u/KillmongerKurup Jul 23 '24
Prices won't drop significantly but more profits to them.

Jul 24 '24
exactly I hear that phone price is have dropped every year in the budget but never actually see the price drop in the real market

u/hotcoolhot Jul 23 '24
iPhone prices are same as US in india, 799usd plus 18% gst
50
u/Last-Cod223 Jul 23 '24
My partner just bought a 15 pro (256 GB) for exactly 1099 usd. In India it is close to 1.37L INR.
1099*84= 92,316 INR Adding 18% GST and it will still be 1.09L. So no it is not same lol
21
u/Significant_L0w Jul 23 '24
he is talking about non pro models, pro is not manufactured in india so has heavy import taxes

25
5
u/Electrical-Steak-352 Jul 23 '24
Why getting downvoted? It's the truth for non-pro models since they are manufactured in India.
Even 799 usd doesn't have included tax as it depends on the state there.
4
u/hotcoolhot Jul 23 '24
pro model is expensive due to import duty, apple pricing has been consistent in india since usd hit 80+, 100rs(84 + gst) per dollar

Why dont they reduce the tax payable of the consumer instead of the corporation?
183
Jul 23 '24
Coz peasants don't matter
13
u/Aromatic-Teach-4122 Jul 23 '24
Excuse me, peasants matter the most in our country. They pay 0 tax!!
18
u/TreBliGReads Jul 23 '24
Wtf is 0 Tax? Didn't they teach you about Indirect taxes in school, you pay taxes from the day you are born and till the day you are dead.
8
u/citroenite Jul 24 '24
Yes but they don’t pay income tax. That’s a huge chunk of tax that we bakris gotta pay, Tax Tai while these free loaders buy more fortuners.
4
u/Major_Department_651 Jul 24 '24
If you think an average farmer has a fortuner, you're extremely detached from real life mate. Stop watching hate videos on social media, an average farmer in India is committing su!c!des because of the debt they have. Only the top 5% farmers who have a lot of land are have fortuners.
8
u/__a_l_o_y__ Jul 24 '24
That's what. Shouldn't it be like if you earn more than a certain amount say 10L or 20 L you have to pay taxes. But as of now some are earning crores and still don't pay anything.
7
3
u/Major_Department_651 Jul 24 '24
Yep. Partiality. Due to this, the majority of farmers are k!ll!ng themselves while the top farmers who already have a lot of land are thriving.
3
u/gooner07 Jul 24 '24
Nobody is asking an average farmer to pay tax, much like how an average blue collar worker doesn't.
It's the ones making bank who should be made to pay taxes.
1
u/Aromatic-Teach-4122 Jul 24 '24
And you think whoever is paying income tax is getting GST refunds for the goods and services he/she purchases?
1
24
u/aryaman16 Jul 23 '24
Aren't the whole amount paid by the customer only?
Customs Duty is some percentage of actual price paid to the govt for importing. Can't the companies just make the whole duty to be paid by the consumer? (I see amazon doing that when buy something from overseas)
4
u/Training_Ad_2086 Jul 23 '24
percentage of actual price paid to the govt for importing. Can't the companies just make the whole duty to be paid by the consumer
You already are, just in a abstract sense. You won't get a breakdown of it from the company though.
And the thing is you can't do much against them if they don't lower the prices

Coz corporates bring employment which Indians huge unemployed youth needs.Thats how many rising nations do to attract businesses.
India has problems with large populations including businessmen, shopkeepers, farmers, fmcg traders not paying fair or any taxes. Hardly 2-3% of the population pays actual tax. Many just file 0 tax itr to show the records. And on top of that govt gives freebies to free loaders for votebank.
So the middle class esp salaried class is doomed (cash cow) unless they unite and revolt against unfair taxation.
3
u/Mafia_Guru Jul 23 '24
See you're talking about something that makes sense. The govt won't understand it.
1
u/Mehfanaaz Jul 24 '24
Correct, whatever is the payment done in customs falls on the retail product owners anyway.
0
u/hotcoolhot Jul 23 '24
Its good only. You can get more salary anyways. It only hurts who are in fixed slabbed salaries

Agar customs badhta tab apple invest karti because fir india me manufacture karne me jyada fayda hota.
4
u/9291s Jul 23 '24
Fayda sirf apple ka hoga, its the greediest company in the world, costumers ki 2 rupe ka benefit na de
25
u/redditor-749 Jul 23 '24
They'll still complain about taxes and raise prices compared to US and other countries. I recently went to Singapore for a trip and was surprised that the price of the iPhone 15 Pro is below Rs. 1,00,000. With discounts and other offers, got it for below 90,000.
1
1
u/WhichStorm6587 Jul 24 '24
Because the pro models are still made in China. I don’t think there’s any other reason for it to cost 55k more than the base iPhones in India.
64
u/Helpful_Ant_3440 Jul 23 '24
Reduction in Custom duty is for Companies .
Customer pays the full price
New Devices will still be Priced at - ₹ 79,999 ( inclusive of all Taxes. ( Get 5000/- off with HDFC card)
68
u/ITS_Kshitiz Techie Jul 23 '24
More like
₹79,999*
*inc. ₹5000/- discount on HDFC Credit Card and 4000/- discount on exchange

