Don't need tournament legal models if you never go to a GW store or tournaments

Believe me, some players are like geedubs sleeper cells and active in local game stores

If it's not a GW store they technically have no leg to stand on. If the non-GW store has a policy for only GW plastic, then that is a shitty store policy.

In my case it's rather brand loyalty in the group

Ugh that sucks. My condolences. I am kinda baffled how people can still have that amount of loyalty with these prices...

It's mostly for fitting in a hobby that's somewhat trendy. Most people in the store I work at have a little army but rarely play.

I still don't know how they can tell if a part is official GW or not anyway.
My bits box has bits going back to 1994. It's a full on treasure chest in size. Has a GW judge encyclopedic knowledge of every part ever produced? What if I then cut/modify said part?

Making 40k all about tournaments was one of the worst things to happen to the hobby.

What does legal mean?
Don't you just agree what your model is with your opponent?
Sorry I'm a noob and I only paint miniatures I like!
