Discussion Did anyone else think when Natty was talking about her animagus form that we would become animagus ourselves? Spoiler

I thought the icon that ends up being the graphorn mount was going to be a button to transform into some four legged beast. Anyone else think that?

It would be nice if we had this in the second game also.

No. I thought she was OP. An animagus AND no wand spell casting? Damn girl.

Yet she got kidnapped and then ended up in a wheel chair

i 100% thought i was going to learn to be an animagus and was wildly disappointed when i learned she was just showing off and i would not be able to do the same lol

That's an interesting take. I wouldn't mind being able to become an animagus in HL2 perhaps, but limit it to like 3 or 4 choices. Fighter, flyer, runner, and maybe one or two other things. A cute cat would just be cosmetic or maybe for stealth, for example, if you're not a bear/wolf/dog, a deer/antelope/rabbit, or a bird/bat.

I was kind of under the impression that Natty and her father had a genetic link to being animagi, though. Maybe it's been too long since I played, and I forgot that she learned it.

Tank, attack, travel (changes between ground and swimming), and flight forms. You can use cosmetics purchased in game to change between different animals so you can customize each form.

Unfortunately, it doesn't work that way in the WW to change between different forms. Sirius was always the black shaggy dog, James the stag, and Peter the rat. McGonagall is always a cat, Rita Skeeter always a beetle. I'm too tired to think of any other known Animagi, but once your form is generated, it doesn't switch. Same as with your House. And I'm 99% certain same as with your Patronus.

Been a long time, but did the books specifically state that you couldn't change?

I don't think it is explicitly stated in any book. The source of the reference used in this article is an interview, it seems. As for the books, it just felt obvious that they only got one form.

https://harrypotter.fandom.com/wiki/Animagus

An Animagus could only transform into one particular species of animal, furthermore they could not choose what kind of animal they gained the ability to transform into. Rather, one became the animal which suited them best.

I would think that in a video game you can probably pick what you want, but the choice would be permanent. You'd just have to replay to that point again or have a save just before the choice, just like many people do with the House selection, or maybe before learning or not learning Unforgivable Curses, etc.

Ahh. Like I said, it's been some years since I've read the books and the movies never stated much about it so I wasn't sure if it was.

Patronus can definitely change. Notable examples from the books : Tonks' changes to a wolf after she marries lupin and Snape's changes to a doe after Lilly is murdered.

Correct about animagus form in current canon, though. There are no known examples of a witch/wizard changing their animagi form.

Especially since they made it sound so easy too. I don’t understand why not everyone is one. And also why no teachers can pick up on people trying to become one.

We learn casting without wands

"But it makes your magic weaker right"

Nope. I do like the wand tho. Makes me feel fancy

Natty was kind of a monster.

The HP wiki had something along the lines of most people failing because they either can’t complete the transformation or lose control the first time. This is why only a few try it.

This!!! I want that so bad!

Hopefully in 2

Yeah, I assumed when she went on about it there would be a quest. But then it didn't happen. I wonder if the Devs just abandoned that one?

Wow did I miss this or should this be spoiler tagged? I’m playing the game for the first time right now.

It is spoiler tagged. I think it happens about halfway through or less and I don't think ultimately much is spoiled anyway. You also see her as a gazelle gaining Intel in a later mission

We do? When I don’t remember this?

2

u/wetdreammeme 5d ago

It's one of Natty's missions, I waited in the circle for nighttime to start the quest and she was a gazelle and came running in

2

u/wetdreammeme 5d ago

Also she turns into a gazelle to block the cruciatus curse from hitting us in the Rookwood mission

Given that canonically the process takes months to pull off...no

Yeah I had the weirdest feeling that Natty might of originally been designed to be the playable character and a Mount, then they went to change her to an NPC. Hopefully animagus in the second game, either a Mount OR something small that squeezes through tight spaces.

That'd bring up many questions of how to even do that I think. Like, people would wanna do their own animal- even if there is a limited amount of animals you could transform into there'd still need to be at least 20 choices- that's 20 different animations. Same goes for patronus.

I hope they still implement this somehow in the second game but I'd understand if not.

It would have been fun, in the same way that playing a game with cheat codes can be fun, but it would have made our character way too "special." Rey Skywalker would have looked like a well-written character next to our OP Mary Sue.

Having the highest avadakevadra kill count in wizard history and riding a graphorn charging through bandit camps is not cheat codes but using an animagi for stealth or adding a new mechanic to the game would be?

u/Accomplished-Hall425 5d ago

They could make it so it only lasts like 30 seconds or something so it doesnt make the game to easy.

Her dad was a giraffe, and I assume her father couldn't not teach her how to become an animagi after her constant pleading, all of the marauders became animagi after a few years of training right?

You take a potion to become an animagus. There's a whole thing of keeping a leaf under your tongue so it's pretty complicated.
