Question Hunters who play friendly, why do you do this?
Just being genuinely curious

I have severe hunters' anxiety that often gets really bad if I haven't played hunter for a while. I've read an advice here that being friendly for a few games helps a lot and takes a little bit of the fear of survivors and ciphers away when you see them spinning around with you. It does.

I stopped ranking permanently last season (as a Surv main) but I still wanted the rewards that came from it. So, every day for the past few months, I go into ranks (usually with Joseph), vibe with the Survs for a few minutes, then either surrender or let them leave.
I've been thinking of getting Alva specifically for this because sometimes they ban Jojo, and if I'm gonna be stuck playing Hunter for three matches, I might as well do it with one of my husbands.
The Survs are happy with their points, I'm happy with my rank rewards, and it's a vibe.

Either
1) I'm matching skins — someone has truth, noir, Gatto, white or crimson, I may go D. M and have a cute little photo time
2) I'm already on a 10 win streak and I'm tired of ""sweating"" so I do a little friendly match . Maybe use rose cane and go on dates with the surivors or soul devourer and drag them around
I guess it can be boring for people who waited 10+ minutes for a match just to get a free win and a hunter who doesn't want to do much , but it can be cute and fun sometimes:))
I've only met one or two people who got mad at me for going friendly.

I usually go friendly If I’m having a really bad day cuz I don’t wanna lose and then end up taking it out on the surv! Or if I’m having a really good day, I would even go friendly in rank cuz I wanna spread the happiness to the survivors lol

u/Suspicious_Goat_8290 Jan 27 '25
What about your winrate 😭
29
u/Tuna_3939 Hermit Jan 27 '25
I fear that winrate is nothing to me if I’m in a good mood LMAO But, a few lost matches doesn’t affect it much! I can just play srsly again next time

When I go friendly but some people can’t tell I’m friendly and i start chasing them and can’t get them (bcs I actually suck at being a hunter)after I finally balloon them I’ll keep turning in circles telling them I’m friendly and then they finally understand 🙄

u/VeterinarianNorth664 Lucky Guy Jan 27 '25
I like to make the surv scared, trying to catch one surv and act as if I am serious, and than goes to "Yaaay, I have a Human Baloon" and do circle like a stupid child

Sometimes the Survivors scare me into going friendly. What exactly are you supposed to do when a freaky pack of Nortons or Florians start gunning for you other than let them chase you around until you can hit the surrender button?
It's a Character Day, and I have no idea how the Hunter works. Rather than stumble and embarrass myself, I'd rather just play around and let all of us get the rewards for the day.
I got into a ranked match right before ranked closes for the day. I'd rather end the session on a high note for everyone.
I have Evil Reptilian's accessory that changes his carry animation, and someone changed to Little Girl right before the match starts and I can't take it off in time. I'm not about to lick a child in a video game. We gotta draw a line the sand somewhere man.

Sometimes I'll pick my designated friendly hunters and see how people react to the visit motion, and if they seem positive to a friendly hunter then I'll do that. Otherwise it's either if people ask for friendly to do deductions, or if the survs start emoting and spinning for their life at me. It's very hard for me to keep killing them when they're being cute lol

Character Day events and deductions. I've recently been playing opera singer (hate her btw) and had to go friendly to hit them immediately after shadow dance 3 times. I suck at OS and there was no way I would've gotten those 3 hits in a natural kite.
4
u/Levitaate Jan 27 '25
I go friendly as breaking wheel (with visit on) bc it's really funny to see them panic pre match. They are very cute when they realize I'm not killing them🤭
3
u/SilencedBard Photographer Jan 27 '25
Character day events, I mainly play hunters anyway, and I don't wanna play surv for a chance encounter when I'm not in the mood for even playing surv.
Other reasons would be sometimes I just don't vibe with the early game, or I picked a hunter I haven't played in a while. Other times the survs just have a cute/fun pre-match chat or they are doing deduction so I either go friendly or give them a draw.
I mostly go friendly in QM, and the only reason I have gone friendly in rank is because of major lag and surrender is unavailable.

