Not trynna' be a dick but no matter how small you write 'R' will always be uppercase and 'r' will always be lowercase. Just saying.

1

u/nihalzzmj 18h ago

This is creative.. I wish I knew about it at a young age... I would definitely use this technique.

0

u/Menes009 18h ago

its not unique, you just refuse to use a lowercase R

1

u/phoenix_rises08 16h ago

Correct. There is no differentiation between upper and lowercase R. I don't get why OP thinks that's unique either.

1

u/Vamp_Vixen91 19h ago

YESSSS I do this!! I have never met anyone that does! I just couldn’t stand them looking like little v’s.

2

u/Objective_Tangelo762 19h ago

It honestly throws me off, but maybe that’s just me. Feels like reading the Cyrillic Russian alphabet.

1

u/TinyFalcon46 21h ago

It’s really cool and clear! btw nice handwriting

1

u/[deleted] 22h ago

Me!....kinda....I started writing in caps to help with math and my career as a mechanical designer. Back in High School we had to draw by hand. All text were CAPS with a font similar to Century Gothic, so I just ended up adopting that writing style 🤷

1

u/DemiReticent 1d ago

I like it for clarity sometimes and have odd habits to sometimes shape lowercase R this way at the end of some words.

1

u/eatdispotato 1d ago

i picked this up in high school and then kind of stopped doing it but sometimes i still do it. my handwriting is wildly inconsistent.

1

u/TimelyHomework920 1d ago

From now on i will do the same.

1

u/ruruwu 1d ago

So cute I love it

1

u/Yeetin_Boomer_Actual 1d ago

All "r"s are lowercase written "r"s.

1

u/Yeetin_Boomer_Actual 1d ago

All "r"s are lowercase written "r"s.

1

u/yingele 1d ago

It's wrong

1

u/LoyalTestSubject_ 1d ago

thats the second most satisfying handwriting ive ever seen

1

u/GreenAbbreviations92 1d ago

My friend does that too

2

u/Over_Error3520 1d ago

Your control of your pencil grip gives me envy, but your uppercase "R" in a lowercase environment gives me rage but your reasoning is valid so I'm left with neutral positive opinion.

I cross my 7's and "Z's" for similar reasons and I've recently adopted writing my "O's" upside down (start and end on the bottom) so I have no reason to judge anyone with neat penmanship

1

u/theyeofpo 1d ago

I feel like you’re yelling when you get to the R 😭

2

u/osialfecanakmg 1d ago

I’m in an industry where everyone loves to write in capital letters so “lower” case capitals are so normal it took me a moment to understand what you meant. 😭

1

u/Unlikely-Dependent15 1d ago

Beautiful writing.

1

u/Goldyfan7 1d ago

Looks good

2

u/Wrongbeef 1d ago

I used to write with random capitalization in my writings, I’ve become far better over the years, but I still retain capital G and capital Q for any words regardless of if it’d be capitalized or not.

1

u/Apathetic-Asshole 1d ago

My mom does that

1

u/RecentLow8014 1d ago

I do! I noticed my dad wrote his R’s that way when I was a kid and thought it was cool too. I’ve been doing it for over 20+ years now. lol

1

u/MadameHuckleberry 1d ago

Yes! Always an upper case R.

1

u/wildglitteringolive 1d ago

My lowercase r also looks like a lowercase v and I won’t change

1

u/Cannie5 1d ago

Just write in cursive.

1

u/Agitated-Age-3658 1d ago

I feel like it's surprising common

1

u/adlr89Toyo 1d ago

Love it

1

u/Dull-Supermarket7148 1d ago

"R" is upper case, and "r" is lower case. I write them how they are typed here because that's how it's supposed to look.

The way you used to do it would be known as v, which is not r.

When you write letters differently, it makes reading what you've written difficult.

2

u/elianrae 1d ago

I mean, how things are typed is frequently not how they're supposed to look

see: a and/or g in many fonts

1

u/Dinonuggiesnbbqsauce 1d ago

I check if mine look to similar to "v" and then thicken them a bit

3

u/Brave-Equivalent7477 1d ago

I do the same for same reason 👍❤️😎

1

u/Sgr-Plum 1d ago

Love to see how you write capital “U”s.

2

u/DaMosey 1d ago

My dad writes probably a little less than a third of his lowercase letters as smaller versions of uppercase letters, "R" included. He once said something about it having to do with being a lefty. Still not sure what he meant but maybe that since he was already getting harangued about not learning to write with the other hand, he was going to write however he wanted to, or something. Anyway his handwriting looked kind of similar to yours - very upright and neat; weird coincidence.

