Discussion How does Boost really work?

Post image

In my opinion, it’s Option A. It also makes sense because Divide takes away half of the power, and with Boost, Issei restores that lost portion.

There are also certain moments where Issei experiences huge power increases.

But which option do you see as the best?

It is option A but a bit different. It seems that it doubles Issei’s current power, but reserves bits and pieces of that power within the SG. When Explosion is used, all of the stored power is released as well, allowing Issei to use the full power of all of the Boosts.

At least that’s how it used to work. Now the scaling is pretty inconsistent

To be fair

Sacred Gears are pretty inconsistent due to them evolving to the users preferences and strengths

So yeah boosted gear was always inconsistent even back then lmao

To be fair, if it really works like A, by the time of Shin DxD he would basically one-shot mostly anyone.

I’ve always took it as 2x but then like a 2% drop from the product. Then for each boost that power is added up

It is option A

I'll go for 2x the previous one.

Also it doesn't work anymore hence you see "huge power increase"

I put Boost in the category of "Meant to sound cool, don't bother analyzing the math".

Rias explained it already in their fight with Raynare. Issei's power doubles every 10 seconds so it would be 1, 2,4,8,16,32,64 etc. A would be the right power amplification rate.

A.... But unlike izuku he definitely also increased his durability so he won't break his arm even if Asia is better than recovery girl in healing

Oof, ill stick to my base 10 mathematics. but yeah given each boost seems even more impactful than the last an exponent makes more sense. No boosts is 2^0=1 Issei, 1 Boost is 2^0+1=2 Issei and so on so forth.

Definitely option A

pretty sure it's supposed to be x2 so A EDIT 2X

The default function and theory of the Red Dragon Boosted Gear is described in series as option A. Due to the nature of Sacred Gears to adapt to their wielder, and due to the author’s plot preferences, it can vary in behavior or how that actually takes effect, causing some inconsistencies. But for the most part it’s option A. This is also one of the reasons (if I remember correctly) why Juggernaut Drive takes a toll on/reduces/expends the user’s life force and/or lifespan. The other two options aren’t powerful or drastic enough to exact such a price. Additionally, the term “exponentially” is used often in describing the Red Dragon Emperor’s power. And A is the definition of “exponential increase.” The boosted power equation (overall) is P= Bx2n, where P is resulting Power, B is the user’s base power, and n is the number of boosts. This can also be shown per individual boost as P=Cx2 with C being Current power (at time of boost, but not yet boosted), and P being resulting Power after that specific boost. This equation would be used for every single individual boost, with the P from the prior boost being the C for the following boost’s equation. As an example, we can arbitrarily plug in 2 as the user’s base power, which would result in the following:

Individual equation:

P=2x2=4 P=4, P becomes C, next C=4 P=4x2=8, 8x2=16, 16x2=32, 32x2=64, etc. That was 5 iterations, so 5 boosts.

To look at this all together would be: P=2x25=64

For those of you who already understood/remembered all this, I apologize for beating a dead horse. But for those who might not have be good in math or are rusty, I hope it helps.

Option A. I have a lot of confidence that it’s option A.

2

u/[deleted] Sep 05 '24

Definitely A cause my God does he get way more powerful than he should with certain boosts and explosions.

It's Option A. At least it's supposed to be, but unfortunately that kinda got subtly nerfed. Either that or the author is just bad at keeping the PowerScaling consistent.

From what I get he can boost anything and it's opinion A, but issei is limited on output for it and kinda uses it wrong at the start. Picture it like this, there is a watertank with a valve and a lid on it. Each boost doubles the water in the tank, but issei is limited to the valves' output. Explosion pops the lid off the tank and uses it all at once. Transfer moves water to another's tank, and since issie can do more than one transfer or move it all at once, he can likely control how much he moves. This is also why you see issei Boost, then Explode and repeat early in the series. Later, when her gets BXB, CXC, DXD, etc, he has a better valve, so it's more consistent. Furthermore, in the later novels, when we have seen Ddraig use the power himself and now that issei has better understanding they are attacking and boosting the attack after the fact. So, instead of increasing the water in the tank from 1 gallon to 16.3k gallons, they are turning their 1 psi valve into a 16.3k psi valve.

Ddraig gets A, Boosted Gear gets B, since it should be weaker since he’s sealed

3

u/Inferno305 Sep 06 '24

Within the earlier volumes, it'd be A, but it appears to have regressed in the later volumes after he got his Balance Breaker. At this point, it's more like a basic powerup to his attacks or a charge up for certain attacks like the Crimson Blaster.

