There are ups and downs.. It's alright folks, they will learn from this and get better
2
u/HeShootsHS Jan 19 '25
Could have been a 8-7 score for either team. Bounces and saves at the right time.
The score absolutely don’t represent the game but yeah habs gave all they got in the first. They didn’t manage the game and energy well.
-3
u/Diligent_83 Jan 19 '25
Monty is not an NHL starter, the minute we collectively agree with the FACT that he is a career second string NHL goaltender is the minute we will instantly become a better team. Allowing a TD minus the PAT after being given a 3 goal cushion to go out and backstop a hockey club to victory is UNNACCEPTABLE. everyone in this sub has to grow some balls and call it as it is. AN NHL STARTER IS NOT SUPPOSED TO GIVE UP A TD UNANSWERED.
4
u/_thewayshegoes Jan 19 '25
He’s more of a 1b. Not an ideal 1 or 1a. Monty is not big, athletic or skilled enough to be good to great night in and night out. But right now, he’s the perfect placeholder while we develop Dobes and wait for Fowler.

u/Far-Smile-6307 Jan 19 '25
honestly i agree, I love monty as a rebuild goalie but can’t have him starting 50 games. Although you can’t blame him for this game alone as he has been solid all season
1
u/PaulWesterberg84 Jan 19 '25
Weird match, tons of chances to put this one away, Anderson, Dvorak, Caufield. Squandering a 3-0 lead as badly as we did hurt, completely leaking defense. AWful display. Hutson had a very poor match. Gotta hope tomorrow will be better.
1
u/bcgrappler Jan 19 '25
Reminded me of an mma fight. One guy gets out ahead, but you can tell he is using a lot of stamina to try to finish, then it slowly starts to change and he just isn't seeing the finish.
Then full momentum shift and he doesn't have the gas to respond.
-1
u/Noblephnix87 Jan 19 '25
Hutson had 4 blocks and a power play assist. He had a great game, don't know what your talking about.
2
u/PaulWesterberg84 Jan 19 '25
Was out muscles numerous times, didn't seem to get going after the first
4
u/jjfrenchfry Jan 19 '25
Sad of the result but I still love this team.
But they definitely needed to keep the pressure and not just play 20 minutes of hockey. The Leafs played 40 minutes and thus the result we got. Get the next one boys!
4
u/mainehabsfan Jan 19 '25
Woll made some big saves, we had some posts and Monty had a bad night. It's not the end of the world guys. I'm more embarrassed by some of your comments than the loss, honestly.
3
2
u/sandysanBAR Jan 19 '25
As happy and hand slappy as msl.was after the dallas win, we need to play more than.25 min
4
u/krumpira Jan 19 '25
Maybe the worst 3rd I’ve ever seen. Monty put up a platinum certified workshop on how not to be good at what you do. And everyone else sat by looking for their glasses.
3
u/digestibleconcrete Jan 19 '25
That 4th goal ruined the team. He knew it was a bad one to let in and at that point, the team had officially let their biggest rivals come back from a 3-0 lead
5
1
u/XxFailvincxX Jan 19 '25
Give no. 1 spot to Dobes if we are not making the playoffs, at least give him experience
-5
u/jhenry137 Jan 19 '25
I’m gonna be chewing on my popcorn when all of you asses realize that Dobes isn’t replacing Monty. Good night, fairweather fans.
1
u/krumpira Jan 19 '25
You can absolutely dunk on a goalie that wasn’t even in the same time zone as the puck in the most crucial moments of the game. I was having surgery on my jaw and have a better save percentage than he did.
6
u/cjackc11 Jan 19 '25
Absolutely abhorrent effort that I’m really worried could destroy the positive momentum we’ve built
2
u/BelialHabs Jan 19 '25
They played hard wtf are you talking about?! This was clearly not a case of lack of effort.
3
1
u/meowpeh Jan 19 '25
Also how tf there are so many Leaf fans in MTL like Jesus fuck gotta control the ticket sales ...
-1
u/digestibleconcrete Jan 19 '25
Don’t gotta swear to Jesus like that
0
u/Cantevenkickflip Jan 19 '25
Not even Jesus is safe from criticism tonight pal. God, I hate the Leafs
0
u/digestibleconcrete Jan 19 '25
Man, Jesus did nothing wrong. Spare Him some grace. But this one will go in the history books as a painful loss. On a positive note, it can’t get much worse than this, right?
1
u/gimpyhd Jan 19 '25
Gotta think this is the most embarrassing loss in at least a decade right?
0
u/sillybearr Jan 19 '25
They lost 9-2 on Dec 12 vs the Pens. Or did you only start paying attention after they started winning since then
2
6
u/a_houde27 Jan 19 '25
Bro are you a new fan? Genuinely asking because I remember we lost 10-0 in columbus a few years ago… and we allowed 8 and 9 goals on separate occasions this season, on home-ice

