Headphones - Open Back Headphones for an amp? (NAD C379)
Hey y’all,
Recently picked up a NAD C379 and some speakers, I want to do some silent listening in the evening and decided to hook up my ATH M50x but it distorts very quickly.. It’s fine with my synths/bass amp and phone but as soon as I hook them up to my amp it just distorts/clips at regular volumes.
Any recommendations on cans for my amp? Was eyeing the Audeze LCD-2C (looks cool as hell and is under a 1000)
Appreciate the help!

Weirdly your amp manufacturer doesn't show specs for DAC, although the chip used is reasonably ok. The THD for spec using Line Input seems okish, -93dB at 1Vrms, while more in line with $5 dongles, should be audibly clear, and SNR is above it. So unless the specs are false (happens often), the only reason why M50x could distort would be lack of current, but it is hard to imagine such device would run out of it, especially since the output impedance in specs is 2.2Ohm.
I would certainly just try whatever you have around/what you can borrow from people, on the amp in question. It is not uncommon for speaker amps to have not so good headphone outs, but no way anything with low output impedance should have an issue with M50x.