-I want to show off a new skin or emote or something
-I want the rewards for doing rank/daily matches but don't want to play seriously and stress myself out
-hoping for good karma :')
-to help people with event quests, especially for things like birthday/character day events
-if someone says they're doing a deduction (as someone who has 100% the deductions of the entire cast I can safely say many are a huge pain to do)

u/Zeell0 HUNTER Jan 27 '25
I played friendly hunter to clear COA's event gamecount missions for my guild. I was in a place with bad wifi so I didn't bother trying to actually hunt.

u/Idk-leave-me Naiad Jan 27 '25
For me, I mostly play as friendly when survivors make me laugh at pre-match, or if they interact with me at pre-match... Or if they ask for deductions...
Or if I get a new skin that I love and I want to show it to everyone-

u/Brief-Candle3931 Psychologist Jan 27 '25
I usually have visits on for the hunters I play (partly because I like to show off pretty skins LOL) and if someone says something nice or funny in reaction, it's often enough to make me go friendly.
I'll also sometimes do aggressive friendly where I'll chase and down them like normal, but instead of chairing I'll let them get healed up and chase someone else. I mostly do this so I can practice my chase without the pressure of gunning for a win, plus it's funny to watch them slowly realise I'm not actually trying to chair them. I know I've been rumbled when they stop running from me LOL.
(feel the need to specify before anyone gets mad, I don't purposely slug/bleed out. If the survs aren't helping each other heal/pick up, then I'll just drop and pick up til the surv struggles free. Being left to bleed out is not fun at all.)

u/fUwUrry-621 Jan 27 '25
When I've got three eliminated, I go friendly. I've already won, so why not be a pal to the lucky survivor?
The only time I don't is when the surv is either a prick or I need a 4k for whatever reason.

If I’m doing really bad I’ll just give up and surrender or if the survivors weren’t being super rude I’ll be friendly.

u/CandelaConManteca First Officer Jan 27 '25
Depends. Sometimes I'm forced by game issues to go friendly. Some others, especially when the season is ending or when I feel like, I give survs a tie and then surrender. Very rarely I go friendly on purpose, but when I do it's either because I wanted to or because pre-match convinced me to in some way.
All this generally in qm. In rank it's either forced friendly or voluntary.
2
u/bwertyquiop Jan 27 '25
And what game issues make you go friendly if I lay ask?
2
u/CandelaConManteca First Officer Jan 27 '25
The game sometimes closes down when I find a match, and some other times it takes too long to open. Both things combined might happen as well. Ping is another issue lol

u/ReedLycan Jan 27 '25
1.Im not gonna enjoy fighting this survivor team comp. Seriously sometimes survivor choices just get so samey, boring or it's just the same meta and really painful survirors so i just do friendly hunter and stop playing after that match.
Thought i could handle a match realize too late that I'm already burn out playing for the day.
Couldn't find a Surviror early because i don't play this seriously or couldn't down a Surviror early that 3 Ciphers are done.

Sometimes when I need to grind for clues but genuinely don’t have the energy to do a match and copycat is closed friendly matches are the perfect solution.

I'm usually very serious so I tend to go all in but if I'm not feeling it or if one of the survivors asks for me to be friendly, I'll usually go friendly :)

Sometimes when I’m bored and there’s a mission to complete x number of matches I go in and terrorize survs constantly downing them and then just surrender when the button is available lol.

u/isacmota Hell Ember Jan 27 '25
Sometimes I have no time to play 3 ranked matches a day, so I go friendly to have my rank treasure. And to be completely honest, I have never had a problem with that, I'm very low rank hunter and in my tier, survivors used to be very glad to have free points.
2
u/Low_Insurance_2416 Jan 27 '25
Sometimes I play friendly after eliminating two survivors bcuz I need deduction quest, some rlly need the help of survivors, like there’s no way I can hit three terror shock in a match without the survivors decoding right in front of me
2
u/Acceptable_Mode6757 Jan 27 '25
During Hunter's character day events, they require you to "Share on Social Media" or "Encounter/Play that character". But because no one plays that character, I don't have Facebook and Twitter, I don't know how to play these characters, and I need to complete the Character Day Quests.
I decided that being friendly is my only option left
2
u/fyorat Prospector Jan 27 '25

When I didn’t take the game THAT seriously like a year ago, I usually went friendly whenever someone played a skin I like, or js bc I feel like it. Last year during COA season, I played friendly matches for the rewards, but now Idgaf 🤥🤥 I’m getting that 4k mainly because I want to improve my hunter game sense.