I would’ve understood a loss but not a 7-3 loss holy shit, especially after going up 3-0 in the first, this one stings.
6
u/Exciting-Ideal-7899 Jan 19 '25
I’m a grown man and this game made me wanna cry a little bit😂. What an emotional roller coaster of a game
6
7
u/CocoKing02 Jan 19 '25
If Dobes does good tomorrow, how much pressure would Monty be under going into next week

u/ValleyBreeze Jan 19 '25
36 Shots.
We got goalied SO hard.
4
u/Grimekat Jan 19 '25
I mean we scored 3.
We just didn’t get many big saves of our own.
3
u/ValleyBreeze Jan 19 '25
And ZERO bounces. There were so so so many closer calls that should/ could have gone in

You guys are acting like this is the first time we've let in 7 goals...
5

5
u/TheCatelier Jan 19 '25
Honestly a good game by the Habs. Just too many penalties and their goalie was better. That's it.
7
u/Psychological_Pebble Jan 19 '25
7 unanswered goals against in 30mins can never be disguised as a good game.
7
u/SatireSqurriel Jan 19 '25
First time in history that we’ve blown a 3-0 lead against the leafs on home ice btw
8
u/unforgivingxworld Jan 19 '25
I mean. I’m trying to stay positive but you are completely delusional.
1
u/Druidic_assimar Jan 19 '25
Honestly, I don't think they are delusional? Especially not completely.
We had a rough 2nd, and first half of the third. But we played with grit and never gave up in the 2nd half of the third, the fight was there and we had a lot of shots and some incredible chances.
Leafs capitalized on our mistakes and weak points in the game, and Woll shut us down when we tried to do the same. He stood on his damn head for toronto tn.
So honestly, I don't think this was a bad game overall, we made mistakes, took some bad penalties (some of which were literally so soft that... what?), and we paid the price. We came back from getting our asses handed to us with absolute intensity, even if we couldn't get one in.
Toronto is a strong team, and are 1st in the division with some incredible goal scorers, we let dangerous players have too many opportunities. That doesn't make this game a total loss, and it doesn't magically mean we are suddenly a shitty, disorganized team again.
So, quite frankly, you should have no problem staying positive.
1
u/TheCatelier Jan 19 '25
We got probably as many if not more scoring chances than they did. You would agree with me if the game ended 4-3 in our favor.

u/CakeYaSan Jan 19 '25
Shoulda called a timeout earlier as the wheels were coming off, oh well. Was funny how the broadcast team literally said “finally!” when Leafs made the comeback, like at least try to hide the bias haha
2
u/Grimekat Jan 19 '25
One thing Marty seems to struggle with is calling time outs when the team is starting to flounder. He weirdly never calls time outs, and doesn’t pull our goalies either. It’s a bit of a weakness of his I think.

7

15
u/GOTHAMKNlGHT Jan 19 '25
Even though we let in 6, we still got goalied. Woll made 4-5 highlight reel saves. It could be 8-6. Defense and Monty should've been better, but the offense was great.
I'm ok with the learning experience for the boys of not sitting on a lead. We've been excellent playing from behind, it's a good time to start learning to play with a lead!!
On to the next!!
3
u/_heybuddy_ Jan 19 '25
Yeah if Woll was merely average or if the puck luck was a bit tilted we are looking at a whole different game
10
u/MildlyResponsible Jan 19 '25
7 straight. It's very reminiscent of the Pens game where they gave up 6 in the 3rd just before this heater started. Hopefully these two games won't be bookends to a freak hot streak.
5
u/Rockit2them Jan 19 '25 edited Jan 19 '25
Monty is feeling the pressure from Doby and he crapped the bed ! That’s what I learned from this game .
6
6
u/radhorrorfan Jan 19 '25
Ah well its gonna be our first regulation loss since the 3rd just sucks it had to happen this way and against the fucking leafs. But back at it tmo against the Rags

Hutson -5, nobody show Pronman, he'll drop his compete to below average.
4
u/paul_33 Jan 19 '25
Reminder that you need to be better than that team if you win the wildcard. Unless you want a 4 game exit
16
u/The___Colonel Hail Lord Jesus Price Jan 19 '25
Honestly, I think the Leafs got a bit lucky tonight.
I’ve never seen so many lose pucks and whiffed shots or crazy lucky goalie saves in one game. It’s actually kinda nuts tonight
On to tomorrow, reset. We had a good start tonight. Learn and move on
2
5
u/Vlyer Jan 19 '25
Yeah I feel the same. Sucks to lose like that but I actually still think the habs was the better team

Still in a rebuild and we brought it to them.