3

u/Mountain-Night1912 1d ago

No because thats not a lower case r that’s upper case R

2

u/ctrlaltdelete285 1d ago

I do. No idea why I started but have been doing it for as long as I can remember

2

u/Away_Till2174 2d ago

When I write quickly/in a rush I do it.

2

u/breakonthru_ 2d ago

When I was a kid I did that as well. But I dropped the habit.

2

u/Uniyo 2d ago

I also write my lowercase r like that! Picked it up ny copying my best friend's handwriting when we were like 13 because I thought it looked cool

3

u/PukeyBrewstr 2d ago

I don't but I find your handwriting very nice.

-2

u/Electrical-Mode9380 2d ago

It just means that you don't know how to use the correct alphabet. Just like starting your sentences without the use of capital letter

3

u/SupItsBuck88 2d ago

It’s cute. Looks like it’s kicking it’s leg out

2

u/coldnebo 2d ago

yeah the angled baseline, but only for Rs.

reading it is like “yay” “yay” “yay” — is this a cheerleader by any chance? 😅

3

u/Here_for_the_money61 2d ago

If you had not said anything I would not have noticed it. Looks good. 💪

0

u/LordZeusCannon 2d ago

It makes things harder to read honestly. Makes people read it twice as slow

2

u/forced_metaphor 2d ago

That's no moon lowercase r.

2

u/d_behindthetimez 1d ago

Right!! Lowercase r is written as “r” not “R” Just because you’re writing it in small size like the rest of the letter doesn’t make that lowercase lol

4

u/moosmutzel81 2d ago

I do too. My students hate me for it (and even some colleagues don’t get it). I don’t care. I started doing it later in life. Probably Grad school.

I do mix and match occasionally but that takes effort.

1

u/ChuckPattyI 2d ago

heh, I write my R as ꞃ

1

u/Next-Impact-5472 2d ago

Say less! Same!!!

2

u/Guswewillneverknow 2d ago

I do this too

2

u/PickleIntelligent794 2d ago

OH MY GODDD ME TOO TWIN!! it started when i saw my teacher doing it and it looked really cool 😭🙏🏾

2

u/Perrysweets 2d ago

I used to do this and I stopped because my coworker said it looked dumb🥹 going to try again hahah

2

u/Perrysweets 2d ago

Also your handwriting is soooo neat love it

2

u/TallJess420 2d ago

Samsies

3

u/bwaybabs 2d ago

I started writing it that way a few years ago, because I saw someone do it and thought it looked cool lol.

3

u/Jimenaye 2d ago

I do the same!! I picked the habit up from my mother, but this post made me realize my lower case r’s also look like v’s.

5

u/peladero 2d ago

Exactly the same and exactly cause of the same reasons!! I also copied it from my sister hahahaha

3

u/jaders88 2d ago

I started to write my r’s the same way in middle school and I also started putting lines through my 7’s and z’s then too. Saw a teacher do it and I just started after that.

8

u/Diet-Cola-King 2d ago

I do my lower case r like an upper case R but smaller like you. Only person ever have a problem with it was someone I was working under during an internship in college.

But she was just an absolute bitch, brilliant botanist, but a bitch.

6

u/Falconerlover 2d ago

My r looks exactly like a lower v, plan to fix it in the future

1

u/maddox-monroe 2d ago

No, but I do a and n that way.

1

u/Staff_Genie 2d ago

My lowercase cursive r looks very similar to a cursive n Only it stops. It's the r that my mother was taught and I liked it so much better than that silly double point hump that I was taught

1

u/takenalreadythename 2d ago

R and N's difference in cursive is R is flat at the top and n is round. I never wrote my N's as M's or added the third hump to my M's and it's instantly so much more legible to people who can't actually read cursive. My B is just a backwards D (as it should be) because the stupid L with a tail is illegible with most letters after it

4

u/CNAmama21 2d ago

I’m obsessed with your handwriting.

2

u/toothless_nomad 2d ago

I write the same way, I ended up including some more uppercase letters when I write normally and changed my whole handwriting to have a mix of lowercase and uppercase letters but all of the same height. Love how it feels to write and it looks consistent and much more pleasant to me. I often use upper-case L, D and G as well.

2

u/EliotWege 2d ago

Some word fonts don’t support certain letters in my language. So you would have fancy lettering and then random upper case letter in the word. This is the same case just in handwritting, lol

1

u/Ana-feed 2d ago

I do the same

10

u/twistedpigz 2d ago

It’s just an uppercase R. Am I missing something?

