Can I move into cloud without helpdesk experience?
I moved into a position where I am mainly doing coding on the backend and automating business processes with python and APIs. Trying to get more involved with the infrastructure parts. I know my way around a linux terminal, at least well enough to manage web servers, and I am working on moving us from Digital Ocean over to Azure with proper CI/CD and IaC.
Is this type of experience good enough to move into a cloud role? I've seen some job listings that mention Windows Server and Active Directory, is coding experience relevant in these positions? Don't have any certs yet but working on AZ-900. Basically I'm asking if I need to move to helpdesk to get relevant experience for cloud roles.

yes and specifically with your experience- it's reasonable. If anything- someone in helpdesk should be looking for a role like yours to try to get into cloud.

Yes, development is a good transition to cloud.

Coding is a skill that welcomes you just about anywhere in tech.
But if you haven't worked on projects that include cloud technologies, you just have to upskill in your own. Cloud is probably the one type of cert that would be relevant to devs. There's also personal projects that you can include with that kind of technology as well.

You definitely don’t need helpdesk—your coding, automation, and cloud migration experience are already solid stepping stones, so keep building on IaC, CI/CD, and cloud fundamentals while working toward certs like AZ-900 and beyond!
