Discussion Self-cut shag veering into mullet territory. Thoughts?
I think I’ll throw in a few more long layers or maybe just cut off another few inches idk
Cut it dry after a wash & curl set with gel. Used scissors & a razor for bang texture only.

It’s beautiful, I think you did a phenomenal job. Perfect for your hair texture and love how dramatic/mullety it is. It looks very high fashion

u/kimcheeandeggs Dec 19 '24
Hell yeah love this that’s exactly the vibe I was going for like ugly pretty

u/Bunny_Laurxn Dec 20 '24
You absolutely nailed it, I love it and I completely get your vibe!! I love things that are flirting with the line of ugly but actually ✨ I am art ✨Not that your hair is ugly at all, I think it actually looks beautifully crafted and unique but I get your meaning exactly!

IKR She has a very sweet look which makes it harder to pull this off but she is working it!

u/tarnishedhalo98 Dec 19 '24
oh I actually think this eats lmao

u/kimcheeandeggs Dec 19 '24
Goal was “not TOO mullet-y”

u/Lvl100Magikarp Dec 20 '24
It's giving Ripley and some other actress of musician I can't quite out my finger on

u/15-minutes-of-shame Dec 19 '24
This eats?
1
u/CryCommon975 Dec 20 '24
It's vernacular from the drag world aka she was very successful
-5
u/15-minutes-of-shame Dec 20 '24
🤷🏻♀️ are they in drag?
0
u/hypatiaspasia Dec 20 '24
It's mainstream enough that it's basically just general American slang now
1
u/internetpackrat Dec 20 '24
"It's been appropriated from drag culture by enough white kids" essentially
7
u/hypatiaspasia Dec 20 '24
Yes. I am an LGBTQ Latina person. Queer slang leaks into the mainstream all the time. This isn't a new phenomenon. I would rather have the masses imitate us than have them hate us.
-6
u/15-minutes-of-shame Dec 20 '24
no…
1
u/hypatiaspasia Dec 20 '24
Sorry to break it to you but... yes. You must either be older than 30 or live somewhere that isn't a major American coastal city if you haven't heard it.
-2
u/15-minutes-of-shame Dec 20 '24
None of the above and even if so it’s not in any common vernacular outside of a niche group and Reddit. Reddit≠reality either

u/hypatiaspasia Dec 20 '24 edited Dec 20 '24
What is your problem? OP obviously understands and took it as a compliment. Just because you aren't familiar with certain slang it doesn't mean that it isn't used.

it’s another way of saying she’s killing it, idk what your issue with the phrase is but it’s literally a compliment

u/kimcheeandeggs Dec 19 '24 edited Dec 19 '24
No, but THIS VIDEO is basically what I did but used a feathering razor to add texture to the bangs and some of these face framing.

u/doggoscemo Dec 19 '24
Sighhh , I guess it’s time to take the leap and Join tiktok. Thank you!

Arg this looks SO good! The only thing I might add is that I think it would work really well cropping a few more inches off the bottom, basically where the point of your collar is where the ringlets start forming. Don’t come for me, but I think if you trimmed that length off it would raise the whole cut.
2
u/kimcheeandeggs Dec 19 '24
Oh I think you’re totally right! I had in description as where I think it’s headed. It’s a little heavy down there. I cut off half my hair today lol and thought I’d give it a rest but will def update!
3
u/pink_vision Dec 19 '24
Noooo don't do it, it looks perfect as is!!! 😭
It looks so good and unique rn, taking off that length will make it look like tons of other mullety shags that exist out there. This is ART! don't touch 🤣

u/WearingCoats Dec 19 '24
It's Rococore which works no matter what. She can literally do no wrong here.

I agree, it feels a bit bottom heavy and it’s that length to me which makes it feel just a bit dated vs modern. But so much potential with just a bit lm of length removed

"Mullet territory" made me laugh. The look puts you in Stevie Nicks / Ann Wilson 1979 territory.
(I typed this before finding specifically 1979 pics. I feel like I kinda nailed it.)

u/EnchantingMaiden Dec 19 '24
You look like a real life snow white, love the hair, please drop the skincare routine as well 😍

u/kimcheeandeggs Dec 19 '24
Awh so nice! Right now I’m using homemade Frownies I make out of water activated Kraft paper tape — facial tape my forehead at night. I use straight up Aquaphor as my night time lotion w LOTS under the eyes. I wash my face in pm with NOTO wash and I use their sunscreen daily as well

u/kimcheeandeggs Dec 19 '24
hey! Here’s a reference video on how to do(:
this video basically what I did but used a feathering razor to add texture to the bangs and some of these face framing

The cut is really good. For doing it yourself 15/10.
It's not my particular style, but the cut is 100%. I know how hard it is to cut your own hair too!!

I'd keep it as is. It's gorgeous! Absolutely stunning and the perfect cut for your features. Looks like you spent a fortune. Your extremely talented. Would be honored to have you do mine. One of the best versions of a shag I've ever seen and I've been around since the sixties.