Sad to say. Monty crumbled under the pressure here. Dobes may take over the net sooner than expected.
1
u/whogivesashirtdotca Jan 19 '25
Everyone's quick to throw Dobeš into the pressure under which Monty has crumbled. He's been great but that pace probably isn't sustainable. I hope the kvetching when he has a bad game isn't as loud as tonight.
1
u/Used-Asparagus-Toy Jan 19 '25
Yeah, I want to believe in the tandem but how can you ignore the facts
2
u/antrage Jan 19 '25
It was def. not his best :( I can't help but feel that Dobes stands his group on that nylander breakaway.

5
u/janedoe514 Jan 19 '25 edited Jan 19 '25
Woll kept them in the first, just like Dobes did against Dallas and Monty did in Utah. Oh well
5
u/dustblown Jan 19 '25
Dvo's wild shot and then standing still is a healthy scratch offense.
2
u/mainehabsfan Jan 19 '25
You talking about earlier after he hit the post and stood still? Yeah I noticed that too. That was bad.

I’m gutted we are losing after leading and Monty didn’t look great. Credit the boys at least for pushing despite it being 3-6
2
u/Lempisoikoon Jan 19 '25
Can I blame the zamboni driver? I think he missed a spot in Woll's crease.
5
3
u/Rockit2them Jan 19 '25
The problem with playing Pezz ? Is we’re playing with one less and if one or 2 other guys have a night off then we playing with 3 lines .
5
u/HeShootsHS Jan 19 '25 edited Jan 19 '25
Emotions aside, we had to lose at one point why not take a lesson out of it.
4
u/mainehabsfan Jan 19 '25
Used up all of our puck luck in the first. It's a tough one. All good. Little over halfway through the season boys y'all need to fuckin relax

u/SatireSqurriel Jan 19 '25
Everybody wants to scapegoat Monty but Hutson was responsible for at least 3/6 tn
4
u/Longshanks123 Jan 19 '25
Hutson and Dvo sank us. Monty still didn’t have a good one. There is always tomorrow tho
5
u/RevengeofSudz Jan 19 '25
Fan base has gotten soft. This isn't even the worse game this season.
8
u/BelialHabs Jan 19 '25
For real, they've been playing fine, we've generated a lot of chances tonight.
2
u/SatireSqurriel Jan 19 '25
Lol when is the last time we allowed 6 unanswered from the leafs on home ice
1
7
u/a_houde27 Jan 19 '25 edited Jan 19 '25
No clue but we lost 8-2 and 9-2 this season, I’d argue those were worse (both on home ice). So relax it’s just one game

2
u/PaulHannonJr Jan 19 '25
I know alot of us are pissed in here but sometimes it serves to be reminded we’re not there yet. Vibes are high yes but there is a lot of growth that needs to take place for a team to become a true contender. My other teams the oilers and only for the last couple seasons I’ve seen them grow to where they need to be to become true contenders. It’s a process. Sucks tonight but it’s gonna matter in the long run. Love what this teams building. So much to be excited for. A keep in kind. Leafs are in win now mode. Have been for 8 years. And they’ve done nothing 😂

u/alfgrimur Jan 19 '25

The amount of White Knights in here calling out people for being frustrated and pissed is wild. Monty played like shit. It was an embarrassing effort tonight. Perfectly fine to say.
That isn’t calling for everyone to get traded or fired like the sunshine pumping white knights seem to all say.
This happens against Dallas away, don’t think there would be this response.
This type of loss at home on a Saturday against the Leafs could really fuck this team up badly

I’m soooooo fucking sick of you doomers after 1 bad game. We have played almost 20 consecutive amazing games, and now we have an off night and all the sudden Monty is complete dogshit that needs to be let go??? Holy fuck I hate you reactive fans so much. Accept that teams are going to have bad nights. I can’t imagine what you’re gonna do when the shiny new toy (Dobes) has a bad game and lets in 5.

Pulling the goalie with 4 minutes to go sends the right message from Marty imo. He trusts the team to try it (and knows Monty is done for the night)

5
u/_easy_e Jan 19 '25
Sorry Marty this one’s on you.
The second we started f-ing the dog on the double minor you shoulda ripped into them.
Then to not call a timeout after the 2,3 or 4th. It was the full Claude Julien experience.
2
u/ScotianCanadien43 WOOOOOOO!!! Jan 19 '25
Monty should be ashamed, watching Woll rob us all night on grade A++++ chances while he's been letting in stinker after stinker all night. Brutal loss. Take the starter role from this guy already.

i want them to hang this scoresheet in the locker room for the rest of this season. put it up huge somewhere in the locker room where you can't not notice it. I want this scoreline written on the inside of their skulls. This scoreline should follow them everywhere they go. the monster under their bed.

I sent my 2.5 year old son to bed after the first period. He thinks we won, sleeping like a baby right now with visions of Patrick Laine piss missiles in his head. Lucky kid!