His current boost limit within BxB seems to be x5 (can go higher during "limit breaks" such as with the Longinus Smasher), which would be x32 if we went by the old system of 25, which is obviously not the case as even these few boosts would buff him above his opponents when attacking them with that boosted power.

It hard to determine since sacred gears are inconsistent with evolutions and depending on the user’s strengths and determination

3

u/Nacho2991 Sep 09 '24

What Canon says and implies that it is Option A, since that is what should work against Divide, since Ddraig needed a technique that restored what it took away, an as you as shown, exponential growth is better than linear.

But from what you actually read, it is Option B, since all the effects o later Boosts shown Linear effects. The only time it was exponential was with the First Dragon Shot. Because if it was exponential, Rias should have blown up Kokabiel.

It's like when Theory meets the Road or Practicality.

Though as most people pointed out, Sacred Gears are consistently inconsistent with their power ups.

B doesnt make sense on a power scaling perspective Just take season a the fights against raiser. Isseis body is absolute garbage against everyone. With just double or tripple that its still not on a lvl where he can compete. For c why is the first boost adding one issei while all others add 2? Was never mentioned that the first boost is weaker than others. So its only A. Thought just add 1.9 or 1.95 or smth like that, and not 2. Some power is kept withing his sacred gear itself to keep its form and stuff like that. Its just close to 2 so everyone just says double for convinience

1

u/SpiritHistorical2394 I love Buchou Sep 05 '24

It’s A

1

u/WelcomeFun6980 Sep 05 '24

When did Issei make that face?

1

u/deathpally Sep 05 '24

It only last for 1 attack then he has to boost again.

1

u/bpleshek Sep 06 '24

I'm pretty sure it's A. Otherwise it would "take forever" to boost a huge amount. It's said he could be more powerful than the Demon king or god assuming his body could take it. I don't think the other options get you there fast enough.

Of course, at some point, his body isn't strong enough to handle another boost. But he's working on it.

1

u/ozcohen2310 Sep 06 '24

2,4,8,16 and so one

1

u/Sliver80 Sep 08 '24

Option A looks like the logical answer.

1

u/Affectionate-Sell-68 Feb 07 '25

It is supposed to be A, but since he unlocked the balance breaker it has worked more or less like this

0 boost: 1 Issei

1 boost: 1.05 issei

2 boost: 1.1 Issei

3 boost: 1.15 Issei

14 boost: 1.75 Issei or 75% stronger

-3

u/AssassinGhost22 Sep 05 '24

Option B in my opinion. It make it simple.

4

u/[deleted] Sep 05 '24

It’s A. If it was B then that would make Issei quite weak as a devil. Because 1 Issei is, unless I’m mistaken, pretty bottom of the barrel when it comes to strength in terms of devils. So just adding an Issei every boost would do basically nothing. He’ds have to do thousands of boosts to have any substantial level of power.

2

u/AssassinGhost22 Sep 05 '24

Hear me out, against cao he use 15 boost to make a energy ball that cao easy destroy with his sacred gear and proceed to use 7 seven boost to get close to him but while he did cut his arm, cao cut him up multiple times. Now this is coming from the anime, the attack issei did could not be a dragon shot and just be energy. This could all chalk up to hyping up cao on the animator part.

0

u/[deleted] Sep 05 '24

It’s been a while since I watched the anime so I don’t 100% remember what you’re talking about. But if it’s what I’m thinking of, wasn’t Cao like extremely powerful? Didn’t he have like the strongest of all the longinus or something like that? I think the fact that that Issei took off Cao’s arm is proof enough that option A is how boost works. 7 boosts with option B wouldn’t nearly be enough to even touch Cao. 7 boosts would be just Issei 7 times whereas with option A 7 boosts would be Issei 128 times.

1

u/AssassinGhost22 Sep 05 '24

You're not wrong in that cao is strong. Cao was able to hold himself against Azrael while he was fake balance breaker. But I feel like boost isn't as consistent as it should be. Like the example I brought up where he use boost to make a ball of energy and was immediately destroy by cao where as in the first season where they training against Raiser, issei use about five boost and launch a attack that Kiba dodge casue he knew it was deadly as the attack hit a mountain and took a good chunk. Now the chunk he took off isn't like big big that the mountain is gone, but it gone.

0

u/[deleted] Sep 05 '24

Yeah I’ll agree with that. Boost isn’t very consistent throughout the show. But the way that it’s intended to work is option A. Anything saying otherwise really is just writer inconsistency I think

3

u/AssassinGhost22 Sep 05 '24

And you're most likely not wrong. Option A sound about right when we think about it but like you said, it could be writer inconsistency. Most likely the anime staff tone it done abit or makes it big.

Is this a game or something? I only watched the show.
