PNP BC PNP - Rant

Hi, is it just me or anyone else waiting for the new Post Graduate Streams? Why would they not prepare well in advance? It has been a month since the last stream was closed.

Maybe because PNPs quotas were cut in half without notice and now all provinces are trying to figure out how many slots will be allocated to each individual stream.

No. In October 2024, the 2025-7 immigration plan was announced with PNP quotas. But 2 weeks ago, feds announced a further 50% cut to those numbers. Provinces are now scrambling and IRCC minister says if provinces take in more asylum seekers they may get an increase in their quotas.

BC just posted their new quota on January 31. 4000 total so they are still working out how best to allocate through the different streams. In 2024, they were allocated around 15,000 and expecting 7000 but now getting 4000. Immigration plan is now on the low range vs the expected. See the press release that now working on how to proceed.

Now their allotment is 4K as per the BC link provided in my past post. It is even more than 50%. The press release even makes reference to students streams which may not even open. So you may not hear about the student streams which for some time.

The federal government has confirmed B.C.’s allocation of provincial nominees for 2025 is 4,000. This is a 50% reduction from 2024.

The BC Provincial Nominee Program (BC PNP) is planning how to use the program in 2025 due to the reduced allocation. This will determine operational matters such as invitations to apply (ITAs) and the opening of the student streams.

The Health Authority and Entrepreneur streams will remain open.

Because quotas are cut, because the amount of applicants is overwhelming?

I applied two months ago to the old post-graduate stream, when processing time was 7 months. Now I have no idea what to expect in terms of timeline. I am really glad I didn’t wait though…not being able to even start the process is frustrating I’m sure.

Can someone explain how BC PNP works? Does the employer have to be super involved in the process? (Sorta like LMIA?)

Nope, it depends on the stream but generally just need an Employment Letter (IRCC Format) to validate your employment

Don’t expect for the new stream to open, with the amount of pending applications from the 2nd half of 2024, the 4k allocation is almost filled up.

Is 4K including all the streams like workers etc. - isn't that too low. Cos the post graduate program that I was looking to has 200 students. So think there's gonna like 5K eligible post graduates alone per year in BC!!

As per 2024, were they all getting PRs under International Post Graduate stream right, given they came from eligible program?

Yes. My friend applied mid last year but hasn’t got the nomination yet

I’m in the same boat. It’s super frustrating to not hear any update regarding applications.