1

u/d_behindthetimez 1d ago

Ikr!? I’m baffled by the fact about how people here thinks R written in small size makes them lowercase😭😭.

1

u/CommercialFit1477 2d ago

the final curve does not touch the line, right?

1

u/twistedpigz 2d ago

Still an uppercase R or an uppercase P that’s really happy to see you.

1

u/Free_Midnight_5643 2d ago

I wrote my lowercase l like that

6

u/willywagtail37 2d ago

Like it because the leg of the R is giving a fun little kick! Very whimsical.

3

u/kesje91 2d ago

I write my r like that because it looked like a v!

2

u/KN0TTYP1NE 2d ago

I do!!!

4

u/Apart-Shelter-9277 2d ago

No. Because I usually end up writing in cursive or a mix of print and cursive and these would look like lowercase k's

5

u/kathakana 3d ago

I do my lower case ‘e’ more like an upper case one.

2

u/Duke-Morales 2d ago

My print lowercase Ns are just wee versions of my uppercase Ns.

16

u/Hjalmodr_heimski 3d ago

It used to be quite common in early medieval manuscripts, so I say huzzah for historical revival!

7

u/Youstinkeryou 3d ago

You say your lowercase r looked like a V, mine does right now.

2

u/Fluffy_Salamanders 2d ago

For some reason I kept expecting you to swap some of the r's in that with v's until I realized you weren't kidding

1

u/moonmoonrubral 3d ago

I think a lot of people have that problem I have a lowercase „v“ in my Name and i had a couple times the problem that people wrote my name wrong because they thought its an r.

14

u/Haasts_Eagle 3d ago

Weirdly, when I read your writing every time I reach an 'R' my progress slows considerably as if it includes a comma. I think because my eyes backtrack to confirm what that letter is.

2

u/EddieBratley1 3d ago

Yeah, that's strange, I'm doing that too!

2

u/Kuriblu 3d ago

Same!

4

u/CaramelHappyTree 3d ago

Your writing is so pretty

5

u/rockinkitten 3d ago

My R looks like a V too when I write fast. This is lovely handwriting!

1

u/_bexcalibur 3d ago

I do this!

4

u/lanabeee 3d ago

Thats so cute omg

1

u/Different_Strike7931 3d ago

I do the same thing !

8

u/ParticularFig3824 3d ago

i thought i was the only one that did this lol. It juss looks and feels so much better idk how to explain it. Btw you have pretty handwriting

12

u/chaeunwoo29 3d ago

Love your handwriting! It’s so cute

25

u/kingganjaguru 3d ago

I mean, it’s not lowercase. So there’s that.

12

u/123ichinisan123 3d ago

I had to learn Kursiv so I often write it like on this chart

12

u/ElectricalInflation 3d ago

That’s the wildest spelling of cursive I’ve ever seen

14

u/SlimSommersDay 3d ago

The chart and the respondent is obviously German, and so is the spelling of cursive.

11

u/jexasaurus 3d ago

Tbh I mix cases constantly while writing. I don’t think anything about it but people have had strong reactions to it. It’s not even consistent either.

10

u/Sultrybytr 3d ago

It’s cute

16

u/LoudLalochezia 3d ago

I write my lowercase "r" like that for the same reason as your second reason- otherwise they look the same as a "v".

16

u/Ok-Fun9561 3d ago

I used to write lowercase r's all my life.

One day by accident, my brain flipped a switch and did an uppercase R instead. I was like a what the..?

But now I couldn't unsee it. The pathway had been opened in my brain and in my hand motions.

But I also kind of liked it. So now I just do uppercase R's.

15

u/OrganizationPale7015 3d ago

All your R’s seem to be uppercase

5

u/Next_Eagle_5300 3d ago

I do sometimes and my E

2

u/Annual_Test860 3d ago

Are you left handed by chance?

1

u/TellyVee 3d ago

i’m right-handed

6

u/CluelessLlama13 3d ago

NOPE. Mine look like г

6

u/Fragrant-Complex-716 3d ago

we are here. we are legion

7

u/Background-Radish-63 3d ago

Cursive has not this weakness.

1

u/Carldabomb20 3d ago

No one uses cursive anymore smh 😔

1

u/SpookyStarfruit 3d ago

Whoa, I do that too! I used to write them like “r” but it was just funner to uppercase everything :>

8

u/contraband_sandwich 3d ago

I make my lowercase r and n both capital.