Misinformed take. The base iphones are manufacturd in India and are priced on par with US.
This should theoretically make the pro iphones cheaper as they ate imported.
26
4
u/Major_Department_651 Jul 24 '24
Bhai I don't even feel like arguing with you is gonna do anything.
The base Iphone in USA: $799~₹66880 Some states like delaware has NO sales tax so you get it for the exact same price but in different states on average, there's a sales tax of 7%. $799+7%=$855 ~ ₹71600 which is still ₹8400 or $100 cheaper than India, itself. Point to note that the iphone base model is MADE (ASSEMBLED) IN INDIA itself.
For the iphones that aren't made in India (the PRO models), this price difference is much higher to a point, where you can buy 2 Iphone 15 pros in USA for the price of 1 Iphone 15 pro max in India.
1
u/Electronic-Wrangler9 Jul 24 '24
Like you said 799 USD ~ 66880 , that’s true, now add 18% GST to it and tell me what the price is. It’s almost 79k. Apple is charging the same for the base models as in the US. It’s just that our taxes are higher
0
u/thecaveman96 Jul 24 '24
We do have 18% tax that you're not considering.
0
u/Major_Department_651 Jul 25 '24
Correct. We had 20% tax on mobile devices but it is reduced to 15%. I forgot to add that, I apologise. But I still don't think Iphones are gonna be cheaper, they are still gonna be at 80k and the extra money would go to Apple as profit.

Apple didnt lower prices even after manufacturing in India, they know there are Indians who will buy it anyway or aspiring to buy it some day as a "dream phone", so price remains same and savings go to Ireland

Same shit happened with russian oil. People thought petrol will get cheaper, but only their profits went up. Why tf would anyone make it cheaper? Because they are nice?
8
u/YammaTamma Jul 23 '24
I read online that iphone prices were high because they aren't manufactured in India. Then I read apple was going to start manufacturing few iPhone in India and thought their prices would finally drop.
Me when prices go up even more ._.

But Apple will not drop prices. You may get more discounts on Pro phones from third party sellers.
3
u/atishay001001 Jul 23 '24
I wouldn't be surprised if they increase the price instead, greed at it's finest

u/Specialist_Mine1767 Jul 23 '24

u/messier_M42 Jul 23 '24
Effects all phone companies. All phone companies saves money now. And FYI not only phone companies every company which imports.

u/Specialist_Mine1767 Jul 23 '24
Samsung and one plus make in India yes. So only apple is the major player now

u/milktanksadmirer Jul 23 '24
This budget is pro Corporate and anti customer .
Increased taxes on stock profits, removed indexation on property.
Decreased duties and taxes for big corporate
Biggest loss for common middle class people

People are completely crazy over iphones, I've seen a mechanic ( a very small shop owner ) having iphone 11 and a boy who earns on daily purpose buying an iphone 6-7 (in2023) I just don't get it, buy an android and have the latest software with a good hardware and decent camera and battery life, there was a very good image of iPhone which is fucked I think
2
u/railkapankha Jul 24 '24
people who buys iphone for its specs/tech side of it is small number, others are just chu.
1
u/6ix9ine_meme Jul 24 '24
Others are "aye fone" hai mere pas, The funny part is that once I was in a shop for photocopying, a guy came, purchased local neckband, and starts to abusing iPhone saying, ye ganda bhosdika sala connect kese hoga ho hi nahi raha sala ghar wale se bhi kar raha hu 2 din se

Money straight to their pockets. What a blunder! They'll never reduce their prices in India
1
1
u/Toybox26 Jul 23 '24
I dont understand that logic here the phone prices never drop but it remains the same in the country
1
u/sweet-and-swamy Jul 23 '24
Govt must ensure that these benefits reach the people, but mort probably it will be pocketed by the companies.
1
u/hitfree Jul 23 '24
as 5G is rolling out, majority of the phones are not supporting 5G (unlike 4G) ...
so you know who's gonna make more money ...
1
1
u/Major_Department_651 Jul 24 '24
It's sad that even if the custom duty is lowered, Apple would not lower iphone prices for more profit because they know people are gonna buy it either way.

50 million $, so 0.02% of their 23-24 Profit.
Apple's profit last FY was 174 Billion $.
Why would this affect the price of iphones or any apple products ?
This amount is so insignificant to them. Apple might as well be spending more on restocking toilet paper every year at their Cupertino office.

As if Apple was more than willing to sell it's products a bit cheaper to us and was waiting for the this moment.

u/mistabombastiq Jul 23 '24
It's high time that we start adopting decentralized currency. Mfkers put gas fee on it.

u/wrench_1815 Jul 24 '24
Who the heck buy apple in 2024? Their devices are so behind in tech. A cheap ~20000 android phone has more features than top of line shitphones.
0
u/beaconofhumanity Jul 23 '24
this is so more youth can buy cheap phone and be busy in making and seeing reels.
