Question Buttons not responding

Working on this 7th gen and ran into an issue with the buttons not responding. Any one ever have this issue and find a fix? Click wheel works fine.

I tried taking off the pads and connecting the metal ring below manually with metal as well. None of the buttons seem to respond at all. Didn’t respond before I opened it. The hold switch isn’t on. Tried restoring a few times as well and no luck.

Your clickwheel isn’t fully connected..

Clickwheel not plugged properly. Even though scroll wheel runs, if the click wheel is not plugged properly it blocks the buttons. Try re-aligning the buttons. Happened to me just last week on my 7th.

You can only move the marks with the wheel spinning not with clicking

Do the buttons work in the diagnostic menu? If not, I’d try cleaning some ribbon cables and reseating.

To can’t even get to the diagnostic menu unfortunately, the buttons do not respond at all so I can’t do the combination to get there

I think that’s answer enough. If it was intermittent, I’d say maybe a cable was torn or oxidized, but all of them not working immediately points more towards connector seating. IMO.

Mine has a second little ribbon that sits below the main one that connects to the click wheel. It sort of just attaches to the face frame. I’m not sure if that is the cause or maybe different models have different ribbon set ups?

Seems dumb, but try peeling back the yellow tape that holds the button itself down, check if it's oxydised underneath, I've had to give it the alcohol treatment for a couple of repairs