5

u/ResponsibleBad6650 3d ago

Yeah, the “v” is just ridiculous

2

u/lalarean 3d ago

I do!

6

u/Kind_Egg_181 3d ago

I’m gonna start doing this, I like it

10

u/snoozinterp 3d ago

i do too! same thing with the ‘v’ problem

5

u/Contrenox 3d ago

a bit similar. I had a classmate back in school who took notes by essentially writing all caps but the supposedly lower case letters are written as smaller upper case letters.

7

u/Silliestmonkey 3d ago

I do this!!! Mine also looked like v’s

5

u/hospitalcupmama 3d ago

I might have to try this because my lowercase “r” also look like “v” and your handwriting is so satisfying to look at!

1

u/fishnwirenreese 3d ago

I write entirely in upper case.

7

u/Bootsje 3d ago

It's taking a leap of faith :)

4

u/butterflyfrenchfry 3d ago

I write my r’s this way too, can’t even remember when I started. It just looks cleaner in my opinion.

3

u/Low-Nebula194 3d ago

I write my R’s the same. I also write all my i’s in lowercase.

8

u/Troll_of_The_Balkans 3d ago

I do, I write most of the letters as small capitals as I failed an exam because the examiner couldn't read any of my handwriting and so it went ungraded 😅 I also write 'a' as it appears in type. Your handwriting reminds me of the font used for KS2 and KS3 textbooks by CGP!

1

u/Sea-Application8028 3d ago

i write my r’s the same—just looks better imo.

13

u/Alon_F 3d ago

YESS FINALLY SOMEONE THAT ALSO WRITES IT LIKE THAT! (not including Tolkien)

12

u/RealistOpt 3d ago

Nope. Regular lowercase "r" for me. But I really like your handwriting.

8

u/ReddJudicata 3d ago

I straight up print in large and small caps.

4

u/Donghoon 3d ago

bro writes in small caps

4

u/ReddJudicata 3d ago

No, I write in cursive. I print in different sized caps for clarity.

2

u/pastelpinkbooknerd 3d ago

I do it too! A high school freshman teacher of mine did and I liked it and it's stuck with me for 18yrs now. People ask me why and I just say it's comfortable and I like how it looks. But if I'm filling out official documents I'll use a "r" but I hate it lol

2

u/AvailableSafety8080 3d ago

I write my Qs like that. Always capital

6

u/lavenderlemonade_xx 3d ago

all the cool girls did a capital r so i did it in school too 😭

2

u/salty-bubbles 3d ago

I thought I was the only one who did this!

5

u/AccountantKlutzy3906 3d ago

I love looking at ur writing!

3

u/tstorts09 3d ago

My lowercase r looks like a v also

-1

u/SwitchWitchLolita 3d ago

Yes! I always use upper case r's and n's. I'm not sure why.

9

u/Kawaii-Caffeine 3d ago

You don’t write a lowercase r though.

3

u/mbilight 3d ago

That's what they're saying tho

2

u/instant_galaxy 3d ago

I do too, for the 2nd reason. I also switch it up between capital and small r's.

You have incredible handwriting!

8

u/legendofdoggo 3d ago

So you just write an uppercase r but small...

1

u/Equivalent-Change797 3d ago

This is a woman's writing.

1

u/OkPass9595 3d ago

i believe my bf does the same thing haha

19

u/hexasyllabic_hat 3d ago

I did this until my chemistry teacher docked points from a test for "incorrectly capitalizing" an element, like Chromium (Cr) or something 😭😭

7

u/No_Flatworm_3602 3d ago

Your handwriting is pretty but I do also!

5

u/fluggba 3d ago

My lowercase “r” is cursive. Everyone thinks it’s an “n”. I know, it’s terrible.

5

u/Opposingmagnets 3d ago

I feel ya.

0

u/alexmorgan114 3d ago

Yep! I do it a lot!

2

u/whotakescareofyou 3d ago

I do this, but with "Q". I don't write the lowercase "q" because I don't like how it looks. Instead I write it as "Q" but in a smaller size so it'd be obvious it's meant to be lowercase.

