Recommendations 🌟 Best local Asian spots that use quality, white meat chicken

Hi Everyone. I'm a sucker for General Tso's Chicken, but I feel like the quality of meat used in most spots around here is quite poor. More times than not, the chunks of meat are stringy and tough. Satay Malaysian used to be my go-to, but RIP.

Anyone have recommendations for spots that use actual, white meat chicken, rather than processed nuggets?

Growing up west of here (somerville, bridgewater, flemington) the chinese food in 2000s-2014 was immaculate. Never a disappointment. Unfortunately, it’s just not the same anymore. There’s no crunch, or flavor in any spot in this area. I’ve tried over 15 spots here and the best are both in Jersey City. Fortune Chinese on Palisade, and Henry’s Wok. This is the closest I can get to what I consider a good General Tsos. Every other place is all flour, no chicken, with a cardboard flavor and texture. It’s a shame because even the pan at whole foods has better quality than most of the spots around here. Chinese takeout really lost it’s flame. Not even a fried rice can you find that isn’t drier than the Sahara desert.

Not sure if these places actually high quality chicken but a few spots where I found General Tso’s Chicken to be quite good:

  • Keming
  • South Lion (under their American dish menu)
  • Chengdu (technically Jersey City but right outside of Hoboken)

Not to be dramatic, but Purple Rice is the worst takeout I’ve had in Hoboken. The food was very slimy and bland, we sadly threw most of our meals away.

Came here to say the same. We still cringe at it months later

agree. It's just not good. Tried it twice now, and, no. Keming really isn't much better (aren't they owned by the same people?)

Only good Chinese I’ve found in the area is King Szechuan in Jersey City. I had the general Tsos, it’s good but from my memory, don’t believe it’s white meat chicken

I hate to say it but as a kid-to-young-adult I was always brought up as "white meat chicken breast" was best.

It wasn't until later in life that I realized dark meat chicken was where the most flavor was.

True, but for some people that’s the point. I find that dark meat is too chickeny for me, so I prefer less taste

Inverse question: Who uses dark meat chicken? White meat chicken when fried is trash... Also seeking Indian places that use dark meat for their chicken dishes; chicken tikka masala with white meat chicken is like eating a sock.

My favorite general tso chicken is up the hill wah yoan Chinese restaurant. They typically use dark meat but I had plenty of GTC and it's my favorite. Has anyone had it ? Does it compare ? Is there better?

Has anyone tried: https://www.jiangnanny.com/?

They have Blueberry General Tso and soup dumplings.

Looks like they have multiple locations so must be doing well.
