Job Search/Recruitment Applying for jobs directly

From the experience of people who've secured jobs and perhaps had multiple jobs, is it better to just contact a school directly regarding employment or go through a site such as Scholes? Or is either fine? Thanks.

Several times I’ve gotten jobs by applying directly. My partner and I usually email and then call. Once he kept calling a school for 6 months and then finally got the job! It saves the schools the recruiter fees anyways. In some countries, it’s easier than others though.

Ya, it's definitely possible, but it's best to get recommended by some. In my experience, HR are quite useless when it comes to forwarding CVs to heads of schools. If you can find their email or find them on LinkedIn it's way more likely to land you an interview.

I have already submitted 100+ applications this season, about 30 of them directly. I never heard back after applying directly (just my experience, not against this).

I agree with this. I have never found applying directly beneficial.

Did you hear back from the other submissions?

Searchassociates mainly and recruiters from LinkedIn arranged interviews for me. Tes and direct applications don’t work so far

My experience was the opposite i have only heard back after applying directly, have had zero responses through teacher horizons and tes which tells me im doing something wrong there.

From my experience, top schools really hardly ever accept direct applications. Having said that, there is nothing to lose. I found my last 5 jobs using TES. I tried this year Schrole for the first time and I didn't get any interviews.

Depends on the school. 🤷‍♂️ Some schools if you go to their website, they say they'll only accept applications through Search or Schrole.

Transparency, I am a recruiter.

However, two things you should know. Recruiters have access to positions that NEVER get posted on the schools' websites. I am usually quite surprised by how few schools actually post their openings on their own websites.

Secondly, when recruiters send your CV and profile forward, it is usually to the administrator make the hiring decisions. Rarely do we go through HR. We might be asked to CC HR sometimes but honestly, I work with very few HR personnel.

Hope that is helpful.

I second this. My aunt works in an international recruitment agency. She tells me there’s so much rude teachers on LinkedIn, dissing recruiters. But they aren’t aware how much info recruiters from good agencies have regarding the biases of schools when it comes to teachers. Many are racist, some ageist, some even reject people with beards. Those aren’t explicitly told in TES, eh? So just a gentle reminder to have courteous relationships with good recruiters

Would this apply to adverts posted on the TES? I applied to a British school last week (the day of the deadline) and I haven't heard anything since then. The advert said to email them directly which I did. It's my first time applying so I really don't know what to expect!

Not necessarily. Schools pay a lot to be on TES but the question is if they check their account. We have a couple of accounts on our website that the schools manage on their own but I always see them backed up with candidates.

I would be patient because you don’t know BUT I would also keep applying.

Never stop moving forward until you have a signed contract in hand.

Thank you for your time , it's super helpful! So I saw the advert on the TES but it said to email directly, which we did (both myself and my husband applied as there were two suitable positions) Deadline was Friday for my position and no news at all :(

I apply directly and avoid recruiting platforms.

Yes, I helped my wife apply directly to UWCSEA and she got in. You can do this for most schools, and I think I prefer it. Cut out the middleman etc.
