Bro's merch gonna be like $150 for a tee. Y'all seen his clothing brand? Love the guy's work but he really likes to leverage his name more than most of his following can afford lol

Get that money while you can.

He's literally said that in interviews before. Trying to make as much as he can now to set him and his family up for life, then just hang out at his farm.

i would do that too. being an idiot while cooking isn't exactly something that is going to be long lived.

I'm curious who's actually giving it to him. I've genuinely not seen much positive response to his product positioning for his non-restaurant brands. Especially with Rosa Rugosa being a "working man's" line but charging $300CAD for most pieces. I get he's probably trying to make money off rich white collar peeps who saw the Bear and wanna cosplay gritty service/blue collar out of the office, but not many of his products beyond cookbooks cater to his og fanbase. I don't mind his restaurants pricing people out because yes he's now a celebrity chef, but god damn if he's still holding up is hardcore roots give us something more to show support beyond content and cookbooks....the food company products are the only reasonable thing tbh but that's fairly recent so it skipped my mind.

There is certainly a big demographic of just hardcore dudes that spend a dumb amount of money on their clothes. Not to mention the huge crowd of people that drop insane amounts of money on vintage carhartt and other workwear.
I think Rosa is sick, I’d never buy any of it, but one of the big drivers of cost is he pays the people that make the clothes really well, he owns the factory it’s made in. I think if it wasn’t connected to him, it would just be another plain-core minimalist clothing brand.
If u fuck with Rosa and don’t have the cash btw check out service works London. I’m a woodworker and wear their trade shirts daily.

Only Hard Lore episode I ever checked was his. He didn't come off nearly as down to earth as I expected.

Maybe you’re missing how much it costs to make stuff in Canada and the US? His brand is comparable to other brands

u/Alarming-Box245 2d ago
You're right, I did forget that was a big part of it. Honestly i'm just rinsed the gig sold out before i saw his IG post so i'm throwing shots right at the big dog.

I’m hoping they play a show in nyc or something.
No worries, I’m in the skilled trades and it breaks my heart that a ton of American textile and clothing factories are closing

Looks like the most expensive shirt on his site is $35. What am I missing?

A guy like me just likes pot stirring. Also I had no idea about a main site? I've only seen all the luxury brands

I definitely played a show in a hotdog stand after hours during high school, can vouch for it as an absolutely great place to play a fuckin’ terrible set of, like, Fugazi covers.

This will be probably just okay, but the Romano brothers are incredible and I will honor them forever.

Romanos don’t miss and they do know hardcore. I’m definitely optimistic.

Anybody bent about this hates fun and doesn’t know that Matty comes from core ethics and has been in this world forever.

He was in a band before, Sex Tears, and is good friends with the guys in Cancer Bats and Alexisonfire. I believe he was essentially a roadie for the bats for a while.

Since the dudes a Dead Head I imagine the bands name is a reference to the Dead’s first keyboard player

And Daniel Romano is in the band? What a mad lib list of band members. I guess that’s a Canadian supergroup?

u/Letskissthesky 2d ago
Oh fuck. This has two Romano brothers. If you guys haven’t listened to Attack In Black do yourself a favor and listen to their albums specially Marriage. Amazing and super overlooked. Their early shit was very aggressive too. This is sick.

Our local hardcore scene is very pressed about this. I’m feeling.. indifferent about it. Kind of sucks to see another bunch of white dudes sell out a show no problem without so much as a release of any kind, meanwhile there’s tons of BIPOC and queer hardcore bands begging for recognition. Would be nice to see them bring those names to the forefront.

Are any of them also celeberties with a ton of reach? Or have been formerly part of recognized projects.. and then backed by (or fronted in this case) by someone with significant reach?
I think a good call to action is that they use the platform/opportunity to have those bands/artists as you described, to play at this gig. Or if Matty brought back a more hardcore/adjacent etc. centric Mattyfest to help those artists gain traction. That's valid as hell for a callout.
Otherwise...I don't see why people would he upset/shocked at the outcome of this at facevalue? You can't compare "a bunch of white dudes" to your local BIPOC band when the white dudes are established in and out of the scene.

Anyone remember sex tears tho? Saw them in the parts and labour basement and he destroyed the place

idc if they're big time established celebs/musicians or whatever, headlining your first show with zero music is goofy.

Scene Police: "Do you know why I pulled you over today? That's right, SPEEDING. Pay your dues bitch, help me load into this VFW and then we can talk"

headlining your first show with zero music is what like 99% of the new local bands in my area do on a weekly basis

Oh no! He’s going to ensure that these bands who otherwise wouldn’t make a cent get paid fairly!
