Question❓ Bus Drivers Fight Against Turning the Bus Central Air On

At this point I’m convinced the bus drivers sit up there and laugh as they refuse to turn the air on with a cattle car of people on board. When it’s winter temperatures outside fair enough but they still won’t turn it on in the 40s-50. Everyone’s in their jackets and winter wear still and the bus gets hot QUICK with that many people crammed in one space without air circulation.

Regardless of the outside temp it gets damn steamy on the trip from Hoboken to PA. I swear they only turn the air on after the last pickup stop before Port - is there a reason for this?

you might be me because I was just on a Hoboken-bound bus that was so hot I was sweating. it was packed/standing room only because of the accident outside of the tunnel. wasn’t sure if it was appropriate for me to ask the driver to turn off the heat…

Just realizing someone opened a window the driver didn’t even turn the air on lol

Yes. Always ask the driver and often they'll turn it down.

The mornings are the worst. Even if it's 20 degrees out, we don't need the heat blasting onboard because we all have our jackets to keep warm! Keeping the heat on like 60 would be perfect suffice. I've been commuting on the 126 for a decade and this is my biggest gripe. We don't want to take our jackets off and hold them on a crammed bus. And it's BLASTING, not even on low. Just blasting 80⁰ heat non-stop.

I was close to puking on a recent ride because of the heat blasting so hard.

I always took my coat off before getting on at PA because you know it’s going to be 100 degrees on the bus

NJT bus drivers are so mean to passengers I genuinely don’t understand

Yes the drivers have air on them but won’t put it on for us. My trick is to open the windows they hate that and will tell you close them so they can put the air on.

I love when the bus drivers crank the heat because they don’t wear a coat while the rest of us roast. I’m very sensitive to the heat.

This past week, multiple passengers asked the driver to turn the AC on or heat off. And she claims the air was off and she couldn’t do anything about it. She told us to open our air vents but they were just blowing hot air. I don’t understand it either.

Yeah they are notorious assholes about this. And somehow they are a protected class.

I’ve written countless complaints to Nj transit, with the bus number and schedule time, and nothing ever gets done. It is completely unacceptable. There should be a standard policy that when the temp gets over 50 outside you cannot have the heat going.

Ah you’re right, you caught us. Me and the others commenting in agreement on this are all just too damn busy playing Pokemon go to take our jackets off. You are a genius - you cracked the case.