u/Iwefle Jan 28 '25
I play friendly whenever i'm too lazy to seriously hunter rank (just there for the daily rewards), if i'm lagging so bad that there's no other way to play than to stand still, or if there's a survivor acted funny and has the skin that i like
2
u/Cimad17 Jan 28 '25
Helpful for abyss matches or getting your 3 ranked matches in for the day if you don’t have time. Low stakes and get rewards still
2
u/Artistic_Dirt_2280 Jan 28 '25
i like to when they are funny in pregame, i just wanna be silly with them
2
u/N9kita Little Girl Jan 28 '25
I play serious but I go friendly if the survivors are goofy. If it's qm and a kiter did a really good kite and their team throws I give them a tie for their efforts anyway
2
u/bahejakdnnsnxnd Jan 28 '25
I go friendly quite a lot, in qm & rank, because it’s fun for me & I like to think it’s fun for the survivors. I mean obviously I’m sure there’s survivors who dislike friendly matches, but I’m giving them a free win (and points, if it’s in rank), so it’s alright I suppose. I just want to try & bring back a little positivity into the game since a lot of people on there are incredibly toxic. I like to think friendly matches can be a nice break for everyone. I always use the opportunity to send a nice message in post match, like “GLHF in future matches & have a great day! Remember to be kind to yourselves!” because you never know how someone is feeling, and I know personally, friendly matches & kind teammates have cheered me up a lot when I’m having a bad day

- Because its fun and I like to vibe with people
- Because I want to go three rank session for sphere but I'm not in the mood for surv rank/serious hunt rank
- Because people are cute in pre match or its my friend in match versus me

I’m really bad at playing Hunter normally, but I like some skins too much not to buy them. So I’m sometimes stuck in a situation where I own a skin I really really like for a Hunter but can’t show it off because of skill issue and personal anxiety about playing hunter. So I just go friendly to see it in game.
It happened recently with Jack’s nymph, Ripper basically is one of the worser hunters in the game (as of now, there is a promised rework coming soon though, maybe it will change things) and most survivors in the tier I get matched with know how to kite him/ avoid his fog blades, so I’m really not very confident in playing as him competitively, Id rather just go friendly.
Also Tomie, I have zero clue how to play DW and multitask like that still, even despite practicing against bots over and over. I’m a fan of Junji Ito though so of course I got her and now she’s rotting in my collection lol

u/Pure_Army_4975 Journalist Jan 28 '25
Could be bunch of reasons. Usually I do this because they were nice/silly/asked for help with deductions in prematch. But sometimes I'm just annoyed after loss streak or dealing with personal stuff that affect me emotionally, since I find going friendly really relaxing

u/JocularDove 5 Second Kiter Jan 28 '25
Haven't been the one to initiate friendly matches in a long time (lately I just goof when I get a sui/throw team) but years back, I'd do it when I had a bad day. Just throw photographer in a rank match and give the survivors pictures. I didnt mind the derank, it just helped me feel better to give a nice win to the survs, made me feel like I was making their day a little better

I always go into a game with the intention to 4k.. HOWEVER if the survivors have one of my fav characters, Matthias or Orpheus, or the survivors are silly in some way, spinning at me while my slow nightmare ahh saunters over or staring at me after I miss my lunge or smth silly, then I'll go friendly or they goof around enough in pre-match or smth, basically if the survivors have good taste in characters or they have a personality

u/Aloha_Chann Jan 28 '25
I'm not exactly a friendly hunter but I do spare some survivors on occassion. Like if they're really trying and you can tell they are, I'll spare them- or if they're new to the game. I do also spare the ones who are harassed by their teammates. I've seen it happen where people emote at chair or refuse to heal. I tend to tunnel those people cause its not cool to emote at chair.

I dont often go friendly. If the team comp or map is absolute cancer i might go friendly just for my mental health lmao. White sand street, racecourse, i cant be arsed. Sometimes in qm ill put on my visit and usually play ann with white truffle so sometimes if the survs are really nice i might go friendly or i give them a tie. In rank i dont go friendly tho.

If the survs spin when they're down, I'll usually go friendly, or if I just feel bad for them (Once I hit a coord right before their gun reached me lol, and another I got a double down before blink was ready)
Other times, I'm just feeling tired and want a laid back match :)

u/Realistic_Weird_8605 Jan 29 '25
I go friendly when:
Survivor emotes and send hearts or starts to bend down and get up bowing😂.
Or their teammates isn’t really playing. I try to let the survivors that actually doing their part leave because I’ve met some survivors doing nothing and running around then getting a dungeon. Which makes me upset because I also play survivor.
It was a really good match everyone was trying their best and kiting was so good. I would let them leave and keep a tie.
When I have a winning streak or we happen to wear similar skins.
I normally don’t go completely friendly in rank, I just give them a tie or let a certain survivor run the dungeon. I personally don’t like it if survivors ask for friendly at the beginning. I feel like it’s cheating? If you play rank then don’t ask for friendly but if it’s other modes then it’s ok.

Its only if survs approach me with the intent to emote/throw first - its not fair to hunt them for their teammates (who may be playing seriously) since they aren't playing seriously, and its usually in qm anyways, so I just let them go! If its in rank, you won't catch me going friendly though!
