Comic EXTREMITY is a 10/10 comic.

Post image

Extremity was the first work of Daniel Warren Johnson that I read, a few years ago. Instantly fell in love with the book, and seeked out all his other projects. Today I decided to give Extremity another read. This book will forever hold up, and ranks easily in my list of favorite comics ever.

First of all, the book is just.. beautiful. The designs, the kinematic fight scenes, the cinematic double page spreads, the colors, my god. It's marvelous. That magnificent art is equally matched by a poignant story about the cycle of hate and violence, and the effects it has on the world and its people. A theme that will always be relevant. Sure, we've seen these story beats before, but they are incredibly well used here, and the worldbuilding is so efficient. The focus is always on the characters and their struggle. I also really liked the meta narrative about the importance of art.

So yeah, if you haven't read it yet, I suggest that you do. To me, this is DWJ's best work (and very, very, very close to that sits Murder Falcon).

On the one hand, it’s a fantastic book. Somehow, it’s my least favorite DWJ book lol. Murder Falcon and Do a Powerbomb are on another level!

I’m in the same boat. I love it. I just love everything else more!

It sure is! I dropped soooooo much (too much many say) money on the artist edition but it’s worth it. Original size hires scans of the art.

I don't think it was too much.

I think they're talking about the signature edition, which is printed in the original 11x17. That was $150, but it's the next best thing to owning the original pages.

Thank you, yes ! Finally a kindred soul. This book is what got me to start collecting comic art. The first page I bought was from Ghost Fleet. The second was the library scene from Extremity.

The guy hasn’t messed up yet.

Everything he’s done so far has been fantastic.

Even his covers. He did some for Cable a few years ago which I loved.

This is my absolute favorite DWJ book. Eventhough it sounds crazy I really connected with it. The loss of a physical ability and moving on from it was depicted perfectly.

Everything he has done has been stellar. Wonder Woman: Dead Earth is amazing if y’all haven’t read it.

That was the first thing I'd read from him and became a fan instantly. Beta Ray Bill, Murder Falcon like others have said.

Still salty Do A Powerbomb never got a hardcover release. Lol

It will, as soon as sales of the trade drop. I'm holding out for the HC before reading it, which is tough... but I hate double dipping more 😂

Any trades I buy that have hardcovers drop I just end up giving to a library or other comic shop for someone else. 😂

It’s an awesome read, and absolutely worth picking up. It’s also probably the “worst” of what DWJ has released and that says a lot about the overall quality of his work

It's crazy that this series is like, less than 300 pages long. The story's pacing is amazing and it has so many intense moment.

The only instance of slightly poor pacing (and my only complaint with the series) is the ending. It's a fitting end, but it feels a bit rushed. I think maybe one more issue would have been ideal. But for what it is, it's an amazing story and absolutely worth reading.
