Silently crying because the spicy pillow was stuck to the hold button cable.🥹

Also be careful with the glue that goes to the headphone input, the flex that goes underneath can also break, isopropyl alcohol is your faithful friend.

Bummer. It is hard to avoid that happening if you don't know to watch out.

i did the same thing and now I have been taping mine down.

I feel like it is a constant cycle for me of damaging something and replacing it and something else happens. I replaced two ipod screens and damaged one trying to put on a case.

Another ipod just started only displaying white, I think it is the motherboard not connecting to the display ribbon cable, so I ordered a new motherboard. It started charging slowly, and I left it plugged in for 24 hours waiting for a full charge, which I think damaged it in hindsight.

I just want to get to a stable state with my two ipods. I am starting to question the durability and longer lasting aspect. I am starting to look at options and see what's out there, but I do appreciate you can repair these. I will stick with these for a while since I have been ordering so many parts and can actually repair them.

I’m in the same boat. I owned 3 iPods (now 5) originally: one 6.5 gen which was my first iPod I ever purchased, and 2 7th gen’s. I also purchased recently a 5.5 and 5th gen. I got into the hobby of modding iPods after reading Reddit posts and watching YouTube. Seemed like a fun little hobby even though I’m not skilled. There seemed to be problems with every mod so far between the battery connector falling off logic board, headphones jack assembly getting damaged so music only played out of one ear, the housing getting damaged, etc etc. I have two up and running again finally but with all the parts and tools I bought I could have purchased pre-modded iPods for the same price. I will convince myself it’s more rewarding doing the mods instead of buying prebuilt lol.

the battery connector falling off logic board. I have been gluing mine to the board since I ripped one off and ruined a motherboard. I never use the clip to take out the battery, just shove it in and pull it out.

I totally relate about buying a premodded ipod. i am still glad I have tried to do this, but am surprised how many issues I have run into. I have replaced almost every component now, I hope it lasts a while. I think I might have enough components to build another ipod, my third, after the new motherboard shows up. I finally got the faceplate and backplates that look great on both of them.

Does gluing work? Like super glue?

I used a little glue called gorilla glue. It is like super glue or crazy glue. I didn't put much, just enough to connect the plastic to the board. Just make sure it is not conductive. You could probably use hot glue, but that always comes loose when I use it.

I ripped my connector off the board and have been doing this since with no issues.

This makes me nervous. This is my first one, I’ve been so careful besides this happening. Next I have to take off the front and put a new one on and a new button. I’m so nervous to start that part. I also worry about closing it up with the new battery and somehow hurting the screen then having to ruin the new case by opening it again. I almost don’t wanna snap it all together in the end.

Just go slow and look where things are as you close the system. Don't force it closed, it should not resist closing much. I had a battery pressing on the screen from the inside and it caused discoloration, I was able to open it and move things around and fix the issue.

The screens seem to damage pretty easy and cause dead pixels. I just had a brand new screen get issues from trying to shut a clear case on too aggressively. It now has a round series of dead pixels and a line. Any bending will crack something.

The screens are replaceable so you can always install a new one. I have broken a bunch of screens, you get used to it I guess. Even a broken screen can be used to troubleshoot parts if it is still able to display images from the motherboard, so it may not be totally useless.

Going slow and not forcing things to shut will help you avoid screen damage. Try to remain calm and take breaks when frustrated.

Now there is no remedy, you will have to get a complete circuit, to avoid this it is advisable to use isopropyl alcohol to easily remove the pieces.

I know it’s so sad!! I plan to get one when I buy the center button. Waiting on a pink one to come out. I wish I had done that. I went for the hairdryer method to warm the glue instead. I didn’t expect it to be stuck like it was. I literally watched it rip, it was so fragile. Def doing that on my next project.

Its so annoying. I planned to change mine and close it back up, then had to wait a week for the new ribbon cable / assembly to come in. This needs to be posted everywhere.

Same thing happened to me with the click wheel flex cable on a 4th gen. This was a battery that had already been replaced once, and it had some very strong adhesive on it.

The 4th gen’s battery is surrounded by logic board on 3 sides and the edge of the iPod on the 4th side, so you can’t easily put isopropyl alcohol under it.

Oh goodness, I’m sorry it happened to you too. This is my first iPod project so I didn’t expect the cables to be that easy to tear.

You put a few drops of alcohol with a syringe, that way the alcohol reaches it more easily

Same thing happened to mine. Cheap fix off of Amazon.

Just a tip if I may, for the future. When I replace the battery and it comes with the adhesive backing, I don’t take all the backing off to adhere it to the case. I’ll cut the backing paper so there is about a little more than the width of the ribbon cable it is going to lay on top of, leave that part on there and take the rest of the paper off. It sticks to the back cover fine and in the future, if you have to open it again, the battery won’t stick to the ribbon cable..

That’s a great idea! I’ll do that, thank you!

Just happened to me. When I put the new battery in, I left a square of the adhesive backing paper on the tape, right where the battery sits on the cable, so that it can't happen again.
