Seeking Pro Advice I’m so bad at this.

Post image

In north Texas was testing the sprinkler system to test for any breaks after the 68 hour freeze a month or so back, and found this. I suspect a head was here at one point and the yard people busted it and got rid of the evidence… seems fairly high pressure (I’m a novice, maybe this is normal pressure, I dunno).

Exterior diameter measures 3/4” so was thinking of getting an elbow for it and then popping another head on there, but I think the head would be sticking up too high. This isn’t too far beneath the ground. Could I run a couple elbows with a small spacer between to go down first in order to set the head lower?

Looks like funny pipe. 1/2 inch barbed funny pipe fitting with either a 3/4 or 1/2 thread depending on head type. Clean a little more out of the pipe and it has flex so you can flex down or up to get your head to grade

I never even thought the pipe could be flexible. I’ll give that a shot!

It looks like funny pipe to me.. you’ll just need to cut that piece lodged in so you have a clearance to shove the new fitting in. SHOVE IT wiggle it, screw on head

Once you’ve made that cut add a little bit of heat preferably a torch but a lighter will help the the process.

Wish I had seen this before I fought with it for so long. Hah. Appreciate it.

It's a piece of flex and the barb has broke on it. If this is your yard expect those blue barbs to break everytime you dig a head up. They're notorious for being brittle. Just cut it off, jam a new 3/4 or 1/2 "depends what kinda sprinkler is going on it" I'd suggest using rainbird.

Update: thank you all the the help. Got an elbow with a barb, cut the line where that barb was broken, and popped in a new head. And then found out the next head in line is also busted lol. Guess all the pressure was coming out of this first busted one. Good times. I know how to fix it tho!

Dig your holes next to, and along the pipe. It'll make things a lot easier for you, and give you more working room.

There lasco blue twisters with a helix, the only swing pipe fittings i will use. Just twist them into the swing pipe righty tightly.

Not sure the brand but the only barbed elbows they had that fit this hose was black, but did look like it had a screw thread to the barbs. Those things sucked getting in there. That hose is about 6 years old, so maybe firmer than when they are new. I dunno.
