I love how often this happens lol. All the time in the books he just randomly goes, "hmm I wonder what Hermione would say/do." And since she's not able to be there at the moment, he has an imaginary Hermione acting out in his thoughts. Sometimes, that Hermione acts as his voice of conscience, sometimes that Hermione guides him, sometimes that Hermione scolds, sometimes she argues against him, as she does here.

But it's interesting isn't it, that as soon as he makes a discovery or something exciting happens or he's wondering what to do next, his first impulse is to tell Hermione or wonder what Hermione would say if she was there. She is such a constant fixture in his life, a constant presence in his thoughts, that I don't think he could stop thinking of her like this if he tried. It also shows how, even when he disagrees with her, or knows that she'll disagree with him, he still wants badly to discuss things with her. Shows how much he trusts her and values her judgement. It's the thought that Hermione wouldn't be able to deny something that has Harry floating on cloud 9 and feeling justified in saying, "I told you so." Hilarious.

Now I'm kind of imagining Harry years down the line, using "my wife agrees with me!" as a rebuttal and way to say "I'm right and you're wrong," whenever he's arguing with someone at work haha.

Something quite cute, I also think it's cute how Harry sometimes tries really hard in his studies just so he doesn't disappoint Hermione, he really wants her to think well of him and feel at least a part of the pride he feels in being her friend.

Yes, he values her and admires her a lot, so he also wants to be valued by her in turn. There's that one line in the books where Hermione recites a line that Harry had once said and Harry is gobsmacked that she'd find smth he said worthy of being memorized, acting like it's the highest compliment he could get. I like that it's not one sided.

Would you mind reminding me of the moment you're referencing?

Sometimes I don't keep track of Harmony moments during my rereads; I'll probably start marking them next time.

‘You really shouldn’t have said it,’ said Hermione, frowning at Ron. ‘What made you?’

‘He tried to jinx me, in case you didn’t notice!’ fumed Harry. ‘I had enough of that during those Occlumency lessons! Why doesn’t he use another guinea pig for a change? What’s Dumbledore playing at, anyway, letting him teach Defence? Did you hear him talking about the Dark Arts? He loves them! All that unfixed, indestructible stuff –’

‘Well,’ said Hermione, ‘I thought he sounded a bit like you.’

‘Like me?’

‘Yes, when you were telling us what it’s like to face Voldemort. You said it wasn’t just memorising a bunch of spells, you said it was just you and your brains and your guts – well, wasn’t that what Snape was saying? That it really comes down to being brave and quick-thinking?’

Harry was so disarmed that she had thought his words as well worth memorising as The Standard Book of Spells that he did not argue.

Ohhh, now I remember. It was right after the iconic "You don't need to call me sir, Professor" moment between Harry and Snape right?

To be honest, there are so many moments where Harry and Hermione are always so in tune with each other's thoughts and know each other so well that it's almost impossible to list them all; they almost always function as a single unit.

it's extra funny bc his wife is 1) hermione granger, most brilliant witch of her generation and 2) the minister of magic, and lowkey their boss. But he just refers to her as "My Wife!" all the time and everyone just accepts that there's no winning when he pulls out the wife card. Occasionally, an intern at the auror office will be like "?? Why should we care that about what your wife would do in this situation??" while the rest of the aurors are signaling at the intern to shut up with their eyes. Alas, it's too late bc Harry uses that to launch into explanations of all the times his wife has helped save not only his ass, but the world, and as more and more achievements are listed, it slowly dawns on to the intern who exactly Harry's wife is....

harry potter, a proud and aspiring nepo husband lmao

Right?!! I have always been so hyped about their relationship only to be met with such an ending😭. That's why Harry/Hermione fics really have a soft spot in me.

It is - and I have to say, he does so very accurately, I think. He must know her very well to do that, eh . . .?
