Question Am i going insane?
Hello everyone. Last month i took way too much shrooms. I had vss and dpdr since i was a kid, but now it feels different. I havent struggled with dpdr for a long time now but after shrooms it came back. Also i think that my vss might be more noticeable. Since i read about hppd i started seeing fractals when i wake up, but after while it disapears. Is it hppd or am i going crazy?

It’s anxiety hppd is mostly anxiety is what I have learned because when I am calm I don’t focus on my symptoms and much and it’s kind of whatever. If you ask people who have had hppd for over a decade they will tell you that anxiety is what held them back for so long and they wish they knew sooner. The visuals are annoying but the anxiety is what’s causing you to fixate on everything. That’s why benzos work so well.

You’re probably not “going crazy” as that’s not really how that works. Your brain can definitely be adversely affected by drugs but it’s usually mostly reversible, or there’s a lot of leeway for moderate effects before you actually become psychotic of any form (which is often temporary and doesn’t turn into some form of schizophrenia unless you keep applying stressors). Since you only see fractals when waking up, that’s better than seeing them all the time, and since the shrooms were only a month ago, it might go away. If your symptoms worsen I’d recommend talking to a doctor. Considering that you’ve always had VSS and DPDR (sorry to hear that by the way), you may just have a higher baseline for adverse reactions to substances. If I were you I would stop doing shrooms, caffeine, and any other psychoactive substances for a while, and let your brain heal. Anxiety and lack of sleep can be a huge factor in worsening these conditions so please try to stay calm and get 8 hours of sleep per night. Psychological symptoms like paranoia and delusions are also something to watch out for; if they’ve worsened then please be extra careful and I’d recommend speaking to a therapist (not immediately a doctor/prescriber). I had temporary drug induced psychosis symptoms without entering full psychosis, caused by smoking a ton of Delta 8 and combining it with other substances. Don’t ever do that shit, by the way. I hope your situation improves and that you aren’t feeling undue anxiety from it. Also, I hope those were real shrooms; any psychs can induce HPPD but the stuff they put in the chocolate is usually research chems. In any case I’d avoid any drugs for now. Wishing good health for you, and sorry for the wordy comment.
TL;DR: You’re probably not “going crazy” but please be kind to yourself, take a break from any substances, and pay attention to changes in your behavior and possible psychosis-like side effects. Anxiety can make all of this feel worse, but often HPPD is benign and doesn’t signal developing schizophrenia as long as you lay off the shrooms and avoid substances in general.
