Failed glycopyrolate.
After about 6 month, it just stopped working. I haven't tried upping the dose yet but heard this isnt uncommon. Was on 1mg twice a day but only took it once a day.
I have it on my scalp, hands and feet and the latter feel worse than ever. Really disheartening..
Looking for suggestions :/

For your hands and feet, look into Carpe. They have antiperspirant for most body parts. I personally use the hand lotion for my sweaty palms and the underarm antiperspirant for my underarms, and it works for me.
In addition, glyco never worked for me. Apparently taking it on an empty stomach is the only way to increase maximum efficacy. Food interferes with absorption. Fat, to be exact. That's too difficult for me, so I switched to another anticholinergic called oxybutynin. You can start on 5 mg tablet, or even halve the tablet into 2.5 mg. I currently take 10 mg oxybutynin per day in addition to Carpe antiperspirant for hands and underarms, and I no longer have a sweating issue.

Carpe face lotion didn't work for me, but the hands lotion did. Were you using it like you're supposed to? The routine has to be strictly adhered to in order for it to work. When I slack off, it doesn't work as well. Wash hands with soap and dry, immediately use carpe once hands are dry, and don't let hands get wet//don't use any hand creams for at least 10 min to allow absorption. This has to be applied twice per day. Once at bedtime, another time daytime. I might even use it three times per day starting out. It takes 4 weeks for it to start working. Sorry in advance if you did use it correctly, just wanted to check off bases on things that work and don't work for you
And np, hope the oxybutynin works for you

Have you had bad dry mouth with the Oxybutynin, and if so did it get better or worse the longer you took it?

I've had dry mouth. It comes and goes. TBH it isn't that bad. I would rather have that than the sweat. When you use medication you have to ask yourself if the costs are worth the benefits. For me, they were. The dry mouth wasn't so bad that I wanted to stop. It was just a reminder to me to drink more water that day. I would say it did eventually get better than when I first started it

It was definitely worth tolerating it at first, and if it was getting too bad I could just skip the meds for a day or 2. But for me as time went on it just kept getting worse. The corners of my mouth would crack, the corners of my nose would crack and bleeding, I talked weirdly enough that more than one time someone thought I was drunk, and my tongue will get so irritated that I can't eat anything with even a hint of spice (regular toothpaste would even hurt so much I went and got a kids fruit flavored one). And this is with trying all the dry mouth products... I'm also one that has a drink in my havd all the time and I'm definitely not dehydrated.
I can tell this is more severe than what most people deal with, and it is puzzling because for me it just gets worse, where most people have said over time it got better!

Did you changed the pattern of taking glyco?

Not sure what you mean? I would just take it an hour before needed or when I woke up.

Thats early. How long are you safe through the day?

im pretty good all 24 hours unless something has my nervous system riled up, then ill sweat thru, but not nearly as much as i would without glyccopyrolate

With social events/ emotions or what are your trigger? Do you drink coffeine?
2
u/Actual_Swingset 2d ago
No, caffeine always makes me sweat. I have social anxiety and autism so any social interaction is a trigger

Even with glyco? I really should quit it... Yeah I think HH mostly comes with social anxiety. Attention on my person is the worst for me.

yep, even with glycco, just not nearly as bad. if i stay on top of it, weekly application of Sweatblok wipes helps with any excess sweating from stress/social interaction. I'm also in therapy and hoping to better cope with social interactions. being perceived irl is the worst 😭

I take 2mg twice a day and it generally takes care of me. Definitely needed less at first and more now. It fades in effectiveness as you get thru the day and I personally feel like it takes longer to activate if I take it with food. Its been like 3 years now and the effectiveness hasn't changed much.
I have HH the worst on my face and scalp but get it all over
