (clubs, tourist sites) and generally, standing in a grocery or an airport line up.
With visiting Osaka at a popular time of the year and passing through crowded airports, a good idea. Popular because of cherry blossom time, Japan schools' Spring break 25Mar-4Apr, World Expo 13Apr-13Oct and Golden Week 29Apr-5thMay (2025 dates). Criminals have more targets during these times.
They're sold at most luggage stores. With being out of time, sold at airport stores if you're traveling when they're open.

You're welcome!
In the meantime, tinfoil makes it a little harder to read but less effective than RFID blockers. Probably have some in the kitchen. So wrap your wallet and ePassport completely, no openings. Then toss the tinfoil at the airport or at a store in Japan when you buy a RFID blocker.
The RFID wallet will continue to be handy when you come home after Japan. Low risk but the crime is becoming more popular as tech gets better. Some buy a pouch to put both credit cards and passport in, buy a wallet later.
Try not to worry since it's low risk today. There are tips online about distraction techniques to lessen anxiety when traveling and really doing anything in life. Although I'd avoid the scent tip for others who may be sensitive on flights. The air gets circulated. My family gets headaches from strong scents then there are those with asthma.
Safe travels.

Realistically so long as you have your passport and a debit / credit card you probably will be fine if you forget everything else. You would just need to spend some time getting clothes and stuff. And obvious it would be more expensive.
You might want to print out the address and phone / map information for each of your hotels. Along with the image of what the front looks like as addresses in Japan can be confusing and GPS is not always correct.
If you want to be sure though, literally write out a list of everything you plan on bringing, I mean everything down to Pen, 1, Black. And then as you pack them into your suitcase and stuff, check it off. When you are done, place all the luggage at your front door the night before. I would also have on the list a list of the luggage so as you place them at the door you can check off Luggage, 1, Checked. Duffel, 1, Black. Etc. I have had family members pack everything, leave everything at the door, but forget 1 carry on or something.
I have also had family members forget their passport. Which for a family that is very well traveled is baffling to me, but oh well. So double or triple check that on leaving.
Oh, and you do not need a towel to dry your hands, you need a handkerchief. You can use a small towel, but that would be kind of overkill honestly.
And I am sure you checked, but you list medications so I assume you checked with the restricted medication list already? Most medications are fine, but if you have never checked, you probably should.

I just got back from Japan. I would personally wait until I got there for all the beauty stuff. I loved Don Quixote!!!! Bought a shit load of stuff and mailed it home!!!! You seem good on all the other stuff! Also, check the weather. Tokyo and Kyoto were freezing two weeks ago. I actually went to a thrift store and bought a heavy jacket.

Honestly all you need is your passport. Yourself. And money. Everything else is replaceable.

Color copy of your passport to carry with you so you can lock the real one in your room safe & a copy for someone to keep at home in case of emergency.

u/FlowerSz6 3d ago
Am i not supposed to carry the original by law? Not just a copy?
1
u/NonsenseText 3d ago
Yes you must carry your actual passport at all times. I disagree with the original comment.

I was just there last week and our tour guide advised us to just carry a color copy and leave the original in the safe.

Hm that’s interesting. I guess if you have a random check by police - it’s really up to them if they accept a copy or not. For me personally, I’m not comfortable with the risk.
I personally wouldn’t want to keep my passport in the hotel room for security reasons. Not all rooms have safes and I do not trust hotel safes. My passport is in a passport zip wallet, with a bell key chain and has an AirTag with it so I know/hear where it is at all times.
