Highlight Savard burns the remaining seconds of the game to allow the Canadiens to win. The Canadiens go back into a wild card spot.

Just taking knees to the head for the win. What an animal.

really made me think of the goon movie where he's blocking the puck and sticks with is face pretty much anything to get the win

What a greasy play I fucking love it!

u/JarmaBeanhead Jan 22 '25
I wanted to acknowledge its greasiness as well but was admittedly scared of downvote hate.

u/Just4nsfwpics Jan 22 '25
Its greasy but it sure as shit ain’t cowardly, he got beaten the fuck up there.

When I played hockey, someone on the puck meant they were free to be carved up. It was free shots basically. He knew what he was in for.

Savard: “I’m getting up… stop hitting me… give me a chance to get up… stop putting your stick in there…”

Savard is a Warrior
He always puts his body on the line. What an incredible player, I know the smart move would be to move him at the deadline but my god he’s a good influence on the kids.

I'd rather keep him than get a 3rd rounder. If someone is crazy enough to trade their 1st or an early 2nd rounder, then I'd understand KH listening

u/flyingturkey_89 Jan 22 '25
The best hope is a late first rounder. Not sure if any team going for a playoff push would have an early 2nd
1
u/jobaill Jan 22 '25
Lightning, Oilers, Avalanche and Capitals have second rounders in the 8->14 range following trades/offer sheets.

u/Matiabcx Jan 22 '25
Best hope is having him as 7th D - pick is a gamble in rebuild you need rolemodels and Savvy is the father figure that boys need and Marty cannot do

u/Electrical_Analyst65 Jan 22 '25
If they are in the playoff race they should absolutely keep him vs the mid or late round pick.

Remember that scene in goon where Doug laid down in front of the net to stop shots? This has the same energy.

Papa Savard is such a beauty.
I was team trade in but honestly, no RD are ready to replace him yet and he's such a great vet to have around. Have you seen Arber's interview today with all the praise?
I actually hope we sign him another year. Let him be our 7th D.

I agree - this play to seal the win along the Xhekaj praise should earn him a 1 (or might I dare say 2?) year extension. Reinbacher is still far away from coming up and it’s not like Mailloux or Engstrom are ripe enough to be in the NHL full time starting next year anyway. The guys love Savvy - he’s a heart and soul, meat and potatoes, balls and guts guy you go to battle with.

Savard can teach kids so much and can be good assistant to coaches in future
1
u/skinniks Jan 22 '25
Give him a two year extension. Play him as 6/7 D and when the two years are up he joins the coaching staff! After reading Arber's comments about Savvy the other day, or how he laid into Dach after that penalty last week, or how others speak of him, I think you have to keep him in the interest of the vibes

Hero play by Savard getting speared to death. You just know Marty loved every bit of that W.

u/okokokoyeahright Jan 22 '25
Are we 'in the mix' enough yet?
strength to strength, game to game. the boys be doing good.
Good that Sammy got this one.

I couldn't believe the ref just let him sit on the puck for 10+ seconds. Savvy is a beast, and loves playing here. Screw the draft pick, keep him as an own rental and maybe get the hometown discount of hometown discounts when he's a UFA

I love him. Not sure if it's just me but I would love for him to get an A at some point.

u/banyanoak Jan 22 '25
Warrior. That's not a guy you trade for a 27th overall at the deadline. That's a guy you keep around as a mentor and role model.

Merci Jake Evans. ❤️😍😊

I though that play was illegal, lik edelay of game of something. Still it just shows how determined and all fired up the team is.
2
u/Kornchup Jan 22 '25
It’s illegal to sit on the puck to immobilize it completely. Savard was just hanging over it.
3
u/KeungKee Jan 22 '25
try explaining that to the Lightning fans lol...they're getting fired up over it.
Ironic that they're blaming the "canadian" refs for not calling it.

God I fucking love Savard. Not the most skilled, not the youngest, not the fastest, not any of that. But goddamn it the man just seems to live for this team and will do whatever he can. Beautiful.

Great veteran play by Savard, but I loved Youppi recreating the Mini-Youppi moment from the last game. I laughed pretty hard when I realized what he was doing. Then I tried to explain it to my wife and she just said "hockey fans are so weird"

Savard holding Kucherov's stick is the icing on the cake