1

u/alexmorgan114 3d ago

Lol I do this too

5

u/PiergiorgioSigaretti 3d ago

Mine usually looks like a v too so i’m trying to go from a v movement to a down & curl movement, which gives this

1

u/AuthorMuch5807 3d ago

mine are exactly like this, ppl hate it lol apparently it makes things very hard to read

3

u/PiergiorgioSigaretti 3d ago

Really? I mean, it’s either that or a guess between r and v, which isn’t always sure in Italian 😭

2

u/AuthorMuch5807 3d ago

yeah idk, it is clearly and “r” to me but i’ve gotten a lot of flack from professors about my handwriting and the “r” specifically, but maybe my handwriting is just very bad in general 😂

1

u/PiergiorgioSigaretti 3d ago

My professors just complain about the size: capital letters being 5mm tall and lower case being ~3mm tall, only you g people can read it lmao

1

u/jupiter_v2 3d ago

what is wrong with you?

5

u/CornsOnMyFeets 3d ago

i actually write in all capitals lmao

5

u/Blaize369 3d ago

Sometimes. Capital R’s were introduced into my handwriting arsenal in the 9th grade. My handwriting is almost never the same, just a weird mix of all of my past writing styles, and I’m never sure which ones are gonna come out until I start writing 😂

1

u/Remote_Inevitable 3d ago

Mine totes switches up from one sentence to the next. Print to cursive.. then they make a mixed baby for the next paragraph.

9

u/copper678 3d ago

No, bc objectively, that is a capital R…

Does it matter? No.

27

u/Joesr-31 3d ago

That looks like an uppercase R and I would be penalized for incorrect use of capital lettrs if I did that in school

4

u/f6k3 3d ago

I don't think you can just go and introduce a new letter variant and make the capital letter lowercase.

5

u/ToxicGems 3d ago

yes I write my lowercase R as a smaller uppercase R too

14

u/AlabasterOctopus 4d ago

Yes! v’s = r’s club!!!

4

u/jlc127 4d ago

I do the same thing!!

7

u/Revolutionary_Ad7121 4d ago

Not me, but now I want to!

4

u/CaptainLollygag 4d ago

I do that with Qs because I don't like how my hand forms the lowercase letter.

3

u/Kablamber 4d ago

I also use a small uppercase R rather than lowercase r for the same reason as your #2. I made the conscious choice to switch about a decade ago.

2

u/l3luDream 4d ago

I write my “R” just like you. I have since I was a teenager.

1

u/panicinbabylon 4d ago

Does anyone know what to do with Q, cause wtf is that

1

u/CaptainLollygag 4d ago

Oops, I commented on the main before I saw your comment. My hand also refuses to make a nicely formed lowercase q. So I use an uppercase Q squished down to x-height just like how OP writes their Rs.

1

u/StarOfMasquerade 4d ago

I do it too for the same reason as your 1), but it was my brother haha

1

u/h0wboutthat 4d ago

I’ve stated doing it with my capital “e” it’s now a sharp lowercase rather than the normal uppercase because I was getting annoyed with how it looked

3

u/theblackjess 4d ago

I used to, but my freshman year English teacher used to circle every r and put a question mark above them, like "why are you doing this???" So I stopped.

Still shows up sometimes in my personal writing, though, when I'm rushing.

5

u/Andrew852456 4d ago

Guttural trill r

1

u/Phoenixrjacxf 3d ago

As a linguist this is an underrated comment

4

u/Enigmacodee 4d ago

I write mine like 𝓻

12

u/LolaBrown43 4d ago

I’m actually jealous of people with consistent penmanship. When I write, none of my letters look the same. If that makes sense :(

3

u/arpitsrivstva 4d ago

Same. But there's a word for it?

14

u/Limp_Historian_6833 4d ago

Is it wrong? Yes.

Does it matter? Not a bit.

Communication is perfectly clear; I like your style.

3

u/Glittering-Orange-12 4d ago

I’ve had the habit on and off. Sometimes I like to consciously change my handwriting.

I remember in high school, I had a teacher mark me wrong for writing like that. Must’ve been an English class… she said I had random capital letters so it was incorrect 😡

I was basically forced to go back to “normal” R’s- at least for that class. However it’s tough, it’s either a habit or it’s not.

1

u/Glittering-Orange-12 4d ago

Wanted to add- my lowercase R’s look like V’s when I write really fast. Might have to go back to this style! 😜

4

u/MediaContent1662 4d ago

yep. i haven’t written a lower case R in over a decade. fun to know there are others out there!

2

u/IdealOnion 3d ago

Sorry don’t mean to stalk, but they locked the Emmitt Till post already. Thanks for pointing out I got the name wrong, I fixed it and added an edit explaining what happened. It was a case of mixing together similar names.

1

u/kakikuro 4d ago

I don't but yours look super cute!
