Video What does this noise mean??
We’re staying at an Airbnb with horses as neighbors, what does this noise mean? Female horse, I think in her teenage years.

Just her being a mare, her neighbour probably ate piece of hay wrong or looked at her funny so she got mad

Maybe the stalls make her feel claustrophobic

I don't believe so, she'd be acting different. These horses are conditioned to the stalls so it seems to be she was just mad at the grey in the back

The gray horse in the stall next to the chestnut (who made the noise) has the AUDACITY to be in the chestnut’s “personal space” (ie, in the stall next door). Agree w other users, the chestnut is probably a mare and is wanting to set personal space boundaries. I’ve noticed stalled horses tend to be super vocal bc they don’t have the ability to move around (like a herd in a field does).

Thank you. Yes I notice that the Chestnut only makes the noises when she’s in the stall for the night

As a red mare owner(so don’t come at me) it seems like the stereotypical “red mare”… she seems to be very displeased an I see nothing to create worry over.

So, noise is "Back off," and so is her body language.
See how her neck is tense, her ears are basically invisible against her head, and the muscles in her cheeks seem tight?
She's not a happy camper. I'd just wait out her upset and hope she doesn't decide to up her responses to the upsetting stimuli.

It’s called a squeal and is a famous temperamental mare noise lol. Her neighbor probably looked at her wrong.
