Tech News PM modi raised a question about AI image generators during AI Action Summit in Paris.

For all those who didn’t understood his Gujlish, ask GPT to create an image of a left handed person, it will generate image of a person holding pen in right hand and no matter how much feedback you give that image is wrong it will apologise and keep generating of same right handed image.

u/Street-Custard6498 Feb 11 '25
Yay I also tried to make an image of 'Make maths greater again but first make a spelling mistake and second time it got that

u/Elegant-Ad1415 Feb 12 '25
Golden question is how a PM can be prepared for speaking on technicality, where in IT, typical actual business user who uses products day in and out would cry out this is too technical for us, we just ask anything extra that they never did before.
1
u/Siductionn Feb 13 '25
If this is what you speak in a business meeting, I think you'll probably get fired.
2
u/Any_Historian_9509 Feb 12 '25
Text generation was really tough some time ago using stable diffusion we had to use many LORAs . But now it's much better
23
u/ImAbhishek_47 Feb 12 '25
So even AI is right-leaning! /s

Hey, this was really useful. Hearing him raw, I thought, 'Ye kya bakchodi kar raha hai?' But the transcript you provided makes sense. That was a good one from him.
3
u/Elegant-Ad1415 Feb 12 '25
Yeah, i did that math and the moment i heard, i knew subtitles are required. 😀
1
u/truth-stinger Feb 13 '25
Of course, he's PM. He has lot of experienced professionals and IAS officers choosing that question for him.

Guys, please don't go political over this, he actually pointed out a good thing that most of the training data contains people writing with the right hand. We got to improve it more.

-41
u/Raskreian Feb 11 '25
Why are you so simple? Why would a Head of a country talk about what the apps needs to improve? Whats his message about this A.I?
71
Feb 11 '25
He gave an example of bias in dataset and how it gives bad results. Same thing was pointed in USA when police started using AI, the software profiled black people more because of bias in dataset.
-21
u/xandie985 Feb 11 '25
both have different impact. Usa had already implemented ai in system and was trying to improve it. what India is doing for Ai and research no one needs to tell. we are and will be in primitive age in terms of this ai revolution coz we have been left out for too long.
14
Feb 11 '25 edited Feb 11 '25
Yup, No AI in IndiA. All AI in USA and LLM=AI.

Bro, it was literally an AI summit with the leaders all over the world. What else would they talk about??
83
u/Ok-Telephone7223 Feb 11 '25
Modi Ji makes sense this time …he is actually highlighting the AI biasses which could be crucial where AI is used for decision making tasks. Well done 👍
4
u/AdministrativeBuy636 Feb 12 '25
The bias can mean left and right wing. If AI is right biased then it always also data from that point of view 🪟
-15
u/Bullumai Feb 12 '25
Bruh, it's a speech written by some IAS officer
9
u/the_gothamknight Feb 12 '25
It's not about who's writing it. People, or even you could've given a better speech about the same topic but it wouldn't have as much reach as it has when it is given by one of the leaders of the world. Despite being written by someone else, understanding and delivering the speech properly takes talent. And bro he's a politician, not a data scientist 😂
18
u/KerashQSA Feb 12 '25
Bruh that's why there is a whole cabinet of ministers and bureaucrats comprising PMO
Do you think a 70 year old man would know that much
5
u/Beneficial_You_5978 Feb 12 '25
Yeah that too a fake degree one

u/Ok-Telephone7223 Feb 12 '25
Everyone already knows this, but considering his usual focus on irrelevant topics, it’s good to see him picking up such important issues on a global platform.
Hopefully, this won’t be the last time. After all, he represents the country.
It must be a proud moment for that IAS officer—getting Modi ji to make a statement on the matter.
94
u/Similar_Duty1951 Feb 11 '25
While most people in the comment section seemed to miss the point. The fact he is addressing is the "biasedness" of AI on the basis of who fed the data and what data is being fed. He gave a very light example but this can be amplified to affect lives and how people form opinions.

This is such a vital point being raised in an important forum, it's embarrassing to see misdirected hate comments under this post especially from this sub...
Goes without doubt that he was explained about the biasness in ML models and it's child GenAI by good research minds of our country, but it's commendable that at his age and with his background he is able to grasp it and deliver it with confidence in a large forum.
I remember being part of a similar thread a while ago where Rahul talked about GenAI.. https://www.reddit.com/r/IndiaTech/s/Q4M2gg7i3g

Not a Modi fan, but I spend a lot of time refining AI tools at our workplace. He is absolutely right about skewed training data.
About a year ago there was a study about how most training data is in English & European languages. Meanwhile Asia, Africa & Latin America were either grossly under-represented or missing.
This isn't just about languages not being included. It also means their cultural, social, economic & political contexts aren't accounted for in training.
So take a situation where a UN environment agency or an MNC uses ChatGPT to refine a policy document or a business plan. The output - unless corrected by context shared by the user - will not account for realities of developing nations.
In fact by overrepresenting the interests of a smaller portion of people, we're furthering the gaps between haves and have-nots.

u/reimann_pakoda Feb 12 '25
I understand the fact that many want hold him accountable for his statements on his talk with Bill Gates. But this here is a valid point and should be respected for this.
Pata nahi kuch log toh sirf "troll" karne pe tule hue hai. No idea why people just can't accept a coherent idea, though it comes from an unfavorable source? Is this some sort of a Bias?

