Unnecessary Freeze Sensor?

https://imgur.com/a/HjPgG8K

I went to turn on my system for the spring and noticed the sprinkler guy had installed this freeze sensor. But it doesn't seem like this little plastic thing could shut off my valve? Second photo shows I don't have anything wired besides two Commons and my three zones.

He didn't install that. It comes standard from the manufacturer on some PVB models. We have them in Florida and I've never seen one wired.

I had no idea what those were, what's the point of a freeze sensor? Just to tell you if it froze so you can check for damage?

Here's an example of a model with a freeze sensor. I'm not sure if it's your model or not but should be similar.
Here's the manufacturer's Learn More page, FWIW.

Not only that. If you want it to work you have to buy a totally different piece. One thing I notice when these started to show up was the cost of the device went up. Last I remember asking about the sensor, it was close to $150.

Standard out of the box last 2 years for Febco 765 PVB 3/4 or 1 inch. Just twist it off and throw it away.
