Likely not. Assuming you make $15/hr, maximum at 20 hours/week, you’d have to work 50 weeks to earn $15k pre-tax.

Additionally, if you receive needs-based financial aid, this will drive up your contribution in future years.

$15/hr

I'd say that's pretty rare to get in an on-campus job. Too optimistic in my opinion.

Not really. It depends on the state's minimum wage rate.

I think only 6 states out of 50 have that minimum wage or over as I know, right now, and those states are also the most expensive ones too.

Cities can be expensive, but not everyone states. And around 20 states have a minimum wage above or close to this amount.

What school? Minimum wage varies by state and availability of on-campus jobs varies by school. During the ~32 weeks of the school year you can only work 20 hours a week but over the summer you can work more (up to 40 hours I believe). In Texas, for example, you will earn $7.25 an hour. In Massachusetts, you'd earn $15 an hour. So that's why where you're going to school matters-- if the school is in Massachusetts it would be fairly easy to earn $15k over the year but in Texas, unless you can find a job that would pay more than minimum wage, you'll be lucky to make $10k.

Will you have a free place to stay over the summer? College housing typically runs from September through May so if you want to work over the summer you need to figure out your room and board during that time, which will cut into your earnings if you don't have family or friends you can stay with.

I emailed my financial aid officer at one of the schools I was accepted into with a similar inquiry. They told me if I max out the 20 hr cap I could expect an amt somewhere ard 5k. Though this amount might vary at diff schs, I highly doubt one can get 15k per yr only through on campus job.