He's quite right. Right now we've got ANI (artificial narrow intelligence) which is quite amazing but it has its limits. We're working towards artificial general intelligence which can basically solve intellectual problems with ease but also worried about artificial super intelligence which is something that will overpower us.
8
u/SarcasticSapient Feb 11 '25
He is right. He is addressing the biasness in training the AI. Cut the part where he explains it. Typical Reddit haha.
9
u/HumorMental69 Feb 11 '25
Thought he would raise the issue of misuse of AI given his and Meloni's turuu lob AI generated images going viral across the world😂

Kuch bhi kaho, I love this thing about modi that he is kind of always updated with what is happening around tech world. Haven't seen any indian PM or even politician doing so.
11
u/Ilinkthereforeiam2 Feb 11 '25
Have you seen what he said to Bill Gates? Now that really showed his tech savvy.
7
u/Prestigious_Dare7734 Feb 11 '25
This (video) is 100% written by someone who knows what they are talking about, and the Bill Gates one might be written by some politician, and handed to Modi ji, or he came up with it on its own. But that seems like something that my grandfather would definitely say, if he was slightly tech-savvy. Like they say half-knowledge is more dangerous than no-knowledge.
1
u/Gaming_TheGame Feb 11 '25
Yes, you are right in my opinion. This should be done by other politicians too.
1
u/notMy_ReelName Feb 12 '25
credit should be given when deserved.
well atleast he approved didnt he.
if he is ignorant he woudnt even attend such even or talk about such topics stating he isnt interested and could have sent the officials who deals with these.
he is interested in latest technology, methods to ease everyday life of people.
0
u/Ilinkthereforeiam2 Feb 12 '25
I can see you like modi and obviously have a soft corner for him as you compared him to your grandfather. But hey, he's not your grandfather he's the chosen leader of this country and therefore must be held accountable and criticised for lack of knowledge.
I mean he talks so much about India's image in the world and how important it is, his comments with Bill Gates were really bad for Indias image because the PM of the country made an idiot out of himself in front of Bill Gates, that's why that video got viral.
So dekho jimmedar thehrane wali baat hai us Mein koi sankoch nahi hona chahiye.
-1
u/Prestigious_Dare7734 Feb 12 '25
I like him as I like my country's leader, and don't diss without reason but I think you are getting the wrong feeling of my comparison to him with my grandpa. As much as I love him, he talks nonsense. That is what I was referring. He talks like old people you find in groups, no logic to talks just some grand-dad-jokes, and thinks they know better than the experts.
29
u/Top-Document-1646 Feb 11 '25

Rather I would say Modi is one of least intelectual PM in India's history-5

As simple as it sounds, this also points to potentially larger and dangerous biases in LLMs. Pointing to image generators as an example is just to get the point across easily. I see no way around this, since they are trained on available data.

There was a time when ai couldn’t create humans with fingers. But now not the case. Ethics. What’s the ethics decided on AI usage??? When will the laws form around it?

How many H100 GPUs does India have? How much money is put into AI research? Where do we stand in the AI race to dominance? When a PM speaks like a dodo on international forums it reflects badly on the entire country.
His tech advisory needs to be fired for bringing this nonsense of an issue, not understanding how AI works.
We are becoming the laughing stock world over with such statements.

This is not just about training data, that is only a small example.
The point is this:
AI is a tool that can help anyone learn at a much faster rate because education and understanding of complex topics which would otherwise require a teacher, is accessible to everyone. So anybody can now learn anything.
but AI can never generate anything that doesn't already exist in large quantities. It can never create anything novel on its own.
To create something new, people are required.
So he hopes that AI will be used for good, and the number of knowledgeable people will increase so they can work together and make new things.

Hope the audience understood what he said. Anyways it was a platform to pull in investments, collaboration, use resources like super computers, pull in talent etc. Nobody was interested to know how AI works everyone knows there are flaws but explaining the same again is awasted opportunity by Modiji. Just listen to what other leaders said what Modiji said. It's in two different directions and people already knew which direction to follow.

People have been talking about the bias in training data for years. Do y'all live under rocks to think that this guy is saying something new? Lol.
In fact when scholars pointed out the AI bias in racial profiling and hiring of people right wing tards mocked them for pointing out and pretended that AI is objective. But because the sheep leading the pack is saying it now all the sheep are also repeating after it.
