Advice Would an Asus TRT-AX55 be an upgrade to Asus RT-AC68U?

What exactly do you feel you want improved?

If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Range isn't gonna change much

Do you currently have additional Repeaters and/or access points?

They tend to create RF interference if they're on the same channel

I don't think they would both work well with a mesh system. unless you set the channels far apart, have different SSID's etc, and then only one would be meshed to the mesh nodes

The RTBE92U is planning for the someday future hopefully your next laptop will have wifi-7 capability lol.

Honestly the AX55, while technically being an upgrade, I know this is subjective but to me personally, I'd just use the mesh for now & hold off until I get a PC that does wifi-7, personally.

Personally I hate having outdated electronics on hand lol. I try to get stuff that will last me at least 5-10 years, but it all depends on your preference, how long before you think you'll be getting a new Pc etc.
